There’s something special with the balladeers and jazz artists of the 50s/60s. The quality of their instrument is out of this world - their vocal texture, tone, colour, phrasing - just mesmerising!!

This was music. These were ladies. That was a voice with elegance and charm. I am so glad I was born in those times when art was real. I daily thank God for not being born and growing up in these present times. Thank you Ella Fitzgerald, thank you Dinah Washington, thank you Doris Day, thank you Betty Carter, thank you Etta Jones, thank you Julie London, thank you Anita O'Day and thank you to the lovely and unique Nancy Wilson for showing us the light of an artform pure and deep. Those days are gone folks....pack your stuff, the present is just filled with boiled shit pretending to be artists. When I play this music in my home.....even my dog recognizes the difference between right and wrong when it comes to the music. Isn't that sad?

Nancy Ann lived here and passed away here in Pioneer Town California. Drove a 6-year-old infinity she bought new of course ... and was so down to earth and lovable. In her final days she was on dialysis just like her late husband. But too weak to work anymore (and surely didn't need to!) she rounded up her band and flew out to Ohio to do one last public appearance for her alma mater. with her therapy arm stylishly draped in the black silk that matched her gown, she bravely greeted the audience and said if not for Cannon Ball Adderly and God, she would have stayed in pre-med . She sang her first number one hit. "and you don't know...how glad I am" and as the band kept playing..sang a few extra verses, looked at the mic she was holding and gently laid it down.......clearly signaling the final note to her career. That was it! she flew home and gracefully endured the agony of advanced renal failure at home with her loving cats and her audiobooks. She was a DEVOUT child of God and lived a Godly life.

Hv loved her since i was 12, and my admiration has never wavered. Very mean of the music industry not to hv named her a living legend while she was alive!! For us, of course, she had ALWAYS been a timeless legend!!!

I've attended about 20 Nancy Wilson concerts. I was fortunate to hear her in large venues like the Auditorium Theater in Chicago and very small places . I remember seeing her in a place so small that I could touch her . My seat was that close to the tiny stage. I remember thinking that she must be going through hard times to perform at such a tiny spot. I felt sorry for her but happy for myself because seeing Nancy Wilson in a small , intimate setting was the BEST way to experience her genius.

Every time I see this particular video, from the Hollywood Palace (I've been in the audience twice), it blows me away the pipes this woman had. Not to mention the great song stylist she was. This is her in her prime, which was glorious indeed. I've been fortunate, and old enough, to have seen her in concert more than a dozen times. And under various social and business circumstances, have met with her on 4 occasions. Each seared into my mind. What a woman. Smart, funny and gorgeous at all ages. Sigh.
