GARY MOORE (4 April 1952 - 6 February 2011)
In remembrance to one of my all time guitar heroes, who sadly passed away a year ago today. This remains one of my favourite performances by him and I can still remember buying the original version, written and recorded by Roy Buchanan, when I was still a 15 year old boy and starting out learning to play the guitar.
This performance was recorded at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1990 - a venue he revisited a number of times through the years.
Gary, you are sadly missed.

Although Gary Moore was well recognized, I strongly believe that he was underrated. He had the technique, he had the inspiration, he had song writing skills, he had a good the voice, and lots of feeling. He could play rock, blues, heavy metal, jazz, and anything else. He was much better in every area than many other overrated guitarists. Brother Gary, you now get tho play this song in heaven for the Messiah. Rest in power!

I'm 65 yo...I cut my rock n roll teeth on classic rock...I've heard and seen a lot of axe masters...but when asked who's your favorite guitarist, well, and at the risk of sounding trite, it's like asking whose your favorite child...all of them bring something to the table...but there's always that one that will be your pick...maybe all of them are salient, depending on what mood you're in and what you want to hear at the time...I don't make a hierarchical list of musicians I love, esp. guitarist...I put them in a box, but I have a hierarchy of boxes I enjoy...of course, it's all subjective, but GM is on the top tier of all boxes that I contain my guitar heroes in...Gary was more than phenomenal, he was a phenomenon...a total experience...a sonic dynamo that I haven't heard replicated or duplicated yet...and again, in my humble opinion, there's probably some 12 yo sitting in his room right now honing his chops that none of us will ever conceive of ever achieving...I play guitar...not bad at it either...but there are guitar players, then there's guitar players...I'm not the latter...all that to say this: Gary's sitting on the top of my top box...hope this makes sense...and if it don't - well, then you're welcome to explain it better than me...I'll respect you for it.

Sadly I didn't find him until after he left his human existence. This song is everything, it takes you for one helluva a ride and just when you think he can't take you any higher he does and it feels as though your soul is being pulled right out of your chest. This song will be my last gift to all who attend my life party, there will be comfortable chairs that you can lean back on and a killer sound system, all they'll have to do is lean back, close their eyes and enjoy the ride. Thank you Gary Moore for sharing your gift with us, through your music you will forever live on.

Gary Moore was the guitarist that was about the music and the smoothness of a track he made, it explains his ‘bending into notes technique’ which many players never used they would just pick the note with a little vibrato but Gary bent into the note which created a more ‘smooth’ sound, and the mans bluesy and touching guitar licks were like none other, this man was a living Legend. Rest In Peace Master.

I've heard some great guitarists play some great solos, but I've never heard anyone but Gary display this level of sustained mastery, ever! These ten minutes of pure emotion and technical brilliance show that Mr. Moore was a guitar virtuoso almost without equal. Listening to this was akin to listening to a great violin virtuoso playing Tchaikovskys violin concerto, another technically demanding piece wrought with emotion. RIP Gary Moore.
