I don’t feel like I only saw this show, I feel like I felt it, I lived it... when they fell in love, I felt butterflies in my stomach, when the grew apart, I feel like I matured and grew enough to understand it... to me, this was a perfect example for the power of storytelling, in a way I find very rare to feel. It is beautiful, congratulations for everyone involved

I don't want a lot of TV (or movies for that matter), but I'll never, ever get tired of watching this show. It doesn't even feel like acting -- it genuinely feels like being a fly on the wall of two people who are falling in love. I also think it truly shows the complexity of a relationship in the most honest and real light. American TV shows are always loud and dramatic and crazy, but this show is quiet and subtle, made up of all the small moments of life, and that's why it's just so damn good.

More books should be transformed into 1 season’d television shows, like this. Movies, I love em. But sometimes shorter episodes capture my attention more powerfully. I don’t know what it is! But THIS story. It needed to be shown like this. And I’m SO grateful 😭

I can honestly say that I never will forget Connell and Marianne. I first watched Normal People not long after it came out, and I only recently let myself rewatch it 3 1/2 years later. And my reaction was even more vivid and visceral than before. Going from 2 very different points in my life, and realising how much I related to both Connell and Marianne when I was 19 and now at 22, was so heavy and at the same time weirdly comforting. I don’t think I’ll ever love a show so deeply or so much. It’s raw, emotionally devastating and real.

This is such a beautiful show. The lack of communication between Marianne and Connell is portrayed realistically. Some parts of the show felt deeply personal to me which was comforting in a way. I still think about the ending quite a lot. "I'll stay. And I'll go. And we'll be okay."

All the sex scenes in Normal People are magical and while it’s normal for people to have sex all the time, the depiction of making love here was so intimate and less sensual, making us all believe that shoving yourself to your better half, is actually the way to make your bodies, come together as one. Sex plays an integral role for these two beautiful characters. Because in bed, they are not just Connell and Marianne, they are two people, sharing a deep connection in this chaotic world. And even tho they broke up and had it with other people, no amount of fuckery would equal to the amount of connection they had built. making love to each other feels a lot more different. That’s why we hear them all the time, mumbling, “it’s not like this with other people.” Because it was. And it is. As far as my eyes could see and my mind could comprehend, it is indeed, different when they stay in bed together. Quoting from the book, “For a few seconds they just stood there in stillness, his arms around her, his breath on her ear. Most people go through their whole lives, Marianne thought, without ever really feeling that close with anyone.”
@ElectriccLuv16 күн бұрын
Wow. So beautifully described, spot on. Exactly that, about the intimate scenes. It's certainly different whenever those 2 are on screen compared to anyone else. Intense chemistry.

This show made me realise as a 30 year old woman that I need to be more vulnerable and intimate. Even the sex scenes were so beautiful because it showed how their connection climaxed into this special thing. I have no idea where I was when I was 17 or 22, but I wasn't there with an open heart as these two characters. That is for sure. This show means a lot to me. It showed me what I've been missing all along and I am grateful for that.

Utterly brilliant. I watched it first off but not yet again, although I will after it has faded in the memory slightly. I say that because it is so powerful and poignant that it is still firmly rooted in my head after all this time like no other TV series or film ever has been. I am reluctant to run the risk of destroying the pure magic it conjured up when I first watched. I have never seen anything like it, nor any actors like Daisy, particularly Daisy, and Paul able to convey such emotions such as the depths of despair and unalloyed joy without actually speaking- merely by facial expression and demeanour. But I think that the main thing about it is its connection with many of us who are slightly more mature ( maybe a bit of an understatement), taking us back to what was, or what might have been, in our younger days.
@WENDEKAP4 жыл бұрын
Definitely watch it again! I've watched it four times now, and every time I watch, I notice something I previously didn't catch the first time. The things I didn't quite get the first viewing I was able to understand better the more times I watched it. Sometimes it was just something little, like a glance, an expression, or just a few words, but it had a bigger impact on the big picture. I wish they'd have more seasons, as it's the best thing I've seen in a long time!
@jaimehudson7603 жыл бұрын
This was a masterpiece. I studied photography, I know this means nothing in the grander scheme of things, however, since doing so, I find it impossible to just watch now. Well, this had me in awe with the direction of the photography/cinematography. I was going through my own personal troubles at the time, and this reminded me of my wife, my son's, the things, places, and people that I love. It was sentimental without being sickeningly so, there was enough sex scenes to convey the passion between the two without going too far, and enough heartache without being too devastating. I suppose this is why the book was chosen to be turned into a screenplay. Loved it!

My favorite scene in the show that differed from the book was when Connell apologizes for the way he treated her in high school( secondary school) Connell had to face her and be a bigger man. Marianne let him see her real tears. I liked that better than him apologizing in bed. He had no where to go or hide his face. These actors were superb and truly made the audience feel the emotions thru the screen. So real. It just breaks my heart because of the pain both go throughout their lives together and apart… it was just AMAZING!!!!
