Wow...Ya know, John just had a certain way with his chords/chord progressions that I'm not sure was seen in pop music before or since. Thinking about chords in Imagine, Oh My Love, Free as a Bird, etc...his chord progressions are beautifully hypnotic, where more typical pop chords are interspersed with these sudden, gorgeous ethereal minor, diminished, and augmented chords that just take ya somewhere. I mean this song is a gorgeous example of this...Lennon genius!
@hw3434342 жыл бұрын
Spot on! I always subconsciously admired John’s chord progressions, they spoke to me in a way. No I’m learning to appreciate consciously the way he builds cord progressions in such a unique and as you say ethereal manner. Reminds me a bit of Beethoven at times but in a totally different context

This is the first time I heard the demo I am shocked how much better, soulful and meaningful the original recording sounds/feels. The video from anthology was wonderful with its graphics and feel. Lennon was a metaphysical lyricist, his musical and poetic images are mysterious and sublime. His best songs are full of transcendent, sleepy, strange sadness. Stockhausen was also amazed at Lennon's modulations. It's a pity that the rock'n'roll era and John's rock'n'roll background pushed his main calling as a philosophical lyricist (although I love his furious rock'n'rolls).

I'm grateful John Lennon existed in this earth and reached his earthly death having achieved all he did. And through his grief and suffering, he channeled it and created so much. So much that his work and existence will forever be remembered. And I give him credit for falling in love genuinely and living by example. His willingness to be vulnerable, so vulnerable to write and say his heart and mind. Yoko gives credit every day for the light and love and access to a whole different world. He saved her. As he has no doubt saves and entertains millions of people. And always will. Thank you so much John. You affected me profoundly musically, and philosophically. You packed so much into your life, I reckon you knew you still had shit to overcome but don't we all. You won the battle❤️

I'm sorry, but I can never view Yoko in a positive light. John loved her, that's for sure. Yoko used John for her own advances. She, in my opinion, was the wet, dour blanket that smothered John's creativity. Compare any of John & Yoko's videos with Paul & Linda McCartney clips. Yoko virtually never smiles. Meanwhile, Paul & Linda are yucking it up, and having a grand old time in their videos. Linda complimented Paul, whereas Yoko stifled and inhibited John. Again, in my opinion, John's best album overall was Wall and Bridges, made during the "lost weekend" separation from Yoko. He was unshackled, and appeared to be the John we knew from 1964 (apart from the drunken embarrassments).
