This is my dream. I feel trapped in the west. Not much of a drinker or a party person so I could live on a budget. Unfortunately with the raging inflation and the way that the world is shaping up I don't think it will longer be an option by the time my retirement comes. I'm 34 now, I think you guys have lived in the golden age. Spring-summer so to speak. It feels like we are heading into autumn-winter now. Nonetheless, I'm happy that it worked out for you guys

Just for your information on this channel, you can still eat in Thailand for a buck 50 a meal easily. I love Paul’s videos, but he is exaggerating on four times the cost.
@Sammy-t8b10 ай бұрын
I would have to disagree with what he said about Thai people and Filipinos having different shapes and physical characteristics. I’m Filipino. Actually Thai and Filipino physically look the same. Sometimes the only way to tell is from the accent. Some Filipino look exactly like some Thai and some Thai look exactly like some Filipinos. They are like a mirror image but from two different countries and are not related. Also about what he said about Philippines looking like Mexico. Those are all the old areas that were built during Spanish colonialism. All the freshly built urban fabric areas look different. Subic bay looks like the States, made by the USA. Makati and BGC look ultra modern and unique to the Philippines and not Mexican looking at all. Just have to explore more.
@SpeakingofAsia10 ай бұрын
I think you might find he was refering to obesity when he mentioned appearance. We were discussing the subject before we began the video. As for the anology with Mexico, he wasn't refering to Spanish influence in building design but rather the eclectic development of some (not all) of the towns and cities here, the infastructure, the small roads and heavy traffic, over crowding etc. Having spent time in Mexico I know exactly where he is comming from. But you could say that about a lot of places in main land Thailand, Cambodia etc too
@Sammy-t8b10 ай бұрын
@@SpeakingofAsia hope he wasn’t putting anybody down for being obese. Is he not a Yank? The States is the #1 Obese nation on earth. Self love and self acceptance is the key
@SpeakingofAsia10 ай бұрын
@@Sammy-t8b No he wasn't mate, that's why he worded it carefully in the video. He just said to me that obesity was one of the first differences he noticed when he arrived here compared to Thailand. He also noted that when he went back in his most recent visit to Thailand he noticed that it was the same there now. People seemed to be bigger there than they were before. I guess it's the same in most places in the world now. But like I say he wasn't putting anyone down, he was just expanding on his initial observations when he arrived in the Philippines 👍

Speaking of Obesity one thing I noticed in PH was the industrial quantities of sugar syrup that is used in food and beverages. As a foreigner it is assumed that you like it super sweet and remember it’s not granular it’s a syrup.

What Paul says about the Car Business. (Finance or sales at a dealership) is almost always an unhealthy level of stress. No wonder Paul is a chain smoker. After 20 years of stress in the military, I admit that I CAN'T handle a high stress life at age 57. That's why I live in Dumaguete.. rent $300, motorbike $100, cable and wifi and phone all combined less than $100.. life under $1400 a month is STRESS FREE for me.

Some takeaways from the interview- Paul worked for 30 years in Car sales/finance and by his own admission he hated it. This resonates with my own theory that many of us do what we can do, not what we want to do to earn a living. This also explains Paul’s easy natural charisma which comes through in his vlogs. If you work in car sales/finance for decades then you must be friendly, engaging, charismatic with customers regardless of your true feelings towards them and this becomes an ingrained talent. Paul no doubt already had these talents but decades in the business likely honed them.
