I just saw your video ! Wow ! A lot of work went into creating this box set. It made me get my original 1997 cd out & have a listen. There isn't a song on it i don't like! I can't afford the box set but the photos & book look fabulous. I'm very unorganized. I took a photo of Allen Ginsberg years ago for a news paper & i don't know where it is. He let me take a separate Polaroid of him which he signed & i have no idea where it is either.

Wow, ............. superb. It's worth every penny with very nice photos taken by Linda. Looking at her photo one can see that she's a strong woman. I have so much respect for Linda, being Paul's mate with all nis ups and downs, leaving The Beatles, going to court to disband The Beatles, Linda being booed at first during live shows, always living in the shade of and the pressure on Paul. And still being Cook Of The House. A sad thing she passed away so young. They really a marriage of which you can say "they live happily ever after" Enjoy it.

I picked up the 3-LP box set. I already have an original CD from Best Buy, and the Oobu-Joobu disc (exclusively from Best Buy, that cost an extra penny when you bought the CD album from them) ... and all 6 UK CD singles that were released from the album. I just wanted the vinyl release, which was steep enough.
@nathanthomas51334 жыл бұрын
You could pick up the 3LP set for around £40 which doesn’t seem outrageously ‘steep’ for a 3LP set
@twostikks14 жыл бұрын
Nathan Thomas - I got it. 😊
@nathanthomas51334 жыл бұрын
twostikks1 yeah you said it was ‘steep’ - was just pointing out that it was only £40 for a limited edition triple - so not really that steep at all 😆😉
@twostikks14 жыл бұрын
Nathan Thomas - “steep” is defined by the individual. Since I collect a TON of artists, it complicates the issue for me. If I had the $$$ Warren Buffet has, it wouldn’t even be a blip on the radar. And now I’m eyeing up a deluxe issue of Tom Petty’s Wildflowers! 9-LP box set ... talk about steep ...
@nathanthomas51334 жыл бұрын
twostikks1 oh yeah I was looking at that too - but do you REEEEEALLY need the 9-LP deluxe set (or was it the ULTRA deluxe 9LP with the bag/necklace & stuff too 😆?) when you could get the ‘adequate’ 7LP set or the ‘cheapo’ 3LP set ?

I was very curious to see this box. I love the full picture that shows Paul with the guitar better than the close up used on the cover of the album. It is a very elegant set. Thank you for explaining just how costly it is to put these box sets together. It makes me feel better about all of the purchases I have made. I am glad that Paul gives us choices ranging in all different price points. I'd be jealous of you weren't so nice. Lol

Hi Mazzy, Just viewed this out of respect for you. The only way I can afford this is if I sell my house and car (I may be exaggerating but you get my point)... not happy with the people at MPL. Even as a massive Beatles and Macca fan. I will refrain from getting even the 1 cd version as a priniciple...and it is OK who gets upset with me. Not right with their pricing of his reissue box sets. I love unboxings, love box sets and I am not saying that he has to give it away at under $ 100.00. but 300.00-500.00or even 800.00 Canadian during a pandemic and economic crisis. Alas I digress. God bless and be well, Tino

You are absolutely right, I am a 63-year-old young man and I too refrained from buying because of the too high price. All those stupid text prints, silly notebooks. Wonderful Ram with those photos not to mention Wings over America.But after the prices started to go up.I stopped at Red rose speedway because I think it is a beautiful album, but that's enough

@@giorgiomadde3010 I am happy that I am not alone. If enough of us would refrain from buying and all those beautiful 800.00 dollar box sets would remain in the warehouse maybe some people would get the message. There is a passion, respect but taking advantage of one's passion and love for an artist is going over the line.

Tino Stabile none of you are alone and I totally understand your comments. It was partly why I approached this video is such an over the top snarky way. For me it is an beautiful art piece and most of the music can be had in the records or CD only editions. That’s why they limits these huge editions because there is a limited audience for them.
@tinostabile32564 жыл бұрын
@@mazzysmusic You make an excellent point.... well taken. I was in no way criticizing the buyer as yourself of course and I do see the archive in it. Thank you for your response. @nathanthomas51334 жыл бұрын
Tino, Not sure I really understand the thrust of your argument. It seems like McCartney has produced numerous versions to suit all pockets/tastes - if you just want the music you can buy a 2cd or 2 LP. You can buy the 3LP if you want home recordings too, or deluxe edition if you want all of that & ephemera like books etc (or even the collectors if you want all of that plus the prints etc). Not sure how offering multiple choices is ripping anyone off - if they had ONLY offered a $600 set then you might have a valid argument. I think of it like cars - Volkswagen own Rolls Royce - thus, the same company will happily sell me a VW for $20k or a Rolls Royce for $1 million - both will do the job & get me from A-B - is VW ripping me off by offering me cars from the same company at both $1 million & $20k ?? Re financial crash/pandemic this set will have been planned & put Into production long before all of that & the release was likely timed to fit in with other things (now delayed) that were due to be happening that would have helped support the release. “How dare they release a $600 box set during a financial crisis” seems like a weird argument - like complaining that jewellers are still selling gold & diamonds or that Apple haven’t cut their prices by 50% to ‘help everyone out’ during a crisis! 😆

Hi Norman. Greetings from Sydney Australia. Thanks for this informative, entertaining and at times hilarious video. Your perspective is correct. As a Beatles collector myself, I understand the desire to want to buy certain things but I am quite selective and of course limited in budget. So as amazingly OTT as this set is, it's way out of my league and I will be content with the 'standard' Deluxe Archive set as I have all the others in this format. The current price ($360AUD+) is still a bit much. No one is twisting my arm to buy and I will wait until the price drops somewhat, as I did with some of the more recent ones. I am a sucker for these sets, however I do wish Paul had stuck with the original simple book format of the first 3 Archive sets. The "Ram" set is where the format changed. It's deep box with additional 'bells & whistles' in the form of books, photos & assorted ephemera is nice and all. But it set a tone resulting in more elaborate sets with price increases. There was also a slight dip in quality with the "Venus And Mars" and "Speed Of Sound", because even though it was a slight return to the original concept, both sets suffered from 'warped' book covers. Having said all that, I could just as easily have bought the simpler 2 CD Archive sets, but I know I'd have not been content with those. So being a collector of this series is a double edged sword. Those that complain about these sets (myself included) will be aware that we have a choice to buy or not buy. As you rightly say, these are 'Archive' sets, so for Paul, these are a moment in time so the extra material is interesting. It's just a matter of how often we actually go back & delve deeply into these sets, beyond that initial moment of acquisition. Or do we buy, enjoy and then shelve them eternally? Sorry if I've been long winded. Thanks for reading this if you did. BTW I have liked and now am a new subscriber to your channel. I also rang the bell so ding, ding ding! Lol. Cheers. Stay Safe. 😎😎

Also, if people keep buying the sets, MPL are going to charge the highest they can. Why wouldn't they? If they can sell it for $600 why would they lower the price to $400? People think this archive works as a charity system, that it exists without a business side. Profit? What's that, right? Paul could give it away for free! Course I would love for it to be cheaper, but isn't that true to most things... If you love the content and you feel like you can pay for it, buy it. If you don't like the content, it's not worth to you that much, or you can't afford it, don't buy it. No one is holding a gun to your head. (The 2 CD edition is actually a pretty good offer, money-wise.)
@nathanthomas51334 жыл бұрын
H23 I used to work for a record company & these larger sets help hugely to subsidise the cost of the remastering & rereleasing etc. If no one bought the deluxe/collectors editions then you probably wouldn’t have any of these archive releases at all. So people who buy them are enabling others to buy the standard remastered cd/vinyl/download etc. PS the deluxe edition is in the same format/size as previous releases & priced a bit higher but not outrageously so - this is a special collectors edition which is in addition to the usual deluxe release & im assuming it was released as it was the last album his wife was around for and worked on re photography etc so he wanted to release a ‘super deluxe edition’ with her photographic prints in it as a form of tribute to her.

Nice video. A couple notes: the Linda McCartney prints each have a nice embossing of the Flaming Pie logo, the flip side of the Ballad of the Skeletons record is an etching of the skeleton drawings and the poster of the lyrics is from Ginsberg’s own hand. Lastly, I didn’t see two pieces that were in my box: one is another facsimile letter from Paul congratulating the owner for being a “groovy person” for buying the Collector’s Edition and a certificate from Miles Showell about the half-speed remastering. I hope you got these; they must be in there somewhere! At the beginning, when you were describing what an archive is, I was expecting you to bring in the Archivist for an explanation, as Woody Allen did when he brought in Marshall McLuhan in that movie line. Annie Hall??

Im looking forward to London town/off the ground/back to the egg remastered Boxsets...but since day 1 I've just got the 2 X cd versions...good vid mate

PM is always deep into roots and mindful of cultural history, it's why he got upset about the Lennon-McCartney billing. So it makes sense that he puts a lot into these archives. Good that these works of art are in the culture, because the culture is in a fkin quagmire. Someone might even argue that the high price of this edition helps keep the cost of the basic edition low. I dunno about economics. It occurs to me, since MPL can reasonably guess sales of the deluxe edition will sell out (not the art prints monolith mother you're opening), if they released twice as many they could reduce the price, make it more accessible, economies of scale and all. Some folk will feel less elite, but twice as many ppl would have it - - and its presence in the culture would be more pervasive. So I think the fab deluxe edition is overpriced. The one you just opened, well, I;d want a green double decker half-cab rear entrance destination Penny Lane bus with that, life-size. But I think McCartney's aesthetics are genuine, just as his claim as an artist is authentic. 20:55 Love that Ballad of the Skeleton fold-out. He was good pals with Ginsberg to the end and respected Ginsberg's own archive.
@nathanthomas51334 жыл бұрын
4-D Man Economies of scale rely on actual scale. The price difference between printing 3000 hard bound books & 6000 is negligible. If it’s the difference between 3000 units and 100,000 then you would actually have economies of scale there - but would they sell 100,000 sets? How many McCartney fans are there ? Not enough to sell 100,000 units.
