But I gotta ask, what happened to lead to The Video Game Years being shut down? I mean, I'm an old school gaming guy and a bit of a historian, so I like learning about gaming history. But people have been clamoring for a return of the series for a look into the 1990s. Although, considering that it's been a full decade, it's unlikely the series will return.

Would argue there's never been any actual excitement for the Amico outside a very narrow group of retro gamers who were yearning for a reboot of the #3 most popular 2nd generation console. The excitement might be ruined for some them at this point and it probably should be. Outside of that group nobody knows what this is.

I think folks like us who are neck deep in this kind of stuff often forget we are all in a very tiny bubble of people. People outside that bubble have never heard of Tommy Tallarico or the Amico or Intellivision for that matter. Just look at the sales of those "physical" games. About 10,000 sold fairly quickly before it petered out and considering you had to buy packs of 4, we are talking about a group of people in the literal thousands who even give a shit about this. I really don't think people quite understand how bad this thing is going to bomb when it comes out. It's all just a grand illusion. A few thousand diehards, a washed up pseudo-celebrity playing CEO and some desperate youtubers who may or may not have taken a cheque or two from said washed up pseudo-celebrity.

The big thing against Tommy is his sleazy, used car salesman language. "Maybe we have more stored info on the RFID cards". Why not just say if it does? It's just like his "Wouldn't that be something". He wants the fanboys to repeat it as "we have more encrypted info on the RFID card" and then when that turns out to be false, Tommy will claim "I never said for sure we did. You just assumed that." He did this before with "physical media". When people asked if there was a cart slot, he never said "No". What he did say was stuff like "Maybe we have a way to deliver the game on an SD card or something". His shills then said "Tommy confirmed they can be installed offline with an SD card" and Tommy would never correct that misstatement. Tommy continued to play coy on what was in the box until they went up for sale. Now that we know for sure there's no SD card or physical media in the box, he's falling back on the "I never said there were carts in the box. Ha ha ha! Learn to read better". Again, not the actions of a CEO. They're the actions of a Scumbag Seller of the Week.

@@ccricers And like most narcissists, Tommy believes if he just talks to someone long enough, he can convince them on anything. Saying a lot of things is one thing. Of course, that would only cause such a reaction because he finally took a direct action instead of taking the longest way around while avoiding the topic.

While all of those items on the list are valid, the list blows it by ignoring the #1 thing that has ruined excitement for the Amico. TT. No, I'm not talking about Ted Turner, Tanya Tucker or even Tim Tebow. That'd be our pal, Tommy Tallarico. He has repeatedly dug the hole deeper everytime he's spoken, and, he has done more to wreck the Amico than a full spread of photon torpedoes ever could. When the Amico flops - and I'm being generous at this point in even assuming it comes out - he'll be the #1 reason. With that said, after 3 delays, when does this "amazing console" ever come out? Smarch 13th at 13:00 am? The 12th of Never in the year 2525? Stardate 95976? Moments before the Heat Death of the Universe? Anyway, yeah. More than 10 reasons to lose excitement over the You Can't Do That On Intellivision. But #1 should've been Tommy, and #2 should be the eternal delays that will lead to the Amico hitting shelves shortly after Commodore releases the Commodore 64000 and the VIC-2000. (Edited to add after finishing the video): The whole thing about the FCC sounds like BS to me. For some time now, I've believed this is never going to come out. And my guess is now he's setting up the FCC to be the scapegoat when the Amico never comes out. I always thought he'd find a way to blame Pat and Ian, but, now I wonder if he'll just blame the mean ol' FCC. He sure as hell won't blame himself.

Tommy saying "You don't need FCC certification to start manufacturing" is the ultimate in being a technical troll and a dishonest debater. It's like a criminal arguing "It wasn't me pushing the guy off the roof that killed him. It was the sudden stop when he hit the ground". This does tell us that IE still doesn't have FCC certification (because why make that silly argument other than to rationalize not having it by now?) and they that likely failed their last submission (again!). Months ago, Nick Richards had said they were making their final submission and would have certification "within a few weeks". It's been way longer than that. He also let slip they had submitted before and failed "on a few minor issues". So that kind of destroys the massive spinning by the Amico fanboys that is going on at AtariAge. They're trying to rationalize with "Well this is just a paperwork thing. All these parts have been certified before, so it's just a formality for the system as a whole" or even "they can wait until the last minute to keep their trade secrets away from Nintendo and Sony". AHAHHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHA!

The cognitive dissonance is saying Amico doesn’t compete with Nintendo, but also saying they are expecting Nintendo to take notice.
@XanthinZarda3 жыл бұрын
And much more simply: If this thing doesn't certify, it doesn't leave the borders. From my vague understanding, most countries have an agreement with the FCC so that their certification is valid outside the borders. Hand assembly to bypass the certification isn't entirely out of the question, even if it is completely insane and would more likely end with a whistleblowing. Of course, he _could_ forge it, but I can't imagine an act of forgery against the FCC would be a lasting idea. Pointedly though: I think Tommy's starting to get paranoid due to all the government probing; as if investors loading their lawyers with shotguns loaded with pellets wasn't enough, I imagine he'll go on a tirade soon about how you can't trust any of the three letter organizations.

Tommy's narrative this week is that his "transparency" is being used against him, so now he's going to keep quiet. We'll see. He's made that promise before but lasted about three days before going back to his diarrhea-style of posting). 1) One posting a lot is not the same as "transparency". Most of Tommy's posts are "Wouldn't that be something" and 'What's your favorite music/movie/snack food from the 80s". 2) The real questions that people want answered like "How exactly can I transfer games with an NFT?" or "Do I need the card to use the game every time" he refuses to answer directly and whenever someone does ask he claims it's "harassment". 3) If you tell the truth, it can't be "used against you". Tommy gets in trouble because he says stuff that turns out to be false or he contradicts himself. Take the whole "exclusive" thing. Tommy and his fanboys claim the haters (which includes all the press except Nintendolife) are "obsessed" with exclusives. Now they are saying "what's the big deal about ports and exclusives?". They pretend this came out of nowhere when the person who made it "a big deal" was TOMMY. It was one of the big pillars of the Amico. He may pretend it was something he casually mentioned once and then "clarified" what he meant by "ports" and "exclusives". But that's a total lie. He went on dozens of interviews and whenever someone said "why not just get a Switch" Tommy would go a fifteen minute rant about "All our games will be exclusive! You will not be able to get them anywhere else." That and "We're only $180" were the big selling points. Now both of those pillars are gone, so then the original question (why buy this thing?) comes back into play.
@MrTBoneSF3 жыл бұрын
@Lassi Kinnunen 81 You can always tell a bad liar or a conman- they overexplain everything without giving the details you ask for. They also instead of answering your question, they'll just ask another question ("why is that important to you? What about X?") or answer a completely different question than what you asked ("Thanks. I do think I'm the smarted guy you know"). A good example was when CFO Nick Richards was asked "have you passed FCC certification?" he didn't say "no". What he gave instead was a rambling, minutes long spiel about "We've pass this test, and this test- and that's really the toughest test... and we are looking at submitting the last few tests- and those are really simple tests that take no time to pass...and we expect to start manufacturing immediately after certification....". He was hoping people weren't paying attention and dozed off after all his droning on and on because simply saying "no" shows they're way behind schedule.

FCC certs are a binary thing. The system either passes or it doesn't. There's no almost, or just a few. One transmitter can pass all day because it is operating alone on a standard. 17:55 So from what I understand (having been involved in the actual *testing* but not the formal certification process), it's a self-certification thing you do with an independent lab and you submit the paperwork to the FCC when the lab says you pass. They could have the paperwork from the lab saying they pass and just haven't submitted it to the FCC yet. The main reason not to do this is that that paperwork will contain details of the product that you might not want to be public too far ahead of ship (since the FCC does publicize them afaik). Since the Amico isn't anything super groundbreaking I can only assume that they're paranoid it will reveal problems with the product (e.g. using high supply chain risk parts) that they don't want the public or potential investors to find about about--or they might be afraid that someone might try to buy their parts out from under them maybe?

It's hopeless. This isn't 1979. The gaming hardware industry is a land of GIANTS now. The classic mini craze (as much as it was loved) has passed. Those systems were launched by big players still in the game with relevant flagship titles of their days, many of which still exist in franchised form, or are well known IPs. Intellivision isn't really remembered for any unique blockbuster games, and so far they are only 'promising' great exclusive 3rd party titles. The price is just a big red flag on their overall financial mismanagement. Amico isn't just late to the party, they're showing up to the wrong address without a gift.

Who is even going to produce games for it? Didn't they say at some point licensing fees were 50 percent? So at 10 bucks a pop the game developer sees 5? Let's be generous and assume the intial install is around 100000. General attach rates are around 20 percent so 100000 grand a game subtract dev costs. I mean a 2 or 3 person crew could do alright on those kinds of returns but they're not going to be producing system sellers so the install base will never grow. So the only people making games for it are going to be small teams producing quick cheap software or games produced through some subsidy like the German games being produced via tax credits. Again unlikely to be any system sellers in that grouping. Which means the only people left to produce 'big' system sellers that could grow the install base are intellivison themselves. And that would take a hefty amount of capital available right now to fund those games at a loss since they have zero product to sell. Is anyone actually deluded enough to think that this company has spare millions lying around to fund first party development of multiple high quality, exclusive games that could potentially move enough hardware units to produce an intial large enough install base to attract more substantial developers?

We know nothing about the Amico games, no. We do. Shipped in packs (so you can't even choose) as digital code redemptions with an NFT coin. Amico is probably a huge pump and dump, and kickstarter scam all rolled into one. The reason we don't have gameplay of those other games is probably because they don't actually exist, and possibly never will. People I follow like Rich of ReviewTechUSA have already ordered the console, and it still doesn't exist yet. MASSIVE red flags of a scam are going off in my noggin. I would start calling the FBI to investigate a potential pump and dump scam.

The reason they won't proceed with the FCC filing at this stage is because all FCC filings are publicly accessible. They contain schematics, internal photos, documents, radio output, and all information required for such a filing, and are free for anybody to search. I’ll defend switch library too and I just need one game to do it; Breath of the Wild. No I’m not a fanboy, actually think BOTW flawed in ways…well in ways that great games nearing true perfection usually are. But like so, an amico game, what at least $40? For something, I mean back in day play more, but by today’s standard subpar engagement level of a mobile game for $40. Or pay twice that for BOTW and arguably receive a game with gameplay hours alone that equals, ya know like 5 games for one almost when compared to price and length of something like COD vs BOTW. So ya, not only are more games on switch but ones you’ll enjoy on it likely provide far more value than a $40 digital access key to a nostalgia trip. Also ya Ian’s right, I used program RFID tags, actually company worked for invented first ever tag could be read simultaneously. But they were nightmare for bandwidth, never left prototype stage while I worked there and most common issue in for them was dropping their channel because data overflow and get “stuck” on tag. These were not small either, tag was but housing essentially minic’d piece of data cabling where tag would phsyically plug into data panel. Umm, so ya Tommy don’t know shit about RFID obvi. Supposed use to pass along or check data, not storage XD Oh and our tags were for cattle feed intake systems so security was a who cares, oh ya use your scanner go hard, you find out how low on water intake this month heifer #323 is lolololol

I have a bit of a thought occurring. What causes the RFID cards to actually verify a valid URL to the Amico? Or to rephrase: What prevents someone from tapping the Amico with a card that just so happens to lead to a malware APK that's meant to wipe all partitions? Addendum: Turns out Slopes Game Room (a Fig investor) has *_two_* interviews with TT lined up. One about "Nostalgia" (from a guy who wouldn't know it if it bit him in the face) and about the Amico itself. I hope he loudly discloses that he's an investor during these; but it's going to do harm to his reputation unless it turns out he's been biding his time to get chummy so he can rip TT a new one.

Let me be the straight shooter here: I am in the Amico target market and yes, we exist. Every week we're serenated with another video on why the Amico shouldn't be a thing, why it will fail, etc. I'm not affiliated with the company, I haven't preordered the Amico, etc. I'm just a casual, once a week gamer that doesn't care for online gaming or the constant headache of downloading 50GB patches that come with online gaming. I have plenty of money to spend on games - the Amico's asking price is McDonald's money, actually. I want a simple gaming experience and then I want to move forward with my life for the next week. The Amico wasn't designed for hardcore gamers like Pat and Ian and this is honestly why I believe they rail on the company so hard. You either can't understand what casual gamers want OR you're upset that this console isn't designed for you. If you own an XBOX or Playstation, congrats, you're a PC gamer. Meanwhile, Nintendo recycles the same things over and over. I check none of those boxes and I'm looking for something different. Amico is just that. Tommy and his gang are trying to spearhead a brand new console in the midst of a global pandemic and during a severe microchip shortage. They also do not having the funding to compete with Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo so they are finding creative ways to compete and I'm a fan of that, honestly. Podcasts like this one that constantly bash the Amico have actually led me TO Amico because I'd rather support the small guy as opposed to handing my money to a company like Microsoft.
