Sublime music. You’ll never understand the weight of this song until you’ve wandered around Minneapolis on a bone chilling day, half drunk, unemployed, and alone.

“Here comes a regular, here goes a career.” No man has ever epitomized the working man’s daily struggle than Paul Westerberg. I found this song because of One Tree Hill when I was in high school. I felt this song and rediscovered it currently going through my mid 20’s. I don’t know about anything else, but I know when I’ve had a day and I feel alone, this song is my “cheers, drink it down for a better day tomorrow” song. ❤ rock on folks 🤘🏻

The reason I love PW's songwriting is on display in this song. The line, "I used to live at home, now I stay at the house" tells a whole story of a relationship in less than a dozen words.

To be honest anyone with any taste knows this is one of the greatest songs ever written. It was, in fact the very first I learned to play and sing at the same time on the guitar, circa 1987 ... though I used to just play it G-D-C cause that's fundamentally what it is :)

This version kills me every time. At the end of the first chorus when he says “am I the only one here today?” I get choked up. The next time he changes it to “am I the only one who feels ashamed?” and I literally start to cry. This is genius songwriting. Devastating and beautiful at the same time.

His singing is amazing. He modulates all over the place - like a beautiful sour sound that never resolves so the looping can go on forever and it never gets dull.

He is my favorite singer, because he is all raw emotion. So much vulnerability. He feels every single note so deeply, and because he does, we do as well. No other musical artist moves me like this man does. His songwriting, his singing, his playing, his persona, all of it. He is a true genius, one of a kind. His honesty is both incredibly brave and incredibly heartbreaking. It remains unconscionable, criminal even, how underrated he is. But we know the truth. He is ours, and we are his. And thank God for that. Thank God for Paul Westerberg.

The Replacements came from an ethnic Polish Catholic neighborhood in Minneapolis. As Paul once said, "Drinking is part of life." His dad was a Cadillac salesman. At any rate, what a fine example of Paul's exalted writing talent. "Every day you're alive is a good day," Paul Westerberg (on Bob Stinson.)

Amazing song. Beautiful live version. Yes I heard it on oth, but I already owned it. I loved that the show was introducing youth to something other than the dance Crap that is everywhere now. Music used to have meaning. Stories. Emotion. Who cares where you heard it. If it caught an emotion from you, the artist succeeded in their mission.

I found this song because of that show. I’m my mid twenties it’s still a staple. It epitomizes the working man’s struggle trying to love everyone he can while also going home and feeling it at night. It did it’s job, and Peyton’s mom did hers by introducing a generation to his beautiful work. ❤

i can't imagine living in minneapolis trying to make it in a band. The thing is youth, luck and wanting it bad. Westerberg was a janitor and when walked home from work he listened to them jamming along the way home and fell in love with it. I remember people talking about this band and i was like who are the replacements. You can feel the heart in his songs. Westerberg is a genius at song writing.
