I remember this playing on the radio in the mid 1970's as my parents would drive us to the beach every Sunday afternoon. I can still hear the start of the song crackle to life, the smell of seasalt, the view of beautiful blue water and the pure enjoyment of just knowing I was going to be playing in the surf and sand...Man i wish that would come back!!!

My favourite cousin died a few years ago. I went to visit her when she was on her deathbed and she told me "Did you know that every time I hear Band on the Run, I think of you?" She remembered, as clearly as I did, our amazing summers together, having fun, no responsibilities, swimming, hiking in the woods (to go smoke secretly), riding our bikes... And now that she is gone, well, each time I hear it I think of her. I miss you Julie. Thank you Paul for somehow cristallizing a magical period of my life in a song.

I started my over the road truck driving career as a professional truck driver in November 17th 1989. Out of all the songs that I listened to throughout my 32 years of driving coast to coast and Canadian provinces. This song has always been a constant on the radio as a companion to me either all day or all night. And when my driving days are finally over and I have left this world. This beautiful song will still be out there somewhere on a radio station out on the highway. 😌🚛🇺🇸

The first, calmer part of the song leading into the second act is SOOO good. I wish the first two parts were it's own song and the third part of "Band on the run" was it's own self-titled song.

Stuck inside these four walls Sent inside forever Never seeing no one Nice again Like you, Mama You, Mama You If I ever get out of here Thought of giving it all away To a registered charity All I need is a pint a day If I ever get outta here (If we ever get outta here) Well, the rain exploded with a mighty crash As we fell into the sun And the first one said to the second one there "I hope you're having fun" Band on the run, band on the run And the jailer man and sailor Sam Were searching everyone For the band on the run, band on the run For the band on the run, band on the run Well, the undertaker drew a heavy sigh Seeing no one else had come And a bell was ringing in the village square For the rabbits on the run Band on the run, band on the run And the jailer man and sailor Sam Were searching everyone For the band on the run, band on the run Yeah, the band on the run The band on the run Band on the run Band on the run Well, the night was falling as the desert world Began to settle down In the town they're searching for us everywhere But we never will be found Band on the run, band on the run And the county judge who held a grudge Will search forever more For the band on the run, the band on the run Band on the run (Yeah) The band on the run (Yeah) Source: Musixmatch

This is one of the absolutely greatest songs of all time, it never gets old - timeless. I was only 5 years old when this album was released so I do not remember exactly when, but the first several times I heard this song was on AM radio. I didn't know who sang the song but I knew it was special. It did not sound like any other song, it was mesmerizing.

The Bass on this is what gets me. Doesn't really kick in until half way through but carries the song beautiful
@douglasskaalrud68652 жыл бұрын
I think he got it just right. The first third of the song is subdued-almost melancholy and his soft, almost sparse bass line reflects that. The middle third is harder, a little more intense and his bass line takes a little harder edge. He lets the orchestra and guitar take the bridge into the last third unassisted and then he shifts into the more melodic bass line with the flow of the escape run. The song has three or four different tones and intensities and he supports each one ideally.

I would like to dedicate this song to my old pal Gary, together we broke out of Leavenworth. Gary got caught, he's in San Quentin now. Me? I'm still on the run after many, many years but it's no life for a worn out old man. Sometimes I think I should just stop running, give myself up, then I hear this song and I think, Paul's still running, he's still in the game and I've got enough left in me for maybe one more lap.
