I watched the series first and then learned it was a book and read it. I couldn’t believe how faithful it was on so many levels, and both tore me up inside. I lived that story in so many ways. To love a series enough to prompt me to read the book says something as typically I do it the other way around. I have now watched the series twice and plan to reread the book. I’m 50.

Normal People made me so sad, I could only watch like one episode per day. I even had to talk to my therapist about it. It hit so hard, more than I thought.

I’m scared to watch it for this reason 😭 Ive only seen clips. Movies and stories stick with me for years snd I’ll just start crying thinking about them. I really want to see normal people but don’t want to plummet into heartbroken sadness.

@@MA-zg2pz i totally feel you, i get incredibly impacted by things. but in saying that, i think you should watch it. its extraordinarily beautiful and perfect in every way, i watched it last year and re-watch it often and it truly has changed my life in so many ways. also by the end i was sooo happy, as well as sad, but its incredibly happy and heartwarming in so many ways! TW: life ending experience: i will say theres a trigger warning for suicide in episode 10, and topics cover depression around these episodes, so of course dont watch if thatll be too difficult :) but i do feel they handle this very well.

I LOVED Normal People, and a month or so after I watched it, I realized that my 58-year-old mom was also watching Normal People. It was crazy how a 20-something could bond with her mom over something like this but Normal People is so special on so many levels.

Olivia, I'm 60 so about your mother's age :-) and I found this show also very very beautiful. Everything was so perfect: the story, the cast, the way of filming so intimistic and sereen, just waaauw. A pity in my surroundings there seemed that nobody had seen this show or read the book. So I could not talk with nobody about it. I would have found it a pleasure to take about this story even with young people.
