I'm old. I watched the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show and grew up with them as a part of major part of my music life. But this song, of all Paul's songs, is the best. It is so haunting in it's lyrics and melody. For all the songs he wrote (I named my daughter Michelle), this is by and far his best. Had he written this when the Beatles were together, I am sure it would have been one of their best sellers.
@JJJZANESVILLE210 жыл бұрын
Bruce, me2, It is haunting. I was born in 1952. Paul always seemed to be the most normal one. I think he truly cared about his bandmates. I know I cared about my work mates a lot. Good or bad, I loved them. Still love them. I love everyone.....wow, I am a sap.

I'm hoping you aren't referring to your baby/child. I lost my sunshine after spending the very best 17 years of my life. She was so beautiful kind, loving, generous, caring, would do anything she could to help a person in need, she loved old people and everyone she met loved her too. I could go on, but this was supposed to be about you. Please forgive me for rambling, but it's just that I have been of her 24/7, for 35 years. It's a long time to be without your best friend and the sweetest person you ever met. So, I hope your little lamb was "just" the sweetest, smartest pet you ever had, and I'm sorry that you lost her. I lost quite a few really smart, loving kitties.
@bipbop3223 ай бұрын
Oops! I meant to say that I've been missing her for 35 years and I don't suppose I'll ever see her again. Just saying those words makes me feel like someone is stabbing me in my heart. Anyway, I'll check back in a few days to see if you replied or not. You don't have to, but I've never written to anyone about this till now, and Little Lamb Dragonfly always puts me in a sad mood. But I think it's one of his best too! I can't think of one I like more right now, there's too many. Just like I can't choose my favorite Beatles song either. You'd think a 70 year old lady would have better things to talk and think about. music is the one thing almost everyone likes, so I try to find others that feel like me. Oh, have you ever seen and heard the "We All Stand Together"? Vide? Just put it in the search box, (We All Stand Together, Paul McCartney, video.) and make sure you click on the long version. Paul sure did have an amazing ability to write music and stories and...who knows what else he's good at!!

I was in the Navy serving with the marines (Hospital Corpsman ) when I bought "Red Rose Speedway" at the local base exchange. This is my favorite song from that album. Truly great with a wonderful melody. This song perfectly expresses yearning much like "Girl" by John. The Beatles were such masters whether on their own or as a group. We will never see their like again.
@mrfester429 жыл бұрын
+James Dunn Well said although... Girl also had a touch of the bitter along with the sweet to it. It's a great thing for those like yourself who realize that with both of them we are witness, in our lifetimes, to two towering artists roughly the equivalent to a Beethoven or a Stravinsky. I've heard a few out of touch people dismiss this idea out of hand saying that Lennon and McCartney don't compare with those other greats because their music is "only" popular or "pop" music. In their ignorance they don't realize that those other great composers were writing the pop music of their time as well.
@jamesdunn97149 жыл бұрын
+mrfester42 Yes, bittersweet is very decriptive when considering both songs, " Girl" and " Little Lamb/Dragonfly". John's intake of breath on "Girl" is very poignant. Yes, I agree as to Beethoven and other classical composers being the pop stars of their day. Absolutely true. John and Paul will always be well remembered for many things, but mostly I think for their music. Thank you for the kind words.

''Dragonfly, fly by my window, you and I still have a way to go Don't know why you hang around my door I don't live here anymore, since you've gone I never know I go on, but I miss you so.'' When I heard these lyrics I immediately thought of the love I have left behind me. I recently had a breakdown and since then I've been unable to pick myself up again (mental illness is something I've been struggling with for years) and these lyrics perfectly sum up how I have been feeling. Lover, you come around and I am not here. Mentally I am not present but this is temporary. This is something I was unable to summarise myself. Thank you Sir Paul for helping me in more ways than one.

Why would paul be lonely without a lamb, and how did two rights make a wrong since you've gone I never know I go on but I miss you so in my heart I feel the pain keeps coming back again. This two song combo and recording is way underrated, the arrangement is brilliant. People often criticize the "lala" stuff, but then they would have to invent another complaint wouldn't they? McCartney is often criticized by rock purists about being a too cutesy pop as a writer, but he shines in either genre. There's nothing wrong with this kind of pop... it's all in their closed minded head. Come on man, he did Helter Skelter too. Music is not a fucking contest, it's an art. But many have turned music into a contest because that's all they understand...sports...whoopie doo doo. What ever you have been spoonfed...The meaning of the lyrics are allegorical to any human condition of loss or estrangement. If you can't see that you're pretty dense and one dimensional. Get off the caffeine lol

"Little Lamb Dragonfly" is a song credited to Paul and Linda McCartney and originally released on the Wings 1973 album Red Rose Speedway. The song was originally recorded during the sessions for McCartney's Ram album in early 1971, and thus Hugh McCracken plays guitar on the recording rather than Wings' guitarist Denny Laine. However, Laine did provide backing vocals during the production work for Red Rose Speedway. McCartney originally intended to use the song as part of his Rupert and the Frog Song animated film project. Chip Madinger and Mark Easter noted that drummer Denny Seiwell may have assisted in writing the song, although he was not credited. - WIKIPEDIA

Surely a great song! ❤ I must say that I’ma real McCartney Wings fan. The best songs date from the period 1970 McCartney 1 to 1979 Back to the Egg. All these albums mean a lot to me and contain real beauties.
