Here's my story about what made me decide to leave the United States and why I chose Panama to call my new home country. People leave their country of origin for a variety of reasons; and chose their new country for many different reasons. Panama appealed to me for many reasons that I talk about in this video.

You described Panama as 'coming home' I think. I did a tour in 2021 and it was traveling almost every day, seeing all sorts of places. But I felt so relaxed and stress free.. very hard to describe to someone that hasn't been there and felt that. I hope to get back next year when I attempt retirement. I want to visit again... and seriously look around for my 'just right' area. Then come back and sell it all... sort of like you did. I remember one video where you had to go back for the 'final sale' if I remember right. Doesn't seem like that long ago!!

@@anniesshenanigans3815 Yes, it did feel so comfortable being in Panama from the start. Purge vigorously!!! But bring good knives, any sheets you love and garden tools if you plan on gardening ☺️ You might consider renting in a few different locations to see where your more permanent place will be. Maybe have your things in a storage unit while you explore areas.

My father had a saying: “*We know where we are born, but not where we will die*”. I think our life journey takes us through different moments and paths that can lead us to new places and people, we never know where that might be and while scary, change sometimes is good, that is what life is about. Thank you for sharing your story about how you came to Panama and I’m glad you now call it home. Many of us do.

When I was in my teens, I recall listening to stories about people who moved to other countries or spent seasons in different locations, and that piqued my curiosity but I never imagined I could create that for my own life. Panama is a good choice. I have been in Panama for 25 years now. Became a citizen in 2013. I travel on a Panamanian passport.. When I go through immigration at Tocumen they say welcome home. Anyway I think Panama is great. Haven't been back to the US in over 15 years. Too expensive plus most of the people I knew there are now in the cemetary. All my friends are here in Panama. Panama is a good place to retire. Good video. Good luck un Panama.

Great video from a strong woman! Love the idea of housesitting to start! Booked a relocation tour in February 2025 and looking forward to it. I'm definitely in a dilemma. @@judithvilla6026 There are condos in the jungle-y area on the outskirts of the city that might be a good compromise, close to the city but in a more green setting. I felt Altos a bit too isolate. It’s beautiful but too far from anything for supplies or socializing.

@@bessycorrales2259 If there is any human interaction, feeding, bathing in the river, walking to a destination - the animals are being exploited. Sadly, Thailand is not the place to go for ethical wildlife observation. The place I went to was called Elephants World but has since changed names, still the same bad players. Don’t fall for the marketing bs. I’d suggest Africa for elephant observation. My book on preparing for Thailand travel has a broad explanation of the history of elephant exploitation in Thailand.

My wife was recently in a Panamanian public hospital (Hospital Santo Tomas) for twenty-two days, mostly in the Intensive Care department. She suffered a traumatic brain injury from a fall, was in a coma, and unfortunately died of cardiac and other complications. Even though the final bill was a fraction of what it would have been in a private for-profit Panamanian hospital, and magnitudes less expensive than a stateside hospital, I cannot say enough about the excellent care she received. Every day when I went to visit there was a nurse bathing her, turning her, massaging her, making sure she was not in pain. The doctors and neurosurgeons were all compassionate and communicated freely and openly with me. Just be sure to sort out your insurance needs. The funeral home provided excellent service at a very affordable price. Panama is not a backwater. It has excellent medical and dental services at very reasonable prices compared to the States.
