I think they are short on funds and the backlash they are having with this is enormous. At this point, I think they are gonna crash and burn the next year, similar to what happened to the Smach Z. At least they had a good idea but the CEO and the execution sucked. In Intellivision's case, the idea AND the CEO suck. This should have been a budget console like the Evercade VS is gonna be.

Is anyone going to pay $250 US to play Cornhole? The genius of Wii Sports is not the graphics. It's that they tuned the underlying tech so that there is little perceptible lag, and that you can play it pretty much like real bowling. Or tennis and golf. Anyone can understand it. But I watched Intellivision's recent 'unboxing' video where they demoed Cornhole. You have to pick your target, your hand position, and your arc on the touch screen before you actually throw the bag. It's a 4-step process. It seems the throw is really a substitute for a button press. And then there's noticeable lag between the throw and the action represented on screen. If this is their 'flagship' product, the one that tries to mimic the success of Wii Bowling, they failed miserably.

It’s so funny the way you guys have Tommy nailed. When they first announced the Amico, I was excited. But when they announced that they were opening offices in Europe and Dubai, I made a few comments on Intellivision’s Facebook posts. Basically, I said those steps were premature because they didn’t even have a console they could sell yet. Tommy jumped in and argued with me about that. Then he did it again when I compared the Intellivision to the Atari VCS because they both seemed like vaporware. He swings at everything and it just makes him look like an ass.

Panic recently sent out the Playdate to several major media outlets to do previews: The Verge, Ars Technica, IGN, Gamespot, and several others. We’re not talking about heavy supervision in a highly controlled environment…we’re talking about sending out complete hardware for journalists to play with at their leisure over the course of several weeks. THAT’S what you do when you’re confident in your supposedly soon-to-be released product.

@@Lappelduvideify Irrelevant. Delays happen, it's par for the course in this industry. Intellivision have yet to send ANY units out for previews. Instead they invite people to their site, and even then there were issues with the controller lag, so they couldn't even get that right! 3 months to launch and we're still seeing simple games like Cornhole are being worked on? This thing is dead in the water. Time for Tommy to start being honest. Announce a delay, and take the heat. They know their money is drying up which is why they are looking to do another round of investment, but without even a hint of a return, who would invest in this crap? The CFO playing coy with the definition of "physical media" is just gaslighting. When Tommy bragged "collectors will love us because of our physical games" he was asked point-blank a year and a half ago if that meant 1) You could trade the games 2) You could plug them in and play them with no internet connection (like in the not-so-distant future when Amico is out of business). He refused to answer those questions. To the Amico fanboys, they took his silence as a possibility they would (because confirmation bias and naivety). But to the skeptical, they knew that if those statements were true he'd never hesitate to answer "yes". The CFO basically blamed it on their "casual" target demographic and said they had to call them "physical games" because they wouldn't understand the distinction of code in a box and something like a cartridge. That's total BS. His imagined target demographic wouldn't care. Only the retro gamers and collectors care and those are the people Tommy and now the CFO have been stringing along with their deliberate word salad ("well what does 'exclusive' really mean?") and non-answers.

The Amico guys keep letting stuff slip they probably didn't want to when they try to defend their questionable decisions. In the past when people questioned how viable the Amico could be with its low-priced software and six built-in games, Tommy let slip they have a HUGE mark-up. Tommy's ego demanded he brag that Amico would make a profit on every console and retailers would receive more profit than compared to an Xbox or Playstation they stocked. After the CFO interview, someone asked why Amico moved into their office building AFTER the pandemic started (and everyone was working at home) and why all the personal stuff (like cars) were in that business space. As a defense, someone let slip "Well that building is owned by the CFO and that stuff was already there!". So in other words, AFTER almost everyone was working from home, Amico decides it needs a big office space owned by the CFO. That means Amico is paying rent to the CFO. The rent for office spaces plummeted after the pandemic started because the demand was so low with everyone working at home. A close friend who had just moved out of SF (one of the most expensive areas in the country for rent) was offered to have his rent HALVED if he would stay. So now (allegedly) the CFO has a building that he likely couldn't rent and was using for storing his personal cars and other man-toys (so who would want to rent such a space?). Amico to the rescue! What are the odds Amico is being billed pre-pandemic rent prices? Remember, the more money they can "expense" the less they have to pay in profits to the Fig/Republic "investors" when the final accounting is done. The more expenses they can put on the Amico bill (and pay out of that 12 million), the more they can keep in their own pockets (in the form of say rent). For instance, Tommy had the VGL thing in Austin. Do you think he billed his travel expenses to his VGL company (where it would come out of Tommy's personal profits since he owns that venture) or do you think he charged it to the Amico fund (where it comes out of the 12 million he crowdfunded) because of that "publicity event" at the videogame museum? Highly recommend watching the movie The Producers- the original with Gene Wilder not the remake.

Making the $12 million from the Fig/Republic fundraising disappear without the investors seeing a cent, wouldn't that be something? I really don't know how anyone could look at the Amico library and come away thinking it's an earnest effort at this point. @jesuszamora69493 жыл бұрын
He SHOULD have done that, but let's be real. This isn't about business. It's a vanity project. He wants to put out a console so he seems like an important member of the industry instead of an irrelevant fool who should have stuck to music composition. As flawed as the 3DO was, at least Trip Hawkins had a concrete vision beyond the inflation of his own ego.

In this video, you guys actually expose one of the biggest issues at Intellivision. Tommy recently did an interview before Nick's. Tommy states that there are 20+ games that could be put out and in stores. In Nick's interview, he basically cuts that number in half. Tommy also states that he hopes they can get 500 units out to key people for a soft launch, only moments later in the same interview he drops that number down to 'several hundred'. Now, they all just continue this whole charade as if the October launch is still happening. Info on the Amico, from the direct source, is all over the place. The CEO and the CFO are both saying very different things. How could anybody invest in something like this and not be alarmed?
@ezg20003 жыл бұрын
How and Why should someone invest in this company. And judging from tommy's past dealing with the amico, you have to believe Nick's comments more than tommy's. This just highlights how much of a snakeoil salesman tommy really is. How he has been lying to the public for years. And he wonders why people compare him to Mike Kennedy and the Chameleon.
@poboxchristmas3803 жыл бұрын
@@ezg2000 Yeah, I would imagine that by this point, Nick is smart enough to see how Tommy is hurting the company. I wonder if he can even keep track of all of the stuff Tommy says? There's a reason he's saying things that contradict Tommy's narrative. Either Nick is trying to change the narrative or he just doesn't know all of the stuff Tommy has already said. Regardless, it just ends up looking unprofessional for the company, especially when Tommy did that video right after Nick's interview. If there is an Intellivision Civil War, I'm with Nick Richards.
@ezg20003 жыл бұрын
@@poboxchristmas380 Same, even though I am not a big fan of Nick's, I would side with him over tommy. And it doesn't have anything to do with the prairie dogs. But Nick is taking investors money twice. He is getting paid big for letting tommy use his oversize office for the amico. Then he is getting paid as the CFO. Nick knows a small company like the amico shouldn't be in a 20,000 sq ft office space. But he wants those checks.
@poboxchristmas3803 жыл бұрын
@@ezg2000 Yeah, I'm no fan of Nick either, but at least he's easier to listen to and interact with than Tommy. There's really quite a bit going on within the scene on both sides that I don't agree with. I'm against any kind of threatening or getting too personal, but I'm also against superchats and stuffing the shills G-strings and clout chasing. I'm not out to make a name for myself on any level. I'm just one of those guys that bought an Ouya and don't want that type of nonsense in gaming again. People need to put Tommy on the spot and ask the tough questions, same for Nick and anybody else involved. It's safe to say that many of the shills have already ruined their reputations in defense of Tommy's nonsense.

To put it in perspective, Nintendo frequently delayed N64, alienated most third-parties who supported them with NES, SNES and sold several million N64's because it had Mario 64 and pretty much nothing else (the first two years of owning an N64 sucked). They only got away with this because it's Nintendo - anybody else would've been gone.

"Price of a Switch or XBox". Thanks to Valve for adding the Steam Deck to that list too. I'll ask again, who the heck is this console made for again? When it's in the price range of 2 handhelds that have better quality games than this, it has no legs any more. It has to drop in price, or be DOA.

Here is what made me go "WTF"....how hard is it to put a flipping MicroSD on the system and simply have the physical media be on MicroSD? Hell I've seen $30 Chinese clone consoles with MicroSD slots and as small as the games are probably gonna be on this thing I couldn't see the cards required even costing a buck a pop. This makes me think that not only are they lying but they don't really have anyone there that knows hardware as it would be simple as hell to have the option of buying boxed games with a little MicroSD inside.
@callak_99743 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure these games could fit on a micro sd card that would have fit in my 2002 Nokia flip phone, a massive 1 mb of storage space!
@TheHangarHobbit3 жыл бұрын
@@callak_9974 Exactly but even if they used say a 1Gb card (as I seriously doubt anybody even still makes the old sub 1Gb cards anymore) in bulk you can probably get them for less than 20c and with a nice little plastic box with graphics maybe $2, less than a dollar if they used cardboard like the old NES boxes. So the fact they didn't do something as obvious as put a MicroSD slot on the unit makes me think they really have no clue how to design a system even using COTS parts as MicroSD is insanely cheap.

what if this ends like Silicone Knights "Too Human", they end up trying to sue a company that's 10 times bigger then they are? Friendly reminder, Silicone Knight tried to sue Epic Games for not developing their engine, and then they used their engine as they did a game for Sega, and they got sued into OBLIVION!
@anthonynoel573 жыл бұрын
Not exactly but the gist is right, Silicon Knights sued Epic games for breach of contract and fraud claiming that Epic had used the licensing fees that were to include providing direct support for unreal 3 to Silicon Knights during Too Human's development and instead used that money to pay for development of Gears of War rather then provide the obligated support. They claimed that this required them to basically develop their own engine for use in Too Human. this was also used in the X-Man game for Sega they developed. However Epic countersued them claiming that since they had access to a pre release version of unreal 3.0 for, I believe it was 8 to 10 months, they had not built their own engine but simply used the unreal 3.0 source code as a base and had basically "Stolen" unreal 3.0 tech. Unfortunately for Silicon Knights Epic was able to show multiple examples of how Silicon Knights' "engine" still had the exact same base code as the early version of Unreal 3.0, i.e they didn't even file off the serial numbers, and they got spanked hard. All games made with the engine had to be yanked from all forms of distribution.

You know, I've always had one question. Why is _Cornhole_ the name of the flagship title? That's an insular regional name, whereas people know what bean bag toss and will realize how bad the library is. This is a game that's basically a freebie on what, over 30 shovelware collections? It's something you can replicate with a mouse cursor, but isn't even fun like air hockey. (Which was perfected in 1993 with SLAM! for Windows 3.1)
