Don't kid yourself. Paul is a mastershowman and a master manipulator. I don't mean this in any negative way but it's a fact. He knows how to be gracious when necessary but he also knows how to be tough and cutting as well. He also makes it a point to hide his tough side. To have lasted AND re,ained st the top for over 50 years requires more than just talent. It requires tenacity, toughness and ability to fight back when necessary. I've read quite a few biographies on McCartney and they all say basically the same thing in that regard.

It's insane how much great music the Beatles recorded in just seven years. From 1963 to 1970 they released 13 studio albums. They are the best-selling music act of all time, with estimated sales of 600 million units worldwide. They hold the record for most number-one albums on the UK Albums Chart (15), most number-one hits on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart (20), and most singles sold in the UK (21.9 million).

It's a little known fact that the last Beatles song ever recorded was "I Me Mine" from the "Let It Be" album. Paul, George and Ringo cut it on January 3, 1970. Phil Spector ended up "Spectorizing" the song on April 1, 1970. John had permanently left the band around the time of the release of "Abbey Road" in September 1969. So the Beatles made music when they knew they had absolutely broken up. The sense I got is that no one ever said "we are going to make "Abbey Road" with the idea that we will bust up afterwards." But there was an unspoken agreement. But by the time Paul, George and Ringo were recording "I Me Mine," they knew the band was done. John was gone. They really should've just put out a statement in early 1970. It would've made things easier for everyone. The only reason they did "I Me Mine" is that they knew the music leftover from the "Let It Be" sessions would be released at some point, and they wanted that song included.

Lennon never did anything worthwhile after the Beatles? This is nonsense. He had the most substance of the any of the ex-Beatles: Imagine, Instant Karma, Happy Christmas, Give Peace a Chance, Mind Games, Power To The People, Oh My Love, Out The Blue, Beautiful Boy, Grow Old With Me, Whatever Gets You Through The Night, Steel and Glass, God, Woman, etc. Lennon's songs will be remembered long after any of the others!
@michaelconverse51277 жыл бұрын
They all ranted about it right after the break up. They had changed their tune a few years later and that includes Lennon. They pretty much all agreed it was like a marriage and divorce. A lot of anger just after that was eventually healed by time. All of them became friends again and none of them ruled out the chance of a reunion. Listen to Lennon’s interview with Howard Cosell as he was releasing Walls and Bridges. And all of them went on to very successful solo careers. All of them had hits as solo artists.

John wanted to leave because he was in love with Yoko and wasn't interested in being in a boys-only club anymore, and wanted to go in a different musical direction. George wanted to leave because he felt that he'd been held back for years because the majority of the Beatles songs were Lennon-McCartney songs and he wanted more creative freedom. Paul agreed to leave because he didn't like what the band's new management was doing with their finances and believed that he would be more successful on his own. Ringo had aspirations of acting and going into Hollywood, so he was okay with it. But more importantly, the four of them had all grown up and now had lives of their own and needed to move on.

I can take only so much of Paul but glad to hear what he said about America. As kids not born or living in America my friends and I felt the same way about the US. Glad to be here legally. God bless the US

Paul is a regular guy who also happens to be one of the most talented and famous. When he is in an interview like this he seems to be a favorite uncle. The way he articulates and describes things is the way my inner monologue works. I can relate to his Liverpool regular guy side.

It’s pretty amazing, achieving the fame that he has, he is someone that you could bump into in a bar, and think he was just an average bloke, he is grounded, he understands his fame, but tries to separate it from his personal life, kind of difficult to do, but he tries..

I once found myself driving behind Paul and his lady on I-40 east of Albuquerque one Saturday morning about 10-11 years back. They were driving a older Ford Bronco with New York plates (I think it was her car). I normally would not have been on I-40 on a Saturday morning, but was headed into Albuquerque for a work-related meeting. I am 100% positive it was them. I thought about following them but decided "nah, they probably want to be left alone." They turned north onto US-14 (Turquoise Trail) which goes up to Santa Fe. A couple days later I saw an article in our local paper that they had visited the Georgia O'Keefe museum in Santa Fe. Cool beans. (Paul, if you ever read this - you're welcome that I left you alone).

The stories always change over time. Paul said recently that it was unequivically John who broke up the Beatles.
@rsmith79125 жыл бұрын
My dad was ringo's chauffeur at the time of the break up of the beatles. He also drove lennon & yoko as well as all the other beatles. I was only 10 at the time but of course I heard what happened in my dads day when he came home and talked to my mum about it. She chauffeured some of them too when they needed an extra driver so beatles stories were going on all the time around me. Regarding as to what paul mccartney said, from personal experience, I can safely say that I totally agree with him.

@@markusmarkus7857 It wasn't boredom. John was besotted with Yoko & they were determined to go on their own mission which didn't include the Beatles, parental responsibilities & not much respect for others either despite all the peace & love.

@@rsmith7912 That rings true. The people who profess the most compassion for humanity are usually the first to make an enemy of you for not being as compassionate as they are. It's pretty apparent where John's mind was at that time. But I also can believe what Fred Seaman said that John was becoming more practical and less radical by 1980. There were many 1960s radicals who mellowed over time.

I don't think the Beatles story could've gone any better (other than John still being with us of course). They did it all. They did it in around 10 years. They symbolized 60's music. And then they all moved on and did so much on their own....each of them. That is a pretty spectacular achievement.

1:27 “I always think of that song ‘Wedding Bells Are Breaking Up That Old Gang of Mine.” Dick Cavett mentioned this same idea to John Lennon and Yoko Ono when they came on his show in the 70s.

I wish Paul McCartney had talked about the details of the breakup. The family thing makes sense. But it might have also been to do with John Lennon's psychedelia versus Paul's preference for love songs. I'll never forget listening to Paul's follow-on "Silly Love Songs" in a psych ward...

When Paul McCartney talks about the Beatles break up, the viewer can count on the words "full circle" being used sometime during the interview. And no one says those words like Paul McCartney.
