The first thing I did when I bought a Jam single was play the B side. Nearly wore this out the day I got it. Fantastic song, fell in love with Liza Radley and the song still brings a lump to my throat.

I went to see Weller once in Liverpool and Steve White fell ill not long before showtime so Paul did an acoustic show and basically took requests. This was before he was doing shows like this and playing Jam stuff. It was incredible

This song is about Weller himself, having a dream and pitying the people who don't have one. Also about wanting to escape from a narrow minded small town.

Paul Weller... The prince of melancholy. Paul Simon... The king of melancholy. 2 miserable bastards who I never want to meet. 2 geniuses who may never be surpassed.
