Saw them at the Roadrunner in Boston back in May 2023. During that performance, I reminisced about how I even got here. I bought my first ever iPod video back in 7th grade but had no way of putting music in it. Luckily, my friend had a computer and all the music I needed for my musical journey. He gave it back to me the next day and I stumbled upon a music video. Clicking on 'No I In Threesome' just completely encapsulates you. This sudden euphoria lasted minutes afterwards as it enhanced every emotion in my body. My hair stood up, I became aware of my breathing pattern and I was cemented on my bed momentarily. Interpol was there for me in my highs and lows of HS. They were there for me when my heart fluttered with a crush and when I experienced heartache. They were there for me when I moved across the country for a better job opportunity. I didn't have friends right away but they were my companions during those lonely grave night shifts. If I'm lucky enough to become a parent one day, I look forward to buying them their own version of an iPod and preparing them for their musical journey. Maybe I'll be a little biased and point them into Interpol's discography haha thank you for the memories and I look forward to hearing your new album. 🙏

Carlos was the heart of this band and Paul spilled it here, he pushed everyone to their edge with music theory and how smart he was and really make them think outside the box and create something amazing and memorable. Thats why self titled is my personal favorite album

i got my ass kicked on reddit for saying this out loud. i think carlos was an integral part of the bands excellence. i think he was that guy on a band that pushes to the limit until greatness is achieved. i'm not saying that from "el pintor" onwards their albums are garbage, they're really great rock records, but that edge that carlos brought, was lost when he left. i think the reason why they haven't filled the bassist position, officially, is because the band needs some sort of closure or something, i think is a testimony of how important carlos d was to the band.

Also I'm totally holding out for a Carlos D. redemption story. I know they were (for good reasons) a very unhappy marriage but I believe people can change. Also Carlos is a fucking genius on the bass. Maybe they can do it in a way that is the opposite of the failures that Van Halen had at reuniting the original lineup.

Just love Interpol… Here are my Interpol stories: Saw Interpol in Phoenix AZ during the Antics tour. One of the best show I’ve ever seen. The album Interpol (#4) is probably my favorite album of theirs. I bought it on iTunes on release. I was at my local library (RSM CA) a few weeks ago and some idiot turned it in to the libraries charity shop. I got a physical copy of the album in pristine condition for 50 cents. I respect Paul for his pics on Amoeba: what’s in my bag - his picks John Frusciante’s Niandra Lades and Usually Just a T shirt and the movie Master and Commander were awesome picks. I’ve spent hours listening to Interpol. Great band!

I am Paul's exact age. I also remember seeing the Lithium video at 13, while walking through an airport in 1992. That is what made me a Nirvana fan. I had initially disliked Nirvana and 'grunge'! But Nirvana alone captured my interest. Even then it was clear they were the real thing, while the other 90s bands were not in the same league. Old people talking about their youth is lame and boring, Lol, but I agree with him, it was definitely a moment in time. Seems almost forgotten now.

Going to have to say the interviewer is abit wrong on no other bands after the 00s wave. The second wave in nyc 2008 to 2012 arguably was commercially bigger MGMT, Vampire Weekend, Grizzly Bear , Animal Collective to The Drums. Early aughts were more Manhattan rock bands and indie bands to the 2010s was the bk band wave.

@BananaWorm Interpol wrote a solid album with Marauder and for whatever reason decided they did not want the album to actually sound good. The sloppy performances, Paul's awful vocals, the shit production, that album has so much going against it it's actually insane. If you gave the material to another younger band with a better producer they'd come out with a really good album. It could've been a solid return to form and a great addition to the discography if not for the goofiness. Interpol just doesn't make good album decisions, same with El Pintor not having The Depths, What is What and All at Once in the tracklist but Same Town somehow makes the cut lmao. But yeah I enjoy marauder somewhat still. It's just tiring to see a band you love repeatedly shooting themselves in the foot.

Scott, please please do a little more research on your subjects and music in general. There are always so many cringe-y slip ups ("Sam Worthington" "Can't imagine what (a classic-influenced) Interpol record sound like", not being sure if Sonic Youth is an NYC band???). You are talented but, like the Albert Hammond interview, you can tell the subjects are just cringing along. Also you don't need to say you're 'friends' with the people every few seconds during the intro.
