My mother chose to continue letting her boyfriend make my 8 year old life hell. He broke my emotionally when I was 13. Family violence is a hugely unreported. Many adults suffer from CPTSD. Needs to be in DSM.

I have empathy for the circumstances behind my parents' failures of courage. _But_ I wouldn't necessarily stop short of judgement for how their courage failed at critical moments, and how they enabled terrible things to continue past many points of no return.
