This song, the last track on the great Band on The Run album with Wings.. flows into a reprise of the title track to end the album. The whole album was fire & was one of the biggest selling albums of 1973. Really can't go wrong with any McCartney related things in the 70's . and others later on.. Nice reaction as always..

All the best from SC, too! Just glad you both enjoy Paul McCartney! He just adored his first wife, Linda. After his short time in jail, they agreed to never, if possible, be apart again and she was in his band and endured great ridicule to be with him (She was a wonderful photographer, divorced, with one daughter when they met and then they had a family together.) As he told Oprah in an interview, "She was my Baby." with tears in his voice. I think you listened to "Maybe I'm Amazed." That was for Linda. Sadly, she died of cancer way too soon. I'm 67 and I've loved The Beatles since I was 8 years old. They earned their money by playing the music they loved, and they told where they learned it and who inspired it, what they built it on: the black music from America. When they had the power to, they refused to play for segregated audiences. I think they were good men who did the best they could, had good intentions, and kept learning how to do good in the world, so I'm proud of them, though they weren't saints! Bless you two and keep making your entertaining videos!

Paul McCartney was a very gutsy guy. After the Beatles Paul recorded an album practically all by himself Playing the different instruments and vocals recorded in his basement studio. Then he did something that I thought was total cool. Instead of playing Stadiums and just living off his reputation which many do he put together his own band and hit lots of smaller venues touring. Getting better and just being part of the band again. He earned the respect of the people living the life of a touring band.

When Paul had just formed Wings and no one had really heard the band yet, they were just traveling around the UK unannounced and they asked to play at my local University and amazingly they got turned down. What were The Student Union thinking?

Love this McCartney tune and video - such an upbeat, driving melody! So true Sherry and he learned much of that from his Dad and Mom. His Dad played in ragtime and jazz bands and many nights they would stand around the piano while Paul's Dad played and the whole family would sing-along to all the songs: Uncle Ernie, Auntie Jin, et al would come by and Paul would open the door and..."Let 'Em In...oh yeah!"

@@bobwoolerOriGinal Picasso's Last Words is an amazing song because of how it was written! While on vacation, Paul ran into Dustin Hoffman (the actor) and his wife, and they had dinner together. Afterwards, Paul was playing around on his guitar and Dustin asked if Paul could write something then and there. Paul said he probably could, and Dustin asked could he write a song about any thing at all? He found it hard to believe that it was possible for Paul to do that. There was a magazine there that had an article about Picasso's death and his last words. Paul used Picasso's last words and created a song right in front of Dustin and his wife. Dustin was totally amazed yelling "he's doing it!" So to me, that is a pretty good song to come up with it that quickly on the spot, which I think is FANTASTIC. I marvel at how ANY ONE can write a song. I know I can't. Could you come up with something better, if you are not a songwriter?

There were only three people on this record, not that orchestra you see in the video. The line is, the little lady gets behind. In other words he wants more of her than he gets. This is the end of the Band on the Run album which is just brilliant start to finish. And yes, Paul McCartney does do songs about substances sometimes.

This was on the B-side of the "Band On the Run" 45 record. My 13-year-old self bought that 45 because "Band On the Run" was a huge radio hit. I had begun taking piano lessons a few months prior. I found that I didn't care to listen to the A-side much, because BOTR was always on the radio. So, I thought I'd listen to the B-side, and I immediately fell in love with it, especially the piano hook and the crescendo. I wore out that B-side trying to figure out how to play that piano hook.

This was one of my favorite songs growing up, because when I was about in junior high The Beatles broke up and they all launched their solo careers as still very young man in their late twenties going into their early thirties. I loved this song so much but here's the deal ... It's almost becoming difficult to focus on the actual music in the reaction because you guys are getting so close to that day, I just can't wait. Also, worth pointing out, there were scenes from the shooting of the Band on the Run cover. That's where there is a search light shining on the convicts. Notable folks in the photo were James Coburn, star of the In Like Flint movies, and actor known for starring roles in The Magnificent Seven and The Great Escape. Christopher Lee, who was Count Dooku in Star Wars, Saruman in the Lord of the Rings and Dracula in Dracula.

Guys, you have to get the hang of the Beatles. This was about Paul's 3rd album after the Beatles, and one of the things about the Beatles was their song endings. They like to mess with it and bringing in the big guns (like a full orchestra) was definitely one of their favorite ways to end a song. In fact, the Beatles sort of gave other rock bands "permission" to do stuff like this, and other groups that picked it up were Queen, ELO, the Moody Blues, Elton John and others. This song was definitely Paul doing a "Beatles ending." That's a good way to describe how this song ends. And that little bit of "Band on the Run" at the end was just Paul winding up the last song on this "themed" album (another thing the Beatles like to do, as in Sgt. Pepper's and Magical Mystery Tour) by cutting back to the main album theme. See, you just have to have "been there" to understand that this is all the kind of stuff they liked to do. One other thing: You can't get too hung up on the lyrics, that is, finding the meaning of them. Lots of the time, they're just chosen because they sound good in the song, they don't actually mean anything....not always, but a lot.

Great video! The live video is from a recording session of Rockestra featuring Denny Laine ,Laurence Juber, David Gilmore, Pete Townshend, John Bonham, Kenny jones, John Paul Jones, among many others. Keith Moon was invited but died a month before sessions. Jeff Beck was invited but Paul pulled the invite because Beck wanted to have the right to pull is work if he didn't like it.

Glad you picked this because it shows some of the versatility he has in his vocals. After many years of listening to Beatles music and loving their harmonies and diversity in styles, I've finally started noticing and appreciating how many ways he sings on backup vocals. Not sure if I'm explaining this clearly, but I'm talking about the high pitched sometimes comical sounding or the shrieking (ie Let It Be) or other little riffs that would sound silly on their own, but add so much to a song filling it out to make Beatles perfection. As I get older, I'm finding myself not having a favorite Beatle or even song. Sometimes it changes.😀

George Orwell's novel, 1984, about a dystopian future was the flashpoint for Paul's song. He wrote about a love that is meant to be and nothing in the future will change that.

Been waiting for this one....I was a seven year old watching the Apple Records apple on the 45 rpm record label go around and round while this was playing....puts you in a trance. Who knew I would live past Orwell's 1984, Paul's Nineteen Hundred Eighty Five, Space 1999, Death Race 2000, 2001 (A Space Odyssey), the sequel 2010, and 2022 (Soylent Green) .... whew. As I have heard, Paul McCartney did make a song about "substance" (pot) when with the Beatles. It was called "Got To Get You Into My Life". He admitted it in his 1998 book "Many Years From Now" when he explained that it was not about a particular person, but his desire to smoke pot.
