I SO wish that Paul still made music like this... I love his melodic pop songwriting and I love his singing voice...even more than his truly remarkable guitar playing. Please make music like this again, Paul...

To me, this kind of album sets Paul apart from the majority of eletric guitar virtuosos from his generation. He's not only the monster shredder we know so well, but also has a feel for composing good pop rock-like tunes. Personally, I really like this album, and has a great nostalgia in it for me... thanks for the music Paul!

People who don't get this album (Or his other early solo albums) don't fully get Paul...He was heavily influenced by 60's and 70's pop music...This was his answer to that...I personally think this stuff is vastly misunderstood but as someone who understands it, I think its great.

@MuneebChiken Жыл бұрын
Definitely he himself says it he was more influenced by the Beatles, David Bowie, robin trower, jimi, Stevie Ray, led zep... All of them.... And you can find those influences in every album... He is a amazing shredder... But their is a different story on the other side of his plying.... Which you can find out in old Paul..... He is now a pure rock and blues player. Cheers

I can tell Paul drew HUGE inspiration from The Szuters/Mike Szuter as far as songwriting. So much so, Paul tapped Mike to play bass for him a few years back.
@TheBassomar5 жыл бұрын
Ron Williams i have a hard time believing Mike didn’t co-write this. The vocals are so much like mike and cj. Even his playing . I know he was very high influence on mike but man if I heard this and someone didn’t tell me who it was I’d guess the szuters all day long.
Paul usually use the double trouble song as a jam song in his clinic (early 2000), such a good song

There aren't that many songs with my name in it. The ironic thing about My Naomi is the simple fact I happen to write poetry! Plus I've had a few broken hearts. I also think he sounds like Julian Lennon who is John Lennons first son in that song and I'm a huge Beatles fan!

I don't see this album on Paul's YT page which I see as a significant oversight. I saw Mr Big open for Rush and was blown away by Paul's playing. Went out and bought Racer X' albums and I've been following him ever since.

to me Paul Gilbert's 4 first solo albums (this one until 2002 Burning Organ) are as special and powerful as The Police albums or the first 4 Van Halen albums... they're that good and authentic 🤘💪🎸

I just love THE JIG 12:24 and THE JAM! 36:58 That's what a guitar player flocks to for inspiration! And if you love those then you'd love his CD "GET OUT OF MY YARD" which I played through at least 200 times and it never gets old! No singing pop songs either...because there's enough pop music out there already and Paul Gilbert is a shredder genius and that's where I get my goosebumps from!!

I really wish I could get into this and his other solo Pop works, but every time I revisit them (I own this album and "Flying Dog") I'm on the edge of cringe. And yes, I listen to most of the Pop music that Paul likes. Not saying it's badly done, just not for me.

I'm a huge fan of most of his stuff..and he is one of my favorite guitarists....but IMO this album is not very good. Not even the long jam session (that sort of gets annoying after about 2 to 3 minutes) can save this album.

As a catchy rock, (Beatlesque, and Elvis Costello like) album I would give this 4 out of 5 stars. Somebody mentioned that Paul was heavily influenced by pop and rock bands from 60s and 70s including Beatles (check Yellow Matter Custard project). Not for heavy metal and shredding fans but this is very good in its own category

@@D4veJap4n Never heard about that one, see if you can find it. His old website was so fucking cool too... I always love this album from the first listen, some people just take themselves too seriously and feel like others have to live miserable lives just like theirs xDDD I doubt Paul would give reason to these people, unless he's out of touch of what kind of audience he has (which seems like the case for his latest most recent work these days... sadface)
