I think Danny's charisma is just as important to them as Pau. They all admit that Pau is the creative genius but Danny's stage presence is just amazing. This is my favorite of their songs by the way.

I like all their songs but there are a couple of things that turn this into my favourite song by The Warning. First the conversation between the good and the bad side of the character, the amazing drumming (the solo that Pau plays when Dany points at her is awesome) the guitar on the last part, the harmonies they do with their voices and I also like a lot the sound of the bass. This young women are totally awesome. Chapters 3 and 4 are extremely good. Thanks for the reactions.

The maturity of this band is rather remarkable. Everything they do sounds simple, because their arrangements have so much auditory clarity. But their songs are far from simple, great chord and key changes, great complementary grooves from all three instruments, but it's all in service of the song, so even their flashiest technical playing comes off subtle. So many great little licks on bass, guitar and drums that can go unnoticed on first and second pass.

And now, to what I've been waiting for: The next song is Dull Knives. So for this one, don't react to the Lunario show (it is great if course), but to the Hell and Heaven Festival show. That will give a different view of the band since it was a daylight, outdoor, big stage, big crowd show. Hope you'll enjoy it! Thanks for a great reaction, as usual.

Hey Paul! Welcome back and thanks for putting in the time and giving your honest assessment. However, I do want to throw a "few things" (chuckling at the absurdity of that in light of what I just wrote) at you as a bit of a "in defense of Daniela" caveat. Of course there is no denying that Paulina is a brilliant drummer, and about as close to a prodigy wunderkind of the drum kit as you can find these days. And QOTMS is undoubtedly Pau's brain child creation and she is the primary driver of certainly the story, but also the music compositionally. But Daniela and Ale also made key contributions when it came to arranging and adding wrinkles with their respective instruments, especially Dany who worked really hard in the studio to add some diverse and intricate guitar parts to these songs. While certainly not super advanced, and there is a limited amount of "shredding" guitar solos (you will get to them in Chapters 3 & 4 as the ride out solo in SS sets up the next song and beyond), Dany has really taken her skills to the next level since Lunario IMO. Unfortunately, I feel as though this Lunario show doesn't do the best job of illustrating demonstrably just how good Dany really is. However, it is still a great performance under the circumstances: 1) first time playing all songs in succession live as part of an 18 song set, 2) first time ever playing Chapters 3 and 4 live for an audience, 3) large, raucous audience in full voice making the experience even more intense for them, 4) the challenge of performing at such a high altitude in CDMX, and 5) a few other inconvenient technical snafus that occurred throughout the show. No doubt the night was incredibly special and the folks who were lucky enough to have attended say that nothing can really capture just how good it was, nor how intense the experience was from the floor of the venue. Considering the circumstances, the ladies nailed it big time and under the added pressure of an official album launch, but I get frustrated that this is the only go-to "pro" footage available to promote the band, especially when their private gig at the Whisky in late January was so fantastic and indicative of how far they progressed in a short time with respect to cohesion, ease of transition between songs (Dany really has since gotten dialed in with her Helix and controlling the flow of the show), vocal mastery of these difficult songs, especially The One, Stalker, Sacrifice and Sinister Smiles, and finally, the work that Dany has put in to augment her own playing with extra little details and augmentations (doodles we'll call them ;-) that she's added to elevate the songs. To me, the show in January really demonstrated, quite emphatically, just how good they can be with added practice and time, and what potential they truly have as musicians. You really should sneak in a peek at the one video that is allowed to circulate from that night, their cover of Metallica's Atlas Rise as it may give you some newfound appreciation of the work Dany is putting in to hone her craft. Here is a link if you want to detour into this before going to Dull Knives, or before Chapter 4: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJnLeGh7nqucr6M The Whisky show, their Patreon Anniversary show from their basement, and all of the live TV and radio station work they've done since January have brought them to a point where they are ready to conquer whatever live show opportunity that comes their way, starting with next week's head-lining gig at the Inferno Fest in Cabo. And apparently they have even more tricks up their sleeve for June's stage show at Foro Didi, and beyond. Now I'm not telling you that you are wrong per se, as some of this is a matter of taste and personal preference when it comes to the vocals, not to mention you understand the technical side of playing guitar far better than me. But I fear we have done you, and most importantly Dany, a disservice by putting all of the "analysis eggs" in one basket with this one performance. Because looking back, it's obvious Dany wasn't at her best that night and her vocals sound strained and she flirts frequently with getting flat in difficult sections of the songs. And I think the altitude was making it difficult for her to stay connected to her chest voice as she seemed uncharacteristically out of breath at many points. So, once again, we must remember the stress of the lead up to this gig, and the fact that it is the first time she was under the spotlight to sing these songs live, not to mention that it may have been a struggle to hear herself over the din of a very animated audience who were cheering and singing lustily throughout. Anyhoo, to wrap up this ridiculous expository essay, I'm wondering if we shouldn't have implored you to do this type of analysis, a song by song reaction \ review using the actual album tracks so you can enjoy a better feel for what they were aiming to do with each of these songs. Not to mention so you can hear just how powerful and dynamic Dany's voice has become (Paulina sings higher for sure, but Pau admits she doesn't have near the range as Dany). Needless to say, now I can't wait for you to finish this "leg" of your journey and move on to downloading the studio album so you can blast it loud in your car or through your quality head phones to truly enjoy the sonic assault that is the Queen of the Murder Scene rock novel!! Thanks for reading my rambling stream of consciousness, if you made it this far. ;-) Cheers mate!

@@CrowboroughGuitarTuition Thanks man! I know you're a thoughtful, earnest guy and I figured you would appreciate where I was coming from with my extended "lecture" for lack of a better word, haha. But I suppose I could have just said that this live performance, albeit great, doesn't adequately exhibit just how good they all are, and that probably the only way to truly understand is seeing them live yourself. Ale's bass work is both intriguing and impeccable (and the sound immense) as she never seems to miss a note; Paulina is a levitating leviathan on the drums and you always expect something to break from getting pounded on so aggressively, and what can you say about her ability to sing with impassioned resonance while never missing a mark?? And last but not least, Dany is the maestro, with amazing stage presence that is getting better with every practice and performance. Each song she sings is imbued with emotion and dripping with passion now, especially since she has figured out how she wants to sing each track (inflections, intonation, sustains etc.) I didn't mean to imply that you were knocking Dany, but I probably should have focused more on her ability to multi-task within the show and the fact that she can sing so proficiently and powerfully while transitioning back and forth between rhythm and lead parts shows just how good she already is. Dany herself would admit that she's progressed a great deal since late last year, but she's probably had more time to put the work in and hone her craft since her schooling workload was a bit lighter in her final year, and now she's pretty much done after today! Last exam ever! I hope. Okay, enough of me, I yield the floor. :-)

Dany leads this band at the same time that she plays main voice role and plays that guitar. Dany has the ability to trasmit with her voice all range of emotions. I think you could replace Pau and the band is still The Warning, but you cannot replace Dany, as you cannot replace Axel Rose and slash from GNR. For me, Dany = Axel + Slash. I obviously admire the 3 girls and my wish is that they stay together as a band for decades.

Your weekly reactions are anticipated with eagerness and many of us would just like to have a beer with you and talk music, specially The Warning 😎 As sisters they have their special chemistry and as from we see on Patreon, Dany is the one who pushes day by day. Pau is just immense energy...always. Ch3-4 will lift to crescendo and then slow down with Hunter and The End. Maybe you can listen a bit to Ale’s bass line as well as I think she is clearly above a typical bass player. Btw, Ale is the one singing in falsetto here in the chorus. Cheers

I love the band, and have since I discovered them in 2015. That being said, Pau, the drummer, has been the standout from the beginning. (I believe it was one of her drum covers on youtube when she was about 10 that led me to the band). She is the main song writer, I believe, and is the "engine" that drives all their music. And though I love all three girls singing, it is Pau's voice that I think is most versatile. She can do hard rock or a ballad with equal aplomb. All that said, it must be remembered that these are three teen-aged girls who have worked their asses off to get where they are. And they will continue to do so. They will only get better, and I can't wait to see what comes next.

I think Danis vocals are the strongest. On the album Danis vocals are incredible. Here maybe it's because she was singing most of the songs for over an hour that she sometimes didn't sound as good. Interesting....the first time I listened to Dust to Dust I thought that it would be better with Dany singing! But of course Pau is a great singer too, and she starts most of the TW song. I think that ALL the three forms a great Rock Power Trio and their talents result in one piece. Dany has a very peculiar and full of passion way to sing, and she is a great Front Woman. And the chorus of this song is FANTASTIC!!! Alejandra doing the high part (falsete?). Love these band!!! And I am from the 70's!!!

Sinister Smiles is one of the songs I referred to on an earlier video, where Paulina felt she had a chance to shine, a little more then on other songs. That you picked her out here, specifically, tends to show me she was on to something. I'm struggling with myself not to rush to the other girls' defense, but this is Pau's moment. One of them anyway, she has a lot of moments.

I'm going to start by saying that I respect your opinions 100% whether I share the same opinions or not. After all, they are YOUR opinions. Also, my friends tend to forget that you are reacting to your first listen, and capturing that on video for people to enjoy. Yeah, we tend to get a little defensive if something comes out sounding a little negative, or elevates one sister above another. In your defense, for my first couple of days of my exploration of The Warning, Pau was the one that caught my eye first, so I understand where you are coming from there. However, as I listen to their music on repeat, I start noticing little things that Ale is doing underneath it all on the bass that sounds really interesting to me. (My opinion) Dany's voice is actually phenomenal. I know my friends have given you the lowdown on the altitude, fatigue and stress of putting on their biggest show to date when this was recorded. One other thing to keep in mind when listening to this album is that Dany is singing to express the emotions of a woman as she goes through a total psychotic breakdown. Her focus is less about hitting good clean notes and melodies, and more about conveying that this B*** is out of her ever loving mind crazy! Pau is portraying the more sane side of the same woman, and Sinister Smiles is basically a conversation between her good side and her crazy/evil side. As a result, Pau's vocals are cleaner and more melodic here. I get that you prefer Pau's vocals, and she is an amazing singer, but I would not be able to choose who the best singer is between those two, actually the three of them. Ale has a tremendous voice, but she is reluctant to step into the spotlight to sing, and is quite content to let her sisters do the heavy lifting. From an instrumental perspective, Ale and Dany have a lot left in the tank compared to what you've seen so far. They have the ability to "show off", but they don't necessarily write their music with that in mind. I am actually highly impressed on how good they can make their music feel without having to make it overly complicated, just to prove they have the technical ability. I was at the same show my friend Roylynn Wall mentioned, and I can assure you he is not exaggerating. I was outside during soundcheck, and when Dany belted out Crimson Queen, even through concrete it sent chills through me so hard my knees almost buckled. In fact, that show was so good, I'm flying down to Monterrey to see them again in June simply because Pau uttered these words during a FB live stream. "The show at Foro DiDi is going to be bigger and better than Lunario". Yeah, that sealed it for me.

It's nice to see someone put down my thoughts in writing once again. The girls different voices complement each other rather than compete with each other. Pau sounds more clear and give the impression to be more suitable for slower ballads while Dany has a more classic rock sound in her voice and that is great for many of the songs in this particular album (where she is meant to sound close to pshycotic when singing). The difference between them was clear already back in 2015 if you listen to Free Falling (Dany) followed by Escape The Mind (pau) on this link: open.spotify.com/track/5hWw8pN8ze2qiRw6Kz1MXz (Being swedish it's natural I suggest Spotify). :D Just like for you I was only interested in Pau when I first started to follow them back in July 2013 but after a while I came to realize how much they all contributed to the sound. Dany was really great on her guitar and Ale was filling the sound picture perfectly with her bass with hardly any errors. In a way it's sad that Ale gets much less attention due to the fact her sound normally isn't meant to stand out as much and she does not sing as much. I think we all hope this will change in some of their future songs because the one who write the song can control this. The video of "Atlas Rise" at Whiskey could really have been a lot cooler if they had skipped the "over head" camera on Pau and instead used some material of TW - Gig Videos (Unlisted) for that same song. We know Pau can play those drums and want to see her face while drumming (and not the top of her head). ;) Ale was really rocking it out in that version. i.imgur.com/ikmen5I.jpg

If any one of the sisters were to leave there would be a huge void. What goes on within their kindred hearts and minds is a triple dose of creativity and performance, we might not know which one of the girls benefits the most from that. Pau's exit might be irreplacible, but I do think that at any given time Dany or Ale could go into hyper drive!

Liked the reaction, as usual...I agree that the drummer is the strongest element...I do feel the bass player has a nice sound and contributes nicely to the rhythm section...music never has to be too complicated, sometimes simplicity is a positive within a song structure. Great review Paul, I like your style ! I think everyone initially falls for Pau's drumming and not often heard voice. I'd believe that she'd do more but she is the drummer. She simply tires herself out in doing both. Each of the girls gets their own parts, even Ale's falsetto is a dynamic here in the song. I do believe Dany puts in far more in her singing in her parts in trying to be more vocal. Like the last few songs where she was trying to be soft and quiet and hard and emotional in one song. Either way, I believe it is the combination of all the voices that brings the story up to the front of this song. Dany's lead, Pau's resounding, and Ale's falsetto just adds to all three at once ...

Pau is a powerhouse but don't sell Dany short on singing - for example, kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZjFhI2lg9GHna8 As for the story of this song, the girl is having a conversation between her good and bad sides. It’s performed as a duet between Pau as the good side and Dany as the bad. The bad side is taunting the good with her power but the girl is trying to be strong. The girl even starts to threaten suicide (probably in the tub, hence the “stain the water” lyric) but then the evil side joins her in singing that part - so does the evil side want suicide?

If I were to remove my fan hat, which I admit takes a herculean effort, there are weak things about this show, in particular, that bolster your observations. I will point out a couple of things, for which I hope I am not expelled from TWA. They are behind the scenes, and a bit in the weeds, as it were. I bring them up as points from which, and with which growth can be had, and improvements made. I am not about to excuse them, but offer them as points of information. That sounded way too lawyer like, but any way, here I go.....vocally, I believe Dany was running out of gas at times during this show. There were planned breaks for her, where Pau sang lead, to give her a rest. Two factors went into that. Altitude was the first. This show was in Mexico City, and the high altitude made it very necessary to be on top of your breathing technique, and there are obvious moments where Dany lost her technique, but was able to recover it (thats a mental thing imo). Second, this was their first attempt at playing a full-on headliner length set. They played for an hour, and forty five minutes with no intermission. Previously, they had played forty minutes max. I would also point out something not commonly known. Ale came into this show on fumes, physically. Immediately afterward, she was put on doctor ordered rest, as she had worked herself into exhaustion (for some reason 13 year olds need more sleep than normal humans 😂). Now my fan hat is going back on. This show completely blew my mind, and I am overwhelmed by the show this band puts on. Every time they step on stage, they deliver. This show was in November of ‘18. I saw them live in January, exactly two months to the day later. Every one of the things I brought up, the band had worked on. They played an even longer set, without a single loss of focus. Their energy and stamina was shockingly good. What I saw with my own two eyes, was world class. If any of you ever get a chance to see them live, run to the ticket office!

In this concert they added almost 60% of their previous recorded material in between the chapters for the audience to recognize the songs they already knew. That’s why the concert was so long. (We will have to ask for Paul to be honorary member of FB TWA UK & Ireland as soon as he has reacted to all songs 😁)

Every single show they do there putting 110 % of there energy you could compare there show to a soccer game somewhat . They aren't leaving anything behind so yeah they get winded especially Pau playing the most difficult instrument and add the Broadway show antics . In time they will learn even more if they want to conserve energy... if they want to

Welcome to "side two." I agree that Pau may be the strongest of the trio, but I believe not way above. I think two points may be overlooked. Before I bring them out I have to ask "how does anyone think about uploading a video in the middle of Avengers Endgame?" By that stage of the movie one would think one is so engaged that there is no other world around. A bit of levity. Back to my points. These three sisters amaze me in their talent as a group. Each one has a different part and each one brings a special element to the group that the others don't have. Missing any of these elements and the magic quite possibly goes away. Together they are a powerhouse. You wondered how the other two would manage without Pau on drums and I totally agree with that point, yet one has to question how she would fair without them. Although way more quiet Ale sets a great cornerstone to the group and I believe that matters to Pau's sound. I'm going to have to disagree with you on Dany's singing. I love her voice and how powerful it is. More importantly is in the way Dany engulfs herself into the character of what she's performing. If she's speaking from the first person she practically becomes that person. The spirit of that character comes alive and she shows it in their live performances. She brings an element of passion that is overwhelming compared to Pau. Her energy is equal. Pau's drumming is incredible. Love to see your opinion on it. She is the real deal. Not an average drummer to be certain. One thing these live performances don't do well is allowing the intricacies of the background music to be recognized easily. In the studio recordings of these songs the guitar work is woven into a unique wall of sound that energizes the songs. It's the blood of the songs, if you will. As I listened closely I started to notice and realize Dany is an excellent musician with a true feel for the fabric of their work. A part equal to Pau's influence. Just as in this song, the two feed off each other. Separate that and it's like unplugging the machine. It stops. Crimson Queen is another great example of those two together. I think after the break Dany showcases just how powerful her voice is. We will always have our own preferences to what we like. Yeah, you know Pau's a good singer, but I feel it comes more naturally for Dany. I do believe them getting a vocal coach would be a great move for the young ladies. Their vocals are good, but seem to need some refining. All and all I really like your reviews and how you present your thoughts. I wish I could sit down over coffee and discuss these things with you. I would walk away with a better understanding about music as a whole. Thanks again for doing these.

Being kind of the opposite of the usual great-guitarist-with-backing rock band, may help them stand out. More of the same, won't make you a star. A band needs a driving force, a center of attention on stage and Dany handle that role perfectly. She also got the best possible backing in her sisters. Ale and Pau are like a tight machine that never fails. 👍

I kind of agree. XXi was surpisingly strong musically, while qotms sounds more scattered. Like the work of turning a story into a row of good songs was a very big task for the girls. I've seen written that the they had big of problems with some of the songs. The idea is great, but it may have been to early to turn it into an album. Freddie Mercury actually used years on Bohemian Rhapsody before he thought that song was ready for the studio. ....and hey before someone kills me, its actually possible to bee a fan of The Warning without thinking everything the girls do or say are just so mind blowing fantastic. 👍

You know, I'm not entirely sure how people can listen to only a song or two at a time... I mean, when I first discovered the band my initial reaction was just simply lack of interest from what I had saw (Survive at TedX). But I soon listened to more and more from them and by like the 2nd day I had heard everything off XXI Century Blood and Queen of the Murder Scene, and then Escape the Mind soon thereafter. I couldn't stop myself from listening on... Haha. And now I've probably listened to each individual song 100+ times each at least in the 2 and a half months I've known of them... 😂

Lmao I also prefer Pau’s voice to Dany’s voice, although it all depends on the song. And Dany has gigantic lungs, I think with even more stamina than Pau’s (but then again, Pau is also drumming, which uses more energy than playing guitar and is harder to do while also singing).

Paul said he preferred Pau voice, that's something different. But I don't think the recording and mixing from Lunario make justice for Dany's voice. Her voice do sound much better in other live recordings. This is slightly similar to that streamed facebook video (cant remember the gig) that had a pure mixer-output sound. It made Dany's singing sound pretty bad.

jbarty party, can't remember, but Dany's voice had a so much reverb and level that it sounded like she was singing in another room than the band was playing. I'm sure it sounded great on the PA in front of the stage, mixed with room acoustics and the direct sound from the stage , but the recorded mixer sound alone sounded pretty awful. These Lunario videos have in my ears slightly the same thing going, It's like Dany's voice are mixed to be loud and clear in the sound, but It somehow also makes it stand out in a bad way.

Just FYI... They do have a vocal coach, and are constantly working on proper technique. They told us that in an interview not too long ago. Unfortunately, the altitude thing did have a major effect on both Dany's and Pau's voices at this show. They both sounded strained where they normally wouldn't be. In my opinion, these videos should not be used as a basis to form opinions on the vocal abilities of these ladies. Very good for overall presentation, song writing, musicianship, etc., but not vocals. Both Dany and Pau have had considerably better performances, vocally, in other videos.(not that I think these performances were bad by any stretch) I suppose I'd start with the studio versions, and then check out the other stuff. The Dakota videos come to mind first. Great reaction nonetheless! Thank you for it!

Paulina is a force of nature. I consider her to be the engine of the band. Her energy, and will power are infectious. You could not play next to her, and have a flat performance. If you watch their early videos, Pau jumps off the screen. Her sisters are catching up to her, and though I do not see your comments as negative towards Dany, and Ale, my first reaction to them was to bow up against the comments, a bit. (I am biased towards being fanatical after all 🙂). The distance they have come, in such a short time, is truly remarkable. With every show, they seem to get better. As to the song, I would rate Sinister Smiles in the top 5 of the album. Glad you liked it. Although the story continues to unfold lyrically, this song melodically jumps right out at you, and Pau reasserts the rhythm section into the fore. Ale does a very nice job carrying the melody, while pushing the rhythmic drive. Dany is slowly evolving the vocal, in an attempt to portray the emotional state of character. Thanks for the straight forward reaction, and again, glad you liked it! Looking forward to Dull Knives. 🤘🏻

@@GundogJake Exactly. It helps them stay tight, but it's not an absolute necessity. In fact, they recently said they have a couple of songs that have a time signature change in the middle of them. As a result, with each measure, the 1 beat actually shifts on them near the end of the song. Start on 1 on one measure, start on 2 the next, then 3. Seems like the click track is more of a detriment than an aide at that point, but they just power through.
