Just watched this video hoping to see someone I know, to my surprise my mum came into shot all wrapped up shopping with her trolley. Very poignant as it’s her birthday today and this should have been her 100th birthday. 🥰. Mum died in 2008. Thank you for sharing with me this unforgettable snapshot of her shopping in the indoor market hall. 👏👏

2000 was the year I moved to the US with my soon to be American wife. I still miss my friends and walking to the pub on a Friday night and I will always be a Stockport kid. I used to live in Offerton and I've walked hundreds of times the path that this film takes....very hard on my emotions right now Anyway...hope to get back soon to enjoy a beer or two in the Gardeners Arms in Offerton. Cheers all. JRB Canton, Texas

Thanks for posting. I was born in Stockport in 1962 and moved South in 1989 so, mathematically, I'm a southerner (Just kidding ..No Chance) Stockport is, and will always be, "home" though. My home turf was Offerton/Heavily (Finger Post, Emmigration, Gardners, The Strawberry Gardens). My Stockport haunts were the Manchester Arms and the Bakers Vaults. I can probably still walk from Offerton to the Market blindfolded. Hopefully the developments I've seen on KZbin will put some life into the Market and Underbanks. Such amazing locations, that would be the hub for great bars and restaurants in a wealthier town. I now live in South West France and planning one last nostalgic trip "home", to visit as many old pubs as possible (if they are still standing).

I used to go to the markets with my Dad in the 90's. I loved heading into Stockport back then. There were some really interesting shops. Then when i became an older teenager in 2000 i'd head to the clubs at Grand Central (i've forgotten what they were called). Left the UK in 2003 and haven't been back.

Watching that made me sad but happy at the same time. Sad as its no longer like this and happy I got to see it all again. I'm only 39 but seeing that was great. Some great shops I used to go as a teenager

2000 seems like yesterday to me but watching this makes it seem like a lifetime ago. No more outdoor market, barely any shops worth spending money at in the indoor market. Lots of those shops have disappeared now. The pub on the fish brew has gone. My friends parents had that pub in the 80s. I'm sure it was called something like Hole In The Wall. That doesn't sound quite right though. Can anyone remind me what it was called please 😊

Thank you so much for this video Paul. It brought back many happy memories for me. Pity that 90% of the shops have now closed and we don't have an outdoor market anymore, although they still put the "best small market" sign out on market days. Historical Market?.... they are joking. I totally agree with your remarks about the River Mersey. It's always been a disgrace and now with the new development and opening up the river they are going to have to do something about the mess and stink. I for one don't fancy sitting by the side of it having a drink and something to eat. This Council needs shooting!
