My family grew up with Luther and his mother did know. She tossed him out as a teen and my family took him in. She only accepted him later because he promised her he wouldn’t put it out there. Patti was his best Hollywood friend not the inner circle. My uncle toured with him almost to the end. His mom is extremely religious and a part of the church. I’m not sure if she is still alive but I think so because my uncle helped take care of her after Luther’s death. His mother was the reason he struggled and there are so many great stories about him but they are rarely told because people close to him know how important it was to him to protect his mom. Everyone please be true to who you are because you only get one life to live and it’s yours.
