My husband and I went on the Paul Gauguin 25 years ago as part of our 1 month long honeymoon. We married age 50. We married in Hawaii, then flew to Fiji to 3 different areas. We are scuba divers. We spent a week on Bora Bora, then got on the ship for our final week. We loved it. It was my first high level cruise, and it was intimate and romantic. We met other honeymooners. The food was great, we got a larger cabin, and were incredibly happy. I am looking at them again, for 2023. I still dive but my husband cannot. I have to determine if my husband will enjoy it and be able to navigate the tenders. He cannot walk on a beach, as he uses a walker. We will see. I love the diving platform. Great ship, just the right size. Not cheap, but we are 75 now, so time to spend our money, lol.

My wife and I have made two cruises aboard Paul Gauguin and are eagerly anticipating another. Marquesas cruise was outstanding and the one that included Cook Islands was also good. Next time hope for visits to Tuamotus. Wonder if Gary has ever been aboard the Aranui V?

Another great video, Gary. I would definitely like to do that cruise but as a solo traveler, I think I may just try to do Tahiti and French Polynesia as part of a World Cruise... We'll see. I do love researching the possibilities. Thanks, Gary!

I went on the Paul Gaugin as a solo traveler. As Gary said, work with your travel agent or the cruise line for the solo fares. The cruise staff was great with solo travelers...they really go out of their way. I stayed in an overwater bungalow in Moorea before the cruise and it is a great way to start a vacation.

Great video! We are preparing for our upcoming cruise with PG through the Society Islands. I am interested in going to the InterContinental Bora Bora Resort but I do not see it as a listed excursion. Did you book this with PG or make another arrangement?

Another great video Gary! I noticed when you were talking about the kids club, that you’d missed the pronunciation of Moana. It’s pronounced as Mo-Ah-Nah (rhymes with bow, car, car). It’s a common word in Polynesia which means ocean :) Look forward to the next video!

Great video as always. Do you think it’s a cruise that you can take without using the excursions or is it essential to factor in the costs for those?

Thanks. You definitely don't have do the excursions if you prefer self exploring. They always had tips and would help people to sort out things, including arranging to have car hire etc

I was actually looking at Paul Gauguin cruises this afternoon so this video came at a perfect time. I was interested in the 14 night cruise to the Society Islands but wasn't sure if it would be better to do a 7 night cruise followed by a hotel in French Polynesia. What are your thoughts?

Did I hear that correctly, no shorts? What is the reason? I have been to the Hawaiian islands at least 20 times, and that is what most people wear, even in expensive restaurants.

Just returned from a 10-day Paul Gauguin cruise. Now that it's part of Ponant, it's gone downhill. The food was only average with a couple of stand out nights. Also, if you don't speak French, you're missing out on a lot. The internet was TERRIBLE.

Unlike many other cruise lines, Paul Gauguin won't publish pricing. You get their travel agent to call you to play 'let's make a deal'. I prefer using companies that are more transparent and up fron with pricing. I really wanted to do this trip with PG but will have to pass, on principle.

Probably one of those kind of vacations where you don't have to ask how much it is because money is not an issue. But I would be curious to know how much a trip like that is. Considering it's such a low number of passengers probably quite expensive, even Gary said that

Really astonishing to see this over-the-top Paul Gaugin commercial (!) uncritically filled with so much praise for this poorly run, overpriced, tired ship that badly needs new management, new staff, and refurbishing. Our June 2019 cruise was the worst, by far, of the five cruises we've taken -- although maybe we were spoiled by superb Noble Caledonia and Silversea ships. Excursions were poorly differentiated, and terribly managed. Typical of our bad experiences with the excursion team: At the Rangiroa atoll, famous for its enormous lagoon. It was windy and all our excursions were cancelled. The many people who wanted to go ashore were dumped at the pier by the indifferent Gaugin cruise staff who made absolutely no effort to salvage the day. Food was OK but rarely special. And, with few exceptions, the ship's waiters and other staff (usually 100% friendly on other cruise ships) were often indifferent or even surly. All in all, I only wish the actual cruise had been as pretty as this video.
