Paul Washer preaches from 1 John about Assurance of salvation in Jesus Christ alone. A true Christian looks only to Christ with regard to salvation, not in anything with himself. The book of John is written so that people may read this book and believe. 1 John 5,13 - "This is written to you so that you may know that you have eternal life." The assurance comes from the Word of God, and The Holy Spirit will give assurance based on the Word of God.
Recording from the conference "Back to the Word of God" at Holmavatn Mission Center in Rogaland, Norway on January 26, 2014.

Paul washer was the first true preacher that God led me to back when I was first converted. Oh how he broke me. And oh how much assurance he gave me that I was indeed in the faith. I cannot thank God enough for leading me to this man. 6 years later I've probably listened to every sermon he has ever done and I listen to them still to this day. Then came John piper, and then voddy Bachman. They also led me to many more small men of a great God, men of the past. Charles spurgeon, Leonard ravenhill, David Wilkerson for example. Praise God!

+rocky baudoin Your comment - "Also Calvinism was not created by John Calvin. He only believed and preached exactly what the bible teaches. Calvinism is the Gospel of Jesus Christ." My comment - You are ignorant in regards to the roots of Calvinism. John Calvin's doctrine was heavily influenced by Augustine of Hippo who is one of the main founding fathers of Roman Catholicism. Calvin's obsession with Augustine is evident in Calvin's "institutes of the christian religion" where Calvin quotes Augustine over 400 times. Calvin's 4th book of his "institutes" has 20 chapters devoted to Roman Catholicism. Calvinism is the gospel of Satan using the Bible through the lens of John Calvin where Biblical passages are taken out of context and eisegeted. There is a world of difference between plain Scripture and Scripture that is tainted with the error of Calvinism. Colossians 2:8 - Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

I’m gonna pause at 31:23 & just have to comment.. how much of a deep sigh of relief that I’ve now been taught that Christ is at work in my life.. the contractions of “am I saved, am I not saved” have destroyed my confidence in my salvation through Christ. But it’s because this sanctified process taking place in my life. Because I’m saved, I’m seeing my sin so clearly and torn apart internally about it. That the sign of the spirit at work inside of me is evident & im so thankful about that. Thank you Paul for the clear teaching and giving me the wisdom that the spirit is at work in my life. Okay time to resume the video!

@sharper110 You mentioned a lot of verses that can also be interpreted differently; falling means falling in sin. To fall into sin does not mean you are not saved (anymore, or such). It simply means you sinned, just like Peter denied Jesus 3 times and still remained saved. Remember what happened: the Lord Jesus looked him in the eye and Peter could not bear that and went out and cried. In the end, he was not lost and did not fall away. Those who fall into sin will be put back on the right path by God, because He will not allow any of them to fall: - John 10: 28: I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. - 1 Peter 1: 4-5: to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5 who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. - Isaiah 42: 3: a bruised reed he will not break, and a faintly burning wick he will not quench; - Philippians 1: 6: And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. These verses show that salvation can never be lost. Not because we are so perfect that we do not fall away, but because God is faithful to keep His children saved: - 2 Timothy 2: 13: if we are faithless, he remains faithful- for he cannot deny himself. Once saved, always saved is based upon the fact that God is faithful to keep His children safe and, if the fall into sin, He will take them out of that sin. If salvation was based upon us and our works, we will most surely be lost. We can not save ourselves. That is why we are totally dependant upon Him. The assurance of salvation is based upon God's faithfulness. For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” (Romans 10: 11)

Lordship Salvation spawned from Calvinism. One false doctrine breeds another false doctrine. The "Jesus" of Calvinism/Lordship Salvation is not the same Jesus of the Bible. I was born into the wrong religion, which denies that Jesus is God. I encountered Jesus in 2017, and since then, everything in my life has changed. And every moment, every day of my life, I desire to learn how to live a life pleasing to Him. The more I know, the more I discover my hidden sins, and the more I find out my sins, the more I feel blessed and joyful because every time I repent, I can feel the forgiveness and mercy of God on me. I know that Jesus paid for all my sins. My siblings are still in the wrong religion. I shared with them the gospel of salvation and how God changed me. They rejected me. When David sinned and had been rebuked by Nathan, he penned down the Psalm "Create in me a clean heart O God.." In it, he pleaded God to "restore unto me the joy of my salvation." So, sin actually rob us of the joy of our assurance. It is repentance, conviction and sanctification that allows us to experience the JOY of our salvation.

Yes but that was a serious sin. Sins that were so bad that David called them a breaking of his bones.

The Joy of whose Salvation? Read Psalm 51 again. As the Apostle Paul said in 2 Corinthians 5. the love of Christ constrains me… it isn’t my love for Christ. Rather it is His Love for me. Keep going on, brother as the power of Christ empowers you.

@@DavidSmith-jh6yv Yes and thank you for abasing me. I just re-read Ps. 51. Some of what I would say may or may not pertain the way you want it to, but here is this from an old hand at reading the psalms and one who had committed adultery in my youth. Eight points I wrote down. God has shown me many things about David's sin with Bathsheba, but some of his utterances are too high for me as a non-Jew, and one not skillful in handling the word of righteousness ( for I have a little milk once in a while) though God has promised in I Jn. 2 to teach us all things. I find in David's prayer here similarities with Paul's utterances in Rom. 7. I have gathered that David committed a mortal sin requiring death--Pr. 6-- but that Paul's delivering Christians up was done in ignorance and in unbelief. The death D had to suffer was that of his son, but P. Had to be beheaded, though he had ceased from all sinning at conversion. This brings up the ? of whether David continued sinning after he was judged severely. From verses 1-5, he names every definition of sin in the book, and owns them all. As a man still after God's own heart (as I suppose), his desire was to please God if he got delivered from " blood guiltiness"--vs. 14. In the N.T. this kind of sin is seen in I John 5:16--as the sin unto death. What body of sin D. was speaking of in vss. 1-5 and 14 got remitted, but the question is whether the old nature ever got passed away in O.T. times like it is in the Christian--I Cor. --5:17--. Some Jewish scholars say D never sinned after that traumatic event (s), but his death bed prayer reveals that both his pre- conversion sins and his having been upheld by God's free spirit--vs. 12-- had ongoing results. But the Spirit did not endue O.T. saints to the extent of what is given to the body of Christ. For the Christian there is no need to have the soul restored, though we may go through the motions for the sake of others. Much of what David as a king/ priest of sorts had to say was due to his making intercession for others. I found his hymn/ statement about being washed white than snow curious because I have been to N.Y.C. and seen the winter snow turn to black slush in just a few days. David, like all sinners, had wandered out of the way of understanding in is foray with Bathsheba and the cover up. One filled with the Spirit and baptised in Jesus' name cannot wander so. Finally, I would say that anyone who has God's free Spirit upholding him has to realize that man is not the free moral agent he thought he was. Thanks again.

Why would I go 5 years not bearing fruit? I gave my live to Christ 11 years ago. I didn't repeat some silly prayer. I mean I cried out and begged him to save me for two days straight, and he really gave me peace within my soul. He saved me! Sadly, I spent 5 years not putting him first. Last year, I came back to him, and he let me know that I still belong to him. I couldn't see myself bearing fruit at all during those 5 years. Even people around me was telling me I wasn't bearing fruit. Because of this, I have been doubting my salvation. However, I see myself growing in faith stronger than I have ever been throughout the entire 11 years. Now, people around me are telling me that I am bearing fruit.

Calvin edward Amen brother. I trust in him with all of my heart even losing my life for his name sake. He is everything to me. Like I said, the moment I gave him my entire heart to him 11 years ago, he saved me! I know I'm saved because his spirit bears witness in my soul and I am not able to run from him. I know that I am saved because Jesus is my witness. As someone who is shy in nature, I would not had ever confessed ''I am saved'' if it wasn't for him telling me to. I turned from not putting him first and i hated myself for it. I know that he has forgiven me.. Even to this day, I am repenting

Calvin edward On September 4, 2004, 6 days after my 18th birthday, Jesus saved me. He gave me a new heart with new desires. On September 2, 2004, I was very sad thinking about how much Jesus suffered. The thought occurred, ‘’out of real love, Jesus died for my sins.’’ Then, I chose to believe this with all my heart. Then, the thought came to me, ‘’I must give my life to Christ and forsake my sins. I don’t have to live in guilt any longer. I have nothing to lose, but everything to gain.’’ I responded to that, ''yes lord, please save me.’’ I remember crying out all day the day afterwards, ‘’please lord save me’’. I even tried telling other people what I was wanting the lord to do for me. On September 4, 2004 I had already forsake what I know to be sin, and I started begging, ‘’Lord I can’t save myself, I’m lost. Please save me.’’ Standing where I was, with a shout, Jesus filled my heart with love. For the first time in my life, I felt like I was saved. I walked outside and everything was glowing! I was able to sleep that night with a smile on my face. I kept being reminded: ‘’Jesus loves me. I’m saved.’’ On September 6, 2004, I told Satan ‘’leave me alone, I belong to the lord,’’ and I confessed what Jesus had done for me. Then, I was baptized the week after. As a new convert, I remember feeling his wonderful presence in the most random places for many months afterwards. All I could think about was the love of God. I've shared this testimony with many unbelievers including some professing Christians, and they tell me that I experienced hallucination. Then, I read in Matthew 7:6, ''Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.''

I grew up in a Christian home and was saved when I was around 12. At 15 I fell away for a period of about 7 years. Had a girlfriend who I was with for most of it and we ran around with each other, drunk most weekends with our friends. I knew she was the one I was going to marry so I did after around 4 years of sexual immortality and living together. When we got married God called us back after we were married, got us in a very good and gospel centered church and completely changed our lives. Things are completely different than they were, no more drunkenness, porn addiction, nicotine addiction. But most importantly we have Christ at the center of our family and as our main focus. I struggle with the assurance of my salvation I had when I was 12 because of how long I strayed from the path, this message has helped me to understand that if I wasn’t saved when I was younger, the change has happened now. I believe God started the work in me at that age because he has always been a guide in my life and I’ve always recognized Christ as my savior, but I DID NOT listen to many of my convictions. Thank God for guys like Paul washer and others

This is how the unsaved qualify for assurance. The saved base it on the finished work of Christ as being enough. John 19:30. The unsaved, like Washer base it on themselves and their own filthy, prideful works and will drop into hell having come short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23. Matthew 7:21-23. Galatians 2:16.

You people haven’t heard a word he said. No ears to hear and blind as bats. You are the ones with the itching ears looking to suite your own needs. Keep going after your and own interests and find out where that gets you. “Those that try to save their lives will lose it, and those who give up their lives with save it” The EVIDENCE of being saved is good works and the DESIRE to do them. If you think you can live in rebellion with God by habitually sinning you will find yourself hearing this: AWAY FOR ME YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS, I NEVER KNEW YOU!

One does not simply tack Christianity on their life and call themselves Christian and become Christian. One who becomes Christian has to be transformed (make changes in their life). Jesus calls out those who proclaim they are followers and do not change their habits in the Bible. When you are born again sin feels despicable and that is something to avoided. Jesus told Nicodemus in the book of John "one must be born again". That does not mean call yourself a Christian because you celebrate holidays, that means fight against your personal urge to sin at all costs. (take your cross) It means taking disciples and spreading the gospel as Christ commanded. It is not easy to be Christian and that is why it is called the narrow path... That is why Christians have Testimony (stories about how their lives have been influenced and even changed by Christ). It is not enough to say you are a Christian because talk is cheap and God deserves way more than talk. We are saved by faith in Christ alone yes but if your life or your actions do not reflect your faith then are you really faithful?? The Bible is very clear on what Christians must do (1st Peter and Collossions helped me a lot). I do not consider these things to be works (taking disciples, preaching the Gospel, taking ones cross, helping the least fortunate, etc) but to be fundamental practices of a Christian who is building their faith.
