Covering Basie is ambitious...Fun Time flag-waving opener showcases some heavy-ass cats. Straight ahead indeed! Nestico would have loved this performance. Basie would approve too. Great balance. Real tough tune,...great unison work. Patti has big ears, killer pitch and irresistable swing. No wonder that for a time, she was the most-employed jingle singer in world. Then Quincy produced her and, the rest is history. Her album The Real Me features Patti in top form and super arrangements. But no video, unfortunately of that era.

I saw this woman in concert loving her music for years, and like this video it was about Ella Fitzgerald I was blown away as was the entire audience for two hours we laughed Patti told personal stories about Ella as if she knew her personally which she didn't, you can tell there is a great respect by Patti for Ella and to put it bluntly Patti is a musical genius an evening seared into my memory of beautiful music with an amazing artist!

Firstly, Maria thanks so much for uploading this fabulous concert by the incredible Ms Patti Austin and the wonderful Frankfurt Radio Big Band! And Patti, she just amazes me with her effortless singing, pitch perfect tone and timing, and hitting the incredibly high notes at the end of How high the moon. And at 68 years old! (at the time of concert). Her vocals are still as strong and pristine as ever! Not many singers above 65 can claim to that. Patti Austin is really simply amazing. Simply divine.

Patti Austin is one of those performers that I could imagine being a good friend. I think this comes from knowing her for so long as a recurrent source of beautiful music. I remember how impressed I was when I found out she was the voice on the Rippingtons' "I Watched Her Walk Away." It is great to see her here.

She was striking, and good looking when she was young, albeit overweight, but her good looks have matured into a mature and sultry beauty. i dont feel she's ever received her due, but has been consistently unrated, and is one of a dying breed - an emotionally mature chanteuse who can soundly handle a classically jazzy song.

I became a fan of Patti since the time she was singing back-up vocals for great artists like Roberta Flack. Then Quincy brought her to the front on his albums and I have bought all of her works from the beginning namely Havana Candy and End of the Rainbow. When I formed a concert production company in Thailand, Patti was flown in for a concert in Bangkok and having the opportunity to be around her allowed me to witness the musical genius that she is.

Excellent!!!!!!!! A gorgeous tribute. Patti has pipes apropos to handle Ella's vast catalog. But what's great is she's not imitating... she's giving the true essence in today's vernacular. What a great voice and styling.. I LOVE THIS!!
