Just a point to show how loved this song is in Australia, today 21 Dec, is often referred to as 'Gravy Day' after the line in the first verse! Not everyone ofcourse but many do and especially news services etc, I deliver all over and I will wish everyone Happy Gravy Day today!

HTMG had no profile for more than a decade … until he performed it at a Xmas show and then it gained more popularity during Covid lockdowns when the empathy found somewhere to land seeing as our borders were closed and we were missing our families. PK has made 28 albums across many genres. Re Bob Dylan, I recommend the song Words And Music. There’s no KZbin video but it’s here in audio and I think you’d like it. BTW, this is much better performed live. Much better.

So glad you liked it Shawn, thought it would be right up your alley!! Paul Kelly is amazing, so many fantastic songs. People will say he doesn't have a fantastic voice...but they are wrong! His voice suits his music perfectly and I can't imagine anyone else singing any of his songs. He conveys emotion so effortlessy. Will have more from him shortly!! Vika and Linda Bull are amazing singers in their own right (didn't really have a big part here) but have been backing vocals for many great Aussie bands, most notably The Black Sorrows, who come to think of it I must submit a reaction on them for you to enjoy!

Mate what a legendary reaction. Respect. You watched the video without interrupting, the only way to hear this song. Paul is recognised as Australias most revered and respected song writer. Find and react to everything of Pauls you can mate and you will be a KZbin star. Try also Crowded House, Weddings Parties Anything, Hoodoo Gurus and The Church, to name a few. Truly great bands the world missed out on.

Paul Kelly is a certified National Treasure! Songs like this have a real emotional impact without being sentimental. So many great songs of his to check out - To Her Door, Dumb Things, Deeper Water, and much more. Also look up From Little Things Big Things Grow, co-written with indigenous songwriter Kev Carmody, about one of the first Aboriginal Land Rights cases that lasted several years over the 1960s and 70s.

Songs to review are: - Bow River (pronounced like the bow around ya neck, not the noise a dog makes), check out the Ringside live performance - When the War is Over (Ringside) - Wild Thing (from The Last Stand concert in '83) - Georgia by Ian Moss (The Last Stand '83). Awesome you guys are catching on to some of our amazing musical talent … and as words are so important to all people… they transcend all countries … I saw Paul Kelley at our local supermarket in stkilda , Melbourne 4-5 days ago 😂❤ , he was such a gentlemen, just buying his groceries … I’m sure the young lady behind the counter didn’t know who he was … but I sure did … he is definitely the equivalent as a “songwriter “ to Dylan … not as high profile as bob , but he had 200 million people in the USA .. Paul Kelley only 20-25 million in Australia over his career, Bob still amazing but I’m sure Paul could of made it in The USA and Uk , but he is just the coolest person… don’t think he cares for it ❤🇦🇺🎄 merry Christmas from Australia

Yes mate Paul is a legend in the true sense of the word, the story behind Gravy dates back to Paul being asked to record a song for a charity album only to find the song he chose was already taken so said he would try writing his own one. He based the story like the legendary White Christmas with the person not being able too be home and history was born. I suggest watching the re release video Paul put out with fans all over the world submitting videos while in Lockdown this gave the song an even greater appeal as we all felt like Joe locked away from those we loved at Christmas. I will attach the link for it below but have tissues handy. Ty for you reaction too this wonderful yet soul tearing song. Keep Safe Keep Strong 🦘🦘🦘🦘🎄🎄🎅🤶🎄🎄💖💖💖💖 kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIC6pX5sfb52iac

Really? Because here is the official explanation of the song - Paul Kelly song How to Make Gravy to be adapted into a ... The 1996 epistolary ballad, released by Kelly in 1996, tells the story of Joe, a prisoner writing to his brother Dan about his instructions to look after his family at Christmas, and his worries that Dan and his wife might fall in love in his absence.

If you travel and live around Australia for years at a time, ( I grew up living on different state and territory airforce bases ) you get to hear all the different regional Australian accents. You can even tell where someone is from, from the mix of accents at bases as they are typically out of their home region. I am from Perth which is considered the most moderate Aussie accent and typically where most famous actors originated from in the early days of television and film and the accent that, later, other Aussie actors and news readers adopted. I find Paul Kelly's broader, but not real broad, accent something that most Aussies find they can relate to as they also can relate to the many aspects of the many varied stories and emotions he delivers for our thirsty consumption. Paul Kelly delivers it ALL!
