Thank you Andrew for this is s definite plus. Two comments I would like to make. First, I am so glad Paul included songs that over decades have been somewhat over-criticised, namely Ebony and Ivory. Ram and other albums have been reassessed for the magnificent albums and ground breaking territory they chartered. Some others have material, in my mind anyway, have been unfairly maligned. With Ebony and Ivory is a case in point. People calling it saccharine, simplistic, twee etc... We All Stand Together is another (although I didn't look hard enough to see if it was included in the book). Both these examples were massive hits and are still listened to today. Ebony and Ivory may be considered simple, but perhaps this is where individual prejudice comes into play. For each person who makes such a claim there will be another they could counter argue that perhaps this is the whole point. If we want peace in the is world just maybe we need to get back to basics and stop over-politicising and complicating what should come naturally. After all John sang Give Peace a Chance and not a manifesto. Yes I know he did more with the classic 'Imagine'. Besides this Ebony and Ivory has a beautiful melody and a killer hook. It is a well crafted composition of pure pop delight. As for the often named 'Frog Song' I have never understood why it is 'bagged'. For goodness sake it was written as a children's song and as such, especially with the superb animation accompanying video, it is an absolute winner. And for those older, or like me much older I can still enjoy it myself for it is a delightfully imaginative and such a sweet piece. In today's dark and gloomy world it is the optimistic buoyancy of Paul McCartney will need. My second point is to acknowledge and agree with Andrew on this views about the recent media lack of knowledge and respect towards Paul. The latest McCartney bashing seems to have hit the youtube airways in overdrive by individuals who have obviously either very poor knowledge of the Beatle or worse none at all. Many, not all of these people then default to the all familiar John could do no worng mantra. Anyone remotely a Beatle fan knows that John quit the Beatles first. It is a known fact and has been for decades. How can the modern media get this so wrong? A news breaking story,... what absolute nonsense. Again, sharing Andrew's point on the lyrics to a particular song. As he rightly points out the obvious,...only John and Paul would know and guess what? People can have recollections that differ. Especially over an 80 year period. Both John and Paul are geniuses and like every other human on the planet had their faults. However these were hugely overweighed by their brilliance and incredible chemistry. On the latest Get Back doco, there is a part where John smiles at Paul and says,...'in the end all we have is each other'. It is a beautiful tender moment where an entire book who never cover the power of the moment. A lovely coda to 'and in the end the love we take....' Recently on a youtube video I posted that John was the first to say he wanted to quit and that this is historical knowledge. I did not say anything negative about John or even imply anything even slightly of a critical disposition. John to me is a genius responsible for some of the most beautiful music in history. However, I got more replies from that one little comment than anything I have written online. Tragically most of the feedback was highly aggressive and most of it wrong. This has always been a difficult situation for Paul to balance and deal with. How can you tell facts from the past when the other genius becomes iconised and turned into a saint. Something Paul says John never would have wanted. Part of me wonders if Paul undertook this approach partly to avoid such horrid ridicule and blame tossing. Sadly due to John not being here with us we only have Paul to review and articulate his songs and the meaning they have for him. We can't blame Paul for this. This is one half of the best song writing partnership probably since the Gershwin brothers. This is the man who lost his best friend to a deranged murderer. This is a man that despite so many hardships, and yes I include Heather Mills in this, and of course the loss of the love of his live with Linda's passing, has always managed to keep going. Paul has maintained a positive and creative flow throughout his entire life and to be still doing so is an achievement in itself. I hope that this book, which Andrew has done a superb job reviewing, helps address some of the unfair criticisms Paul has had to endure over a lifetime. Sadly I feel the day we lose Paul a lot of critics will overnight turn into Macca fans. To those people I say appreciate everything McCartney has done for this world now. Read this book, listen to his interviews, watch John smile and say those words, remember John saying Paul is his best friend and let's all be grateful and celebrate the life of a living legend.

Two comments? Thank god you kept it brief! The day we lose THIS Paul many wallets will rest easy. For me now, Paul died after the Anthologies. He is just a money making monster since. Past 20 years, once or more a year he's been flogging us something. I've got all the Beatles output 4 times over. It's these past 10yrs where it's top heavy prices like a 6cd Let it Be special at over £100. Many young fans who love Paul are forking it out as they feel they must. Paul does a lot of social media selling & enticing. He captivates them & then💥Pow! he's got 'em by the short & curlies. It disturbs me, really does. What has happened to our cuddly Paul? He was happy with singles & albums & now it's all this stuff every year & big big prices. What's coming next year Paul? Send for Batman!

Yeah indeed! I saw too many comments about Paul being "disrespectful" for talking about John and the broke up. All we know (at least, the truly fans) that it was John and his motivation for moving forward with another things with his wife and, sadly, The Beatles wasn't important for him. Paul was acussed many years simply for announce he left The Beatles when all the members were so tired of being together but none of them dared to say it (Luckily, we can notice his truth watching the Get Back docuseries where everybody can notice Paul is the only one who want to keep moving forward and save the band). About Jane Asher, I think the same: it would be nice if she could talk about her experiences with Paul someday. Honestly, I know Paul is married with Nancy and he got married two times before, maybe, this' one of the reasons she doesn't want to talk about her experiences: they had a "short relationship" (if we compare it with Linda's relationship and his current wife) so, maybe, it can be a little bit strange if she talks about a relationship they had 50 years ago, i guess so. Wonderful video! You have an amazing collection! Definitely, The Lyrics is a must in whatever Paul's collection

I would guess that if the 86 version does get a new release (and I hope it does!) that it could be part of a Press To Play Archive Colection if one happens.
@TheSchemel2 жыл бұрын
@@AndrewDixonMusic that makes sense. Why did they put it on the 1993 Pipes of Peace Remaster though? That version has never been released in America
@AndrewDixonMusic2 жыл бұрын
@@TheSchemel That series of releases was renowned for putting bonus tracks in with the wrong albums! The original release as far as I know was some kind of multi-artist anti heroin project album, not sure it's ever appeared anywhere else other than that and the 93 Pipes.

Just a few questions for anyone who could answer. What the difference between the set with the green slipcase, and the one shown in this video??? And also, do you get the bang for your buck?? Please be honest and unbiased. What is the detail in the book? Any pictures, how long are the stories of the songs, etc???
@AndrewDixonMusic2 жыл бұрын
The only difference is the outer cover, the contents are the same. Personally I would say it's well worth it, especially at the price of under £50 it's often being sold for. Some of the stories are fairly short, and others much more in depth than you might expect. Some of the stories seem to be directly related to the song in question, and others are more around what was happening in his life at the time and the memories it invokes for him. There's a lot in here you won't have read before.

Would rather have had the Back to the Egg and London Town reissues. Price tag on the book is too high to tempt me to purchase. Maybe if this was volume one of his thoughts and recollections of all his songs to date and the price was about half, but for now I’ll save my money for musical releases.

Hi Andrew, I think I prefer the cover you have over the green cover we got here in the u.s. oh well. I skimmed through the book today and like the way it is done except I would have preferred chronological order instead of alphabetical but that's a small quibble. The thing that surprised me was the inclusion of ticket to ride. John had said that was his song and Paul's contribution Was the drum beat that ringo played. Overall a great addition to all the Beatles books that have come out recently.

Not the man I respected, not this man, love the music & the man I once knew. Paul did really die just after Anthologies. Sad, very sad. RIP Paul.
