I'm seein' my father in me, I guess that's how it's meant to be
And I find I'm more and more like him each day
I notice I walk the way he walks I notice I talk the way he talks
I'm starin' to see my father in me.

The best compliments I receive as sixty six year old man is when family friends tell me "you're just like your dad". Gone since 94, but I still feel him with me every day.

My friend, as you acknowledged, that is the greatest compliment! My Dad departed to be with the LORD in 2013, but I have felt his loss since. He was the one who taught me love JESUS. He was the one who taught me to be a loving and compassionate man. Since his transition, many people have commented how much, I look like him, but also act like him. Those are the best compliments I can receive!

Paul is the most underrated country music male artist of all time. Few of us can understand his music and the classic songs he wrote for Randy Travis. He is my all-time country music artist. It's May 2024 and I still listen to his voice. May God bless you, Paul

Cant deny his songwriting talent, but he did "steal" the music when he wrote "Diggin up Bones". He sampled Nat Stuckey's "Sun comin up" and did not want to give Stuckey any credit for it. After many years of litigation Paul finally had to pay up and was also forced to give Nat a songwriting credit for "Diggin up bones"

I just wish I had someone that knew how important my dad was to me we spent alot of time in the mountains together and we always talked alot. I really wish he hadn't died but sometimes I feel like he might have wanted it that way. In the end he wasnt happy and that was obvious. He had attempted suicide when I was 9 and he made it through but it did mess his face up a bit but I didnt care I knew he was still my dad and I didnt look at him any different. But after the attempt he was never himself again. My dad never cried I dont think I ever seen him cry before this but 1 day he walked in and said I think this medicine is making my depression worse and he was crying. I felt so bad for him after the attempt because I knew he wasnt happy he would still do some stuff but not like he use to he still functioned right and everything and he could talk perfectly normal and his face was normal for the most part but the gun took his nose bone so that was the only thing missing but he also lost vision in his left eye. I just really miss him more than anything and I wish more than anything that someone knew that he was that important to me. I never show emotion in front of people the only person I've ever really cried in front of is my mom. She will ask me what's wrong but when I mention something about school it dont even seem like she pay attention and she tells me to bring my grades up but I'm like do you not listen to anything I tell you? And she says yes but u need to try to bring your grades up. And I just say well if the teachers would try to teach us I would. Because the teachers at my school "teach" the lesson then their rhe work at tour face and if u dont have it dont by the next day they scream at you when u had 4 pages for each class and only 3 hours left of daylight when u get home. Now tell me that's not bullshit

My dad died last year when I was 19, he passed peacefully and in his sleep but completely unexpectedly. He was only 53 years old. He had his own semi truck and hauled all over. He was a sub contractor and at my father's memorial service, the owner of the company he worked under told me "your dad was the best driver i've ever had or seen." Now, I'm 20 and I work out of that same shop and I see dads truck everyday and every once in a while someone who worked with my dad will be talking to me and they'll say that whatever I just said sounded just like how my dad would've said it. There's no better compliment on this earth.

This is me and my dad. Almost everyone I know tells me I look just like my dad. And my dad is a legend. A navy lieutenant, merchant fleet captain, manager and business owner and loving husband and father. Now retired, enjoying his golden years. Growing up I was closer to my mom. My dad was always busy with work and had to deal with a lot of stress. Sometimes I felt like he didn't really care about me, but he did. He kept going at redline to provide for my mom and me. And the older I get, the closer I get to my dad. My dad didn't just give me advice in life, he even worked for me without pay. 6 years ago I started a small gardening/ cleaning business and I didn't have enough money to hire a secretary and accountant. I was doing everything, but I was burning out, stress was getting to me, I started drinking heavily. My dad stepped in. He did the books, he handled the calls when I couldn't, because of my day job. He did that for almost a year, until he was sure I was on my feet and could carry on. For his 60th birthday I did buy him a 5m fishing boat with trailer and an old pickup to tow the boat and it was a unique experience. I learned how much my dad really loves me. When I arrived home with the boat, he had tears in his eyes. I had tears in mine and gave him a big hug. We went fishing that evening, we didn't catch anything... but it was fantastic. My dad shaped me into the man I am today. Sergeant, car salesman, manager and business owner and loving boyfriend. Hopefully one day in the not so distant future, I'll be a loving husband and father too... just like my old man.

Love this song! My dad had alzhiemers and loved him so much. He was my first best friend. We shared a lot together, especially during his declining period. He couldn't speak much but watching his eyes light up when we came to get him. He and my horse Navaho had quite a relationship. Navaho kept him away from the water trough and the gates. We loved having him at our house and our lives. He was very special to all of us. When he couldn't/ wouldn't drink or eat, we knew it was time to start letting him go. He will always have a special place in my heart. Died in 2001 and seems like yesterday. When I miss him, I play this song. Thank you for sharing your talent, Paul. Hugs and prayers.

This song brings me to tears every time I listen to it because it shows me how much I’m blessed to have a father in my life who loves me and cares about me so much that I don’t know what to repay him for him being my father who has been there for me all my life even though at the age of 21 and he’s 64 years old nothing will ever replace him because I wouldn’t know what to do without him.

I don't know how I can relate to this song. My father wasn't around for the first 38 years of my life. I was rejected by him until we met face to face for the first time when I was 38 years old as I said. It was like reality hit him sqaire in the face. I have times off and on with him. More off than on. There are issues between me and him. Because of the rejection. It still happens today and it hurts. But I love him. He's my father. I just wish we could get along with eachother better.

I've never met my father. He died months before I was born. Never seen his picture, heard his voice or read his handwriting. Strange how this could be one of my favorite songs?

My dad is my fav person. I never thought I’d meet my best friend without even searching. Each day goes by, and his heart just keeps growing bigger and bigger. My dad is so amazing. He’s the sweetest person you’d ever meet. He couldn’t hurt a fly, even if he wanted to. Unfortunately, he’s pushing 40, and I don’t know how much longer he’ll be here. Hopefully he’ll still be here when I have a family of my own. My children would be so blessed to have a grandfather like him. He’s always told me that I would always be his little girl, even when I’m 30. And I believe it. He’s a very wise man. And there’s not a single bad bone in his body. I’ve learned so much from him. He’s taught me so many things. He’s taught me how to be a man even though I’m his daughter. My dad is an amazing man, I hope my little brother and my future children grow up to be just like him. My father and I are literally inseparable. Love you daddy ❤

I just found out about Paul Overstreet's "A+" musical and writing capabilities recently when I was researching a song he (..and Don Schlitz) wrote for the late/great Keith Whitley, "When You Say Nothing at All". Paul has also written singles for several other country acts, including No. 1 hits for Randy Travis and Blake Shelton, as well as hits for The Judds and Kenny Chesney. 👍 🎸

I dedicate this song to my father and my late father-in-law. As a child, I favored my mother more in looks. As I've reached my early 40's, I see that I've begun to favor my father more. Even little things like the way we cough are the same. I'm also bull-headed and stubborn just as he is. My father is 83 and he's had three health scares in the past six months, more than he's had in all of his life. As we've both gotten older, I cherish every moment and conversation with him. He is the strongest man I've ever known. I can't imagine what life will be like without him someday. I pray for my wife who lost her father this year. She was a daddy's girl and my heart hurts for her. My heart truly breaks for everyone who has lost their father.

Lost my dear Dad to leukemia 32 years ago at the age of 65 and I still miss him so. Just glad he's not suffering any more and gone on to his reward. He was a very good husband, father and friend who taught me alot. Used to spend summers going to work with him doing aluminjm siding and other carpentry work. Soooo loom forward to meeting up with him again when this life is finished in this crazy world. Blessings to all.

Thank You so much Fred you were an amazing 2nd Dad friend and teacher. Daddy knew what he was doing asking you to make sure we were taken care of. You married Mom to keep your promise to Daddy.
