Thanks so much for this series. As a pastor who works in a nonprofit, I don’t get funding for continuing education. I always feel like I’m getting free college credit when a Craig Keener video releases! Merry Christmas.

Love Dr CK so much I bought his backgrounds commentary and the Cultural Backgrounds Study Bible. Very helpful for teaching a church class on Feasts and Fasts in Luke/Acts. Thanks and joy and peace to CK.

Spock was also my hero. In elementary school in the mid 70s, my friends and I played Star Trek on the playground at recess. I was always Spock.

Where might I find more info about Hebraisms in Matthew?
@ShaunCKennedyAuthor Жыл бұрын
The Gospel of Matthew was originally written in Hebrew, and the "He will be a Nazarine" works in Hebrew because of that. There's an interview on the Brave New History KZbin channel that talks about that.

The CURRENT Gospel of Matthew was written in Greek, but it does draw on earlier sources, one or more of which may have been in Hebrew. There are actually more Semitisms in Mark ...

@@CraigKeenerPhD Thank you for your reply, Dr. Keener. I'm a big fan of your work. This is one minor, unimportant point where I disagree with you. The Greek Matthew is a translation from a Hebrew original. That there are more Semitisms in Mark is based on the idea that the Greek Matthew is Matthew. If it was translated from Hebrew then the original was an entirely Semitic document. I'm always open to discussing my thoughts on this in more detail with anyone that's honestly interested, but it's not very important. While I honestly believe that progress in any field is made when all thoughts are open to discussion, you are working on things that are much more important than this. I could go on for 20k words or several hours on this. In fact, I have. I would enjoy every moment of going back and forth on this with anyone, especially someone like you who I know could show me where my mistakes are. But I don't want to be a nuisance and take you away from more important work any further than what I already have just for my own minor improvement on an unimportant matter. You control the conversation, Dr. Keener. I will always try to keep any responses to you respectfully short, and at whatever point you decide you are not interested in pursuing it further I will completely respect that.

@@ShaunCKennedyAuthor Thank you for this. Yes, this would be a great discussion but there are so many other things going on that I can't keep up with that I woudn't dare try! Keep up the good work!
