Television networks are going broke, because Television is a dying medium. With online streaming platforms, television networks become obsolete. The way music is purchased has changed as well. With music streaming, you have a giant pool of popular music from any decade, available at a mouse click, at any given time. Of course this will shift the focus from current popular music to the classics. Apart from this, I personally think that current popular music is WAY more inventive and interesting and diverse than it has been 10, 15 years ago, with a lot of "Indie pop" acts breaking in to the Mainstream, such as Sia, Grimes, Marina and the Diamonds, CHVRCHES and many many more.

I do have a bit of time for some of PJW's arguments but this video was like time travelling back to the 1980s and listening to some US Republican senator ranting about how Mario Brothers and Guns&Roses were corrupting the youth. Just out of touch. I agree with him to the extent that a vast majority of popular culture is garbage (think X-Factor & Hollywood remakes) but we live in an age where the whole world is available to access on the web. We're no longer confined to a few TV and radio stations. There is a ton of great new music, TV, films and art out there if you're willing sift through the crap. I agree with him about the lack of a defining generational scene since grunge (and Britpop in the UK), but I think that goes hand in hand with the internet and choice. When you only have limited options it's natural people will end up picking one and identifying with it. I think people cherry-pick what suits them now and have more eclectic tastes. Sure that makes everything a little more homogeneous, but it's hardly a threat to our civilisation. As I get older and as I have kids of my own the hypersexualization of pop culture is a concern to me, but I guess we all get a bit more conservative as we grow up. I expect the parents of the 60s kids felt exactly the same way about the Beatles & Stones. It's easy to get stuck in echo chambers and blow things out of all proportion. I'm guilty of that myself, even when I can see full well what is happening. It's natural to return to comfortable ideas that reinforce our prejudices. Thanks for making this reaction. Loved the comment about SJWs = shooting fish in the barrel. Good to hear that you don't have to be a fearless Red Pilled internet warrior to recognise their brand of lunacy. We all need to chill out a bit and try and keep things in perspective.
