Trato de levantarme lo más temprano que puedo. Me despierto a las seis o siete de la mañana. Y luego, voy a beber un vaso de agua fría y me lavo los dientes. Después de eso, me siento un rato mientras escucho música. Yo, entonces, procedo a desayunar. Luego, esperaba unos minutos mientras charlaba con algunas amigas antes de comenzar mi ejercicio. My rutina depende si estoy trabajando o no. Cuando estoy trabajando, me levanto, hago mi cama, bebo un Vaso de agua, pongo agua en la cara, y despues desayuno. Me Lavo Los dientes, me visto, y despues me voy. Cuando no estoy trabajando, hago Las mismas cosas, pero un poco mas tarde, porque me levanto cundo quero. Y despues de levantarme hago tambien un poco yoga porque tengo el tiempo, y es muy neccesario.

"Se me olvidó jalarle al baño" is a sentence that is confusing me. What is the benefit of constructing the sentence like this instead of something like "Me olvidé jalarle al baño"?

Also a beginner so not sure but I think the reflexive version (olvidarse) implies that it happened accidentally or regularly ("whoops, I forgot") whereas olvidar on its own is more like "i forgot this specific thing".

Hi! In Spanish, when it comes to the verb olvidar, you have three different ways to construct a sentence: olvidar, olvidarse (with ‘de’) and olvidársele. So you can say: 1) Olvidé la llave. 2) Me olvidé de la llave. 3) Se me olvidó la llave (depending on the pronoun you can say se me/te/le/os/nos/les) As you can see, in the first two sentences, the subject pronoun is I. However, in the third one, the subject pronoun is it (la llave). It is like you want to put the emphasis on someone/something else. I feel like the last option is quite common in Spain. That’s why she said ‘se me olvidó jalarle al baño’. It literally translates to (flushing the toilet made me forget itself). It sounds so weird in a different linguistic context but makes sense in Spanish. One of the things one has to learn by heart I guess. I hope it was helpful.

It can make the sentence feel less direct and more about the occurrence of the event rather than the person's active involvement. When you say, "Se me olvidó jalarle al baño," it translates to "It slipped my mind to flush the toilet". The use of "se" here implies that the forgetting is something that happened somewhat passively-like it just slipped away without much control from the speaker. On the other hand, "Me olvidé de jalarle al baño" is also correct but slightly more direct. It's more straightforward and focuses more explicitly on "I" as the subject who did the forgetting.
