@SDSFG453 жыл бұрын
there were default, or should I say, "back up microphones" down below the stage she was perched on, there near the end of' this song...in the event of some sort of audio failure (and there were several at Live Aid including Patti LaBelle's), the mics, below the main stage, would automatically, kick in and connect to a "booster" up there where she was singing. And by the sound of it, those default boosters, didnt work very well, either...BUT STILL!...you have to have pipes of steel, to project your voice in a way, that was discernable to that huge audience, given the mishaps with the sound. And she did, obviously. Ive worked sound and lights in theater work, as well as concerts, going on 25 yrs. So, I know how this works. And none of what went wrong with the audio, was her band's fault. It was a given that sound failures would happen, when you've got this many acts, following each other and adjusting their soundchecks, according to what worked for them. You have to hand it to the stage hands and producers, who made lemons into lemonade with this concert. It was a huge feat, really.

When Patti gets in her zone, the shoes comes off, the hands starts flying, and she's dancing while singing. She's not following no script. You just stand back, let her do her thang, and enjoy her performance. She's going hit impossible notes and hold her vocals longer than normal. She is a spectacular vision to watch. I pity any singer who has to follow her act. That's why it is always best to let Patti close the show because after watching her, everyone else pales. You don't want to be the singer performing after Patti LaBelle.

you have to be paying close attention, to see what Im going to describe, here....when she finishes her set, with Somewhere Over the Rainbow, she making her way to the back of the stage, after she made her way around the front. And I just caught it today, watching that footage where she's just ad-libbing and doing her frantic hand waving and what not...but if you pay attention, just to her right as the people lining the perimeter of the backstage, there is Dionne Warwick, clapping her hands and sorta jumping up and down a little bit, with a big smile on her face. .and then not even two seconds later, you see Patti stroll right past Cher, standing there in white, with what looked like a bodyguard..and she's also got this look of admiration on her face, for Patti. Ive seen Patti's set for Live Aid, for years now...and out of the corner of my eye, I caught those two, watching Patti's segment of the show. Very cool, indeed. Its not this song, but her closing her set w/ 'Over the Rainbow'.
