How could you not love this song, it is so genuine and heart warming. Paul Kelly has a unique songwriting style that easily draws you in to appreciate what is good around him. He also has the ability with his lyrics to encapsulate the true essence of his country from its people, culture and landscape, like no other. That's why Paul is so well respected, also having received an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 2017 for his distinguished service to the performing arts. He's just an all round good 'fair dinkum Aussie'. Thanks Vakasa for your reaction. ❤😊🇦🇺

These were videos taken during the Co-Vid lockdown in Australia. The state of Victoria went very hard with the lockdowns for months. At one stage we were only to leave our homes for a short exercise period and to shop for essentials and were not allowed to travel more than 5 kms from home. It did pay off with a low death rate compared to other countries. The video of Paul Kelly and band was filmed long before, in the sea-side suburb of St. Kilda, in the capital, Melbourne, on a building roof-top. Paul Kelly is a Victorian and is a master poet of song.

This was made during Covid. Specifically showing people who couldn’t be with loved ones at Christmas. Paul did a brilliant job of putting this together.

Paul Kelly is folklore in Australia. Watch some more of his work. It's classical Australian. I'm a 62-year-old Australian. Born in 1961, a teenager in the 70's. Was way into Punk, New Wave, Alternative and Mod when I was 17. Now into everything.

Next on your list for MUST watch Australian Christmas songs is -- 'Biggest ever live choir sings 'Love Is In The Air' (John Paul Young) in Brisbane'. It is such a warm, fun and uplifting experience. Aussie Astrid Jorgenson arranges and conducts such choirs around the world. John Paul Young is an Aussie pop singer and this is his most famous song which also was included in a film. You'll LOVE it !

Gravy is real gravy but also "gravy" in Australia is making money or living large so it has a duality that some from overseas may miss if they don't have the same colloquialism. 30 years old and still holds its own.

I'm glad you enjoyed this. Paul Kelly is one of Oz's greatest songwriters. He has a unique ability to portray emotion with such simple lyrics and a very down to earth perspective, which forces you to see humanity in a different light. A short quick one from Paul with great lyrics which i think you would enjoy is "Careless". A couple of others which show his unique songwriting ability are "Everything's turning to White" and "Winter Coat". Also, "When i first met your Ma" has a nice story to it. Ok mate, love your channel and your attitude. I hope you have a wonderful X-mas and all your loved ones are well.

This is such an Aussie classic. It’s such a mix of emotion; bittersweet, longing, remembrance, happiness, togetherness. Makes me cry both sad and happy tears. ❤️ and as @necianicholas2827 said I think you’d really enjoy the story telling in the song and the story behind the song ‘From The Little Things’.

A song without a chorus. If you make substance abuse a medical problem and make all drugs legal it would remove the black market from the equation.

Thanks just watched your reaction our aussie classic that has become Gravy Day here every 21st December. Paul Kelly was asked if he would do a song for a Christmas Charity Album for the Salvation Army naturally he agreed but the song he wated to do was already given to another artist so he asked if he could write one. He had the idea of someone not being able to be there Christmas Day but longing to be with the ones he loved, and the rest is history. Since it's release this has become such a powerful song for Australians and when the pandemic hit we all became Joe locked in our homes so Paul put out the word online for fans to send in videos and he had it edited into this masterpiece showing us all doing our part to keep all safe. Keep Safe Keep Strong Merry Christmas from OZ 🦘🦘🦘🦘🎵🎵🎶🎶❤❤🎄🎄🎅🤶

By the way, just a comment on your justice and legal system in the USA compared to Australia. For a starter we do not have the death penalty, secondly very rarely is a life sentence imposed, only for heinous crimes. Drug possession for personal use in Australia is a misdemeanour meaning at most a fine. We have very strict gun laws. Mostly farmers and gun club owners can own guns and they must be registered with the government and stored in locked safes at home. We don't have mass murder and rarely gun deaths in this country. Might be an idea for the USA.

Australia's greatest poet. His music is all aussie heart. BOb Dylan won a Nobel Prize for literature but Paul Kelly is better imo. John Lennon is another. Paul writes about Australia, our history, love, relationships & politics "Making Gravy" is a euphemism for making money. "I'm gonna pay 'em all back" is paying everyone back for getting in trouble & he's going to make money Perhaps Joe stole money?? Kelly wrote this about the time Pentridge Prison in Melb was being closed. It was infamous for muderers, robbers, & the site of Australia's last prison execution. Graves there are unmarked.

This version was repurposed for the Covid lockdown when Aussies overseas couldn’t get home because our national courier which a conservative government had privatised had decided it was not worth their while bringing Australians home. My son was one. His contact in France had ended and it was tricky finding a flight before his visa run out but he just made it. I wonder about all those who worked bars etc. in London and couldn’t pay their rent; what’s their story? I liked this song the first time I heard it because it exudes so much humanity but I kind of resent this version because it lacks empathy for others
