Not so sure PM has the vocals/intro perfectly nailed, the original vocals from EP are so crisp, a little deeper and that vibrato is impossible to recreate. Love them both by the way and massive fan of their music and influence on all of us.

Bill Black used this bass early in Elvis' career when the trio of Elvis, Scotty Moore, and Black were billed as "The Blue Moon Boys", performing on the Louisiana Hayride and all over the Southern states, most notably in east 🇨🇱Texas🇨🇱....the "Ark-La-Tex". There are many photographes of Black playing this bass from 1954 through 1956. In 1957, Black purchased a new "electric" conventional bass....also seen in many photos of Elvis' last year of touring before going into the Army in 1958. R. I. P. True story. This bass originally belonged to Sid Lapworth, bass player and long time employee at the O.K. Hauck music store in Memphis. Bill Black came in and wanted a specific bass. There were none in stock, but Sid owned one and offered to sell it to Bill. Bill bought it and used it on his gigs with Elvis. Ultimately, McCartney bought it. I used to sing in a Trombone based big band in Columbus Ohio with Sid (who also played Trombone). This story was in his memoirs. Sid passed away a few years back. His stories were legend in our group. He also sold Elvis his first three guitars, delivering one to Graceland where Elvis opened the door himself, then showed Sid around. Sid also delivered a guitar to Johnny Cash's house and was introduced to 'Roy'. After they all shared some barbecue, Johnny presented the guitar to Roy... Orbison.

In 1954 Elvis and the B.M.B. we're driving thru Carlisle,Arkansas. Elvis T-boned a big truck, and Bill's bass fell off of the top of there car. The drivers were inspecting the damage and, they all heard "Twang" "Twang" "Twang". It was Bill playing his bass in the street, yelling "My Bass still works!"

Paul’s used this in various recordings. You can also see it in his video for “Baby’s Request” (Linda “plays” it in the video), Ringo’s “The Cooler” (Paul does a cameo as a bass-playing cowboy), and even The Beatles’ “Real Love.” So the last Beatles song was recorded using the Bill Black bass, further tying Elvis and The Beatles together.

Paul epitomizes so many great qualities: confidence, personality, story telling, wit and humour, life experiences, subtle wealth, shrewd investing (he owns this bass!), panache, to name a few, plus an off the charts musicality - singing, playing, showmanship, and so on. He is a singular talent and one-of-a-kind human being. NASA should be sending his image and his music into deep space so that one day aliens will discover the very best of mankind! Yes, I’m a fan.

I heard another story about that bass from the early days. Bill was driving to their next gig (DJ had joined them by this point) when they hit a bump, and the bass flew off the top of the car and rolled down a muddy slope. Bill jumped out of the car without putting it in park to chase after it, Elvis and DJ in the back seat woke up to see Scotty frantically trying to control the car from the passenger side as it carried on, driverless. (The bass was undamaged.)

I didn't care much for anything Elvis recorded after he left Sun. I mutter "yeah, sure" under my breath every time I hear somebody call him the King of Rock n Roll. Strangely, or maybe not, Elvis and his band never jammed with any other musicians. Why was that? Elvis and the Beatles on the same stage would have been a debacle.
