Was thinking that exactly myself. Ergo Sum is neat and all, but I’ve been locked onto Microcosm for how well it shreds bosses while my Warlock is otherwise built around AoE/CC. Not to mention the number of Ergo Sum rolls is absolutely dwarfed by the number of class item rolls on even a single class, let-alone spread across multiple classes if you play them.

I love the duo mechanics, but I'm lucky to have a Destiny buddy to do them with. We had a ton of fun with the Co-op focus missions. That being said, a 30minute activity is brutal when the perk pool is so large

I did the exotic mission 2 times now without mic and using fireteam finder while teaching people. My only problem is that having to always look for someone to play with whenever you want to farm it makes it so I'm just not going to farm it as much as I normally would

Yep great idea. We can already farm multiple Ergos per week via Overflow, so why not make Pathfinder something else? Plus there's already a cap on the Path rewards; once you reset a few times you just start getting a basic legendary engram, even though you're spending more glimmer to reset.

I think everyone needs to take a breath and stop being so hateful. A major chase item that was advertised as being farmable was the expectation. All that needed to happen was that Bungie either needed to be transparent about how it would be earned (because locking solo players out is obviously going to cause backlash, duh), or the item should have an alternative way for solo players to obtain it.

The mission is great and they should do more, I do not think the class item should have been from this activity. It’s a little callous regardless of being thematic. And I say that as a person that had a buddy for this and we really enjoyed the mission. But I don’t think it’s right someone has to pair up to get an item like this that enhances a new subclass. Any other reward would have been fine. They are giving away a broken sword for free, I don’t understand setting up a blocker to having fun in a sandbox in a potentially wide variety of ways. I also don’t think the class item made this type of mission’s existence possible. That is fundamentally faulty logic. Bungie can make a mission like this any time for any reason regardless of reward. Using it as a blocker to something fundamental like the class item feels mean to me. I think everyone should have this more generally in the pool. It’s the only thing that will make getting an exotic drop exciting again. That is a feeling everyone in Destiny deserves.

Very well said. Was helping a friend through the story missions for Prismatic fragments last night, and I got a random exotic drop. Haven't seen one of those in I'm not sure how long (being a pretty infrequent player), and I was genuinely excited thinking it'd be a TFS drop. Nope, just my umpteenth Felwinter's Helm. I've honestly never played a game that succeeded so well, for so long, at constantly sabotaging any sense of excitement from loot. Also when I do play, it's usually when a trio of us all decide to come back on for a new dlc or season. But since the only consistent farming method is the 2-man mission, well.. I guess fuck that third guy eh?

Yeah, exactly. I've played since 2020, don't have a single raid or dungeon exotic. The only dungeon content I ever did was the first encounter from Warlords Ruin solo and I've always been fine with not having the things from them. This feels like a bait and switch. Box feature, new, great pairing with a new subclass in a content type only less than 10% of players do. I'll just never get it and this time I'm a bit sad because it feels I was lied to and bothered by the extreme condescending from the "jUst uSe lFg omG yOu'rE bAd" crowd. Point proven, same reason I quit doing group content with randoms 15 ago in WoW and relied exclusively on my friends, none of which play Destiny, people act like animals and it only takes one bad apple to make someone not want to touch the game anymore. If it was the Ergo Sum in a mission like that, there would be no drama, just a cool mission for people who do them with yet another weapon 90% of the population is already conditioned to not expect to have ever.

The person i joined in fireteam finder was super chill. Their first run (they had watched videos), my first run blind. I basically led the run based on the vague description i got. Was very fun overall

I got 13 from over world farming, it takes around 40min, I think it's timed, I did a test where I AFK and then I ran for 2min and got one (need more data to confirm but I never gotten any back to back or af soon as I loaded in zone)

A lot of talk about Destiny being a MMO. MMO are inherently grindy. But once they've cleared the mission they want the loot handed to them. "Increase the drop rates". Can't have it both ways. Drastically increasing the loot drops would just hand people the best rolls. People are fine gatekeeping content as long as it doesn't affect them. Nobody is against having a mission with that structure. Heck, they could even have had an exotic weapon behind it. But putting the new exotic class items locked behind this is ridiculous. It was advertised as an integral part of prismatic and the final shape and some of us have very valid reasons to play solo or quietly. Some people have public lives that require 100% annonymity, some need to stay quiet to not wake up someone else, etc. This list of valid reason is pretty long and all those shortsighted enough to not understand that need to look further than themselves.

As a long term concept I had was this. The exotic class item is RNG dropped for an episode or part of an episode. After this you would be able to earn a craftable one that would allow you to unlock perks for that old one while a new one would be farmable with new perk combinations. You’d keep retiring old ones and adding their perks to the pool for craftable class items while farmable ones would be for those chasing the absolute newest items

This might be an unpopular opinion but I honestly like the chest farming. There’s an easy figure 8 you can make in the landing that gets you to all 4 corners of the map and the middle, and it’s nice to just have a video on in the background and zone out while I loot chests. You also get tons of legendaries, and I think you also get pale heart rep so that’s a bonus. I can see how it might not be for everyone, maybe they need to up the drop rate a bit, but it’s a nice thing to do for like 10-15 minutes when I don’t have time to commit to a full activity but I want to play some destiny.

As far as the structure leading to the mission it kinda sucks if you were doing the previous mission with a 3 man fireteam and have to kick someone to do the exotic mission. The mission itself is perfect, the reward however should’ve been something else maybe Khvostov or Red Death instead of the ways we got them. The class items should’ve been acquired a different way, since it was heavily marketed with the new subclass. It’s like ordering a burger but to get the fries you have to go to Idaho instead of the restaurant where you’re at because reasons 🙄 Easiest fix: change the rewards. Have the mission drop something else and have the class items drop from something else. Everyone wins and the mission itself stays the same except the reward you get. I hope Bungie listens to this, whoever made that call did it on instinct and didn’t think it through at all. I think they should do two things, first the class item should have the same chance as other exotics to drop from random exotic engrams. Second they should add in 3 weekly quests to the ghost where they give specific activities to do for the class item so for instance they may say do 50 waves of onslaught to get a class item and have new quests every week

I will say, from watching people go through the mission it looks great, Bungie did an awesome job. My issue is that they placed the exotic class items behind this. I know the argument of well this is a social game, so if you don’t want to be social don’t play. That is where I am now, I have decided to quit Destiny, even though I paid for the episodes, because I spend 6 to 8 hrs a day in conference calls with Vendors, Directors and executives at work every day. The last thing I want to do is to put on another headset and mic and connect with a random person, who you never know will run with you, and then decide after 45 minutes or longer to just leave. I have had those experiences and even had an experience in Crucible where my teammates worked with our opponents and kept reviving me to allow the opponents to kill me as soon as I was revived. Never to even be allowed to go to a respawn zone. This is a main reason I solo, but if the decision is my money is not as good as a social person, then I have no other option than to leave the game.

You mentioned being able to craft them in the video and I unironically think that's a great idea. It'd be cool to have a craftable piece of armor. Make it so you need like 7 patterns to craft it. Make it cost a lot to shape and switch out perks. Have your first clear of the week be a confirmed red border, with higher chances for subsequent runs. And have the random drops from the chests (ideally with a buff to the drop rates) have a lower chance. That way, if you play enough, you WILL get the roll you want. There's just too many perks for this to be just a random low chance drop

A hard part for a parent, is when you're only time to play is when all or most of the house is asleep, then mic/coms is difficult. Fireteam finder is amazing, but when most of your playtime is when "no mics required" is a must, this makes this mission very difficult.

The Pale Heart is great…but it will become tired. I just don’t think a funnel like this really works for loot. Diablo 4 made this same mistake with Uber Uniques already.

Fergusson made a great point in a recent interview. He said that people can no longer tolerate the grind they once could. They have a new mindset in which time is money, and it is scarce. I paraphrase. That's why the quickly learned their lesson and conpletely changed how the loot works. Bungie could learn a thing or 2, before it's too late.

My biggest issue with the mission is that there's no other reason to run it other than the exotic class item. If you get the one you want first try its a 30 minute run, if you get it your 45th try it took you 22.5 hours for the exact same reward. The mission doesnt provide Ghost rep or other drops and doesnt give red borders or previous season items like the other exotic missions, so the optimal farm is not running the mission and getting pale heart and gunsmith engrams, plus ergo sum, world drops, and pale heart weapons while farming chests in public overthrow. My other complaint about the mission is the repetitiveness, you do the same puzzle 3 times in a row, then do several segments of jumping, followed by 3 bosses, then with a mandatory extra 2 minute wait at the end to listen to savathuns dialog and do the whole choose peace or war thing. The mission while really cool the first time was not made with farming in mind.

I was talking to a friend they could make the class items a rare drop in ritual activities. Like 2.5-3% for strike chests and maybe a 1-1.5% for losses and 2.5-3% for wins in Crucible and gambit. Could also implement a increase in drop chance as you clear overthrow events. Have it increase until you get one or until you hit the cap drop chance. Then it resets the drop chance

Paul I'll be honest, you didn't get downvoted because you like the mission. You got downvoted because your opinions missed the point. Most people aren't mad that the mission exists or thst Bungie tried something new. They're mad about exactly what THIS entire video speaks on. The inability to readily farm it or acquire this pivotal new item is what makes everyone so upset. This mission couldve been for ANY other exotic and it would've been a sick idea that people loved. But Bungie locked a very hyped up new addition to the game behind it, with absolutely no warning to the players. So it was a bit of a slap in the face to solo players who were excited to farm the new exotic class item. It's not the idea of the mission that's bad, it's the implementation and specific reward for it that is.

Solo dungeon emblems are there because solo dungeoning is supposed to be an extra challenge, not an integral part of the game. Deciding to play this game without interacting with the coop experience is the definition of shooting yourself in the foot

I think what’s getting lost is the separation of reward and activity. Solo players aren’t saying that a quest like this shouldn’t exist. Like you said there are raids and such. It’s just the reward for the activity was something that was openly marketed. And normally when that’s the case it is attainable by all players whether solo or not. They don’t market the raid weapon as a selling point for most expansions as an example. It’s not the mission, it’s what reward they tied to it. They could have picked any exotic for this. I’m sure if this were the new sword (that again wasn’t heavily marketed until after release) no one would be all that upset. They should have swapped the quests for these.

I don't think they don't market the raid weapon because of some precedent they've set or because of some precedent it *would* set, they don't market it because they want it to be a secret. And I honestly think that a mission that literally can not be soloed would have caused outrage regardless of the reward. They could have put Red Death in the mission and we'd have people complaining that they can't get Red Death as a solo, and bring up the exact same "it was marketed" argument you are. I really just don't think Bungie is going to win with "you must have X amount of players to participate" activities, which is a shame because it's the best thing they've dropped in years.

You "could" totally make the exo-mission a solo mission. Just allow players to "swap" attunement and leave behind a shadow-clone so that you could activate both platforms this way. Also make you switch position with the clone when you activate the ability again (for last encounter to see the puzzle-solutions) Make this ability have a cooldown or time-windows, like "must reactivate within 15 seconds or the clone will dissapear" or something like that for the challange. Could work! But it would need Bungie to implement and change a whole lot in the engine lol. Maybe for Destiny 3 haha

Once you get a perk on the class item you can put that perk on a crafted class item. Now instead of getting frames to unlock something you have to unlock individual perks.

Yes, a solo mission can be done. It's called using a bot. Many have brought this up. We a;ready have missions that use bots, including 12-player mission

I'd be in favor of treating them similarly to how they did Exotic Armor before tfs, but with a twist. Have them drop from Legend / Master Lost Sectors, this way they are either farmable purely solo or purely duo. The only catch, they only drop on weekends, just like XUR.

My idea was taking your Ergo Sums to your Ghost for dismantling. Dismantle one Ergo Sum and you'll see what the first perk for exotic the class item will be. You can choose to dismantle there and try again if there is one specific perk you're chasing. You sacrifice a second Ergo Sum and see the full exotic class item. Then to purchase it you just need to give your Ghost some other material like a mote of light or something. So two exotic swords and a little extra material can give you an exotic class item and you have some control over target farming it. But I'm totally okay with the way the mission is right now

I honestly don’t have a problem with the duo aspect. Also got the runs down to 20 mins (pure strand/ stasis builds). Giving double drops would be cool. Just attach scoring like GMs. Reach platinum and get double drops. Far as comms, it’s still ppl who join Raid LFG with no mic lol. Add ppl who farm.

Keep the requirement to beat Dual Destiny to unlock the exotic, but after that I feel like you should be able to focus for it at Rahool or even at Ghost. Or like someone else said, add it to the Pale Heart pathfinder. Or maybe add the class items to Xur's inventory, and you can buy one per character per week. I don't know, I just feel like solos should have more options for farming. The mission is sick and I hope the backlash from solos doesnt discourage them from doing more things like it in the future. But if I want to lock in for three hours and grind my face off for exotic class items, I can't always get a friend on who is also down to do it, or someone from my clan, let alone a random off Fireteam Finder. I even think it's fine that running the mission over and over with another person is the best and most efficient farm, there just need to be more options for people who don't want to do that though.

Enable the ability to lift perks from exotic class items and add them to another. If you get two items, one with a perk you want in the first column, and another with a perk you want in the second column, be able to swap perks onto one or the other so you have one item with two perks you want. If that's too easy, maybe need to have two exotic class items with the perk you want to swap them into one.

I just want to point out that this is a "box feature". It's not some random thing that wasn't advertised, this is one of the key features of the DLC. And they've cut it off from a not insignificant percentage of the population. This isnt out of character, Bungie has despised solo and socially anxious players since forever. I got really excited about the Exotic kiosk where you could farm currency and pickup raid exotics, but then discovered you had to raid to get the pathetic amounts of currency. Also, I've been playing D2 since it was released on Steam, bought all the expansions and seasons, the 30th Anniversary stuff and so on, and I've never, not even once, managed to reach the soft cap on the one character I play. So there's a whole litany of weapons and armor that everyone else has ready access to dozens of different rolls and I'm shambling along with the one set of Masterwork armor I've managed to cobble together and the handful of weapons I can actually use. So, yeah, you'll please forgive me for being a little bitter that a Box Feature is locked behind an activity that I will not be able to participate in. *edit* And don't even get me started in the thrice damned "weapon crafting system" when my RNG on red border weapons is in negative numbers and I've got 4 patterns unlocked out nearly 100 and one of those I fucking paid for with that expansion.

If you want the sword you just have to make sure you go to the daily matchmade location to guarantee a drop, btw. Just saying that if you were bummed out by not getting Ergo Sum specifically, there is always a way to go get one in something like 15-20 minutes.

You can farm the exotic class item even faster than the dungeon in Overwhelm. Just open T2/T3 chests and you'll see it drop once per Overwhelm. You ofc need the mission beat once. Either way, getting 4x of these per hour is very farmable in Overwhelm solo.

Hot Take: I'd rather have the exotic class item drop up to 3 times per weekly reset within the Pale Heart Pathfinder instead of Ergo Sum. That or swap out the Ergo Sum reward drop from the matchmade Overthrow in favor of the ECI. Pick one of those 2 & swap out Ergo I think.

Love your videos !! BUT … for me it’s not the fact they locked an exotic behind a 2 player quest - the problem is , ARGUABLY the most talked about exotic they talked about pre launch which is very important to prismatic builds , is what was locked behind this wall !! I wouldn’t care if they put the new exotic sniper instead of the class items but at no point were they like Hey… we’re coming out with new exotic class items BUT you will need to team up in order to get them . If they would have tempered everyone’s expectations by saying this before final shape this wouldn’t be such a bad reaction from community. For me , I manage 40 ish people + 3 days a week for 16 hours a day. I have to be very social with associates and other members of mngmnt like my self and deal with people ALL DAY! The last thing I want to do is fire up final shape to chill and decompress and have to worry about keeping other people occupied while I’m trying to do what I want to do in the game on my time - again I really do appreciate your opinion BUT .. these class items should not have been the exotics locked behind this quest. I’ve done about 14 runs on my warlock with my buddy, I kept getting rolls that were just awful. Half of my rolls had spirit of ophidian on it, I didn’t get a single roll I actually liked and it felt like a waste of my day.

Paul, you can get these from chests in the Pale Heart (ANY CHEST) and there is a sort of internal counter that guarantees you get one at least every 15-20 minutes (if you grab world chests with wombo+sniper and do overthrow events). You can focus on the blighted chests to get them faster. I have cleared the mission once, I've gotten 8 or 9 drops just running around the landing solo over the course of about 2 hours. Once you unlock it, you can grind them out in the chillest way possible. Please let people know this, the whole attack on Dual Destiny is kind of a bummer since its such great content.

What I think would pretty much solve it is a few things combined: Two drops from DD completion Add it to general loot pool after DD completion, as well as rahool Replace Pathfinder Ergo Sum with the class item after DD completion people that can rush a completion in 20 minutes will be able to get essentially one every ten minutes, solo players can farm lost sectors or overthrows or chest routes, and at the very least you'll get 3 a week from pathfinder. I do think that requiring DD completion should be required, though. Don't change that.

As a primary solo player, I’m disappointed, but I’m not mad. Final Shape felt like Bungie thought about every player, but this exotic mission feels more on par with Lightfall Bungie. I don’t like how people are discounting the fact that not all people are able to communicate the same way. I know a couple of people who I could run the mission with, but they have families and other responsibilities. Either way, I might run it later but it doesn’t seem worth the effort for me if I only want to run it once anyway.

Ive gotten like 10+ cloaks and have done the mission only once. All through overthrow, I play it in the way to get any chest I can, I get one per 2/3 runs. Im probably top % (not a speedrunner by any means) or something but its definitely feasible to just farm it there. I wouldn't call the drop % to be hard. For your first run with lfg you can totally do it with just text chat and screen sharing on discord

For me, again my personal experience, I find it easy and honestly pretty fun to farm the landing chests for the class item. I missed this type of grind and yes it may be brainless work to some but I get off work at 8pm, don’t get home till around 8:30 and after getting settled don’t hop on the game till like 9:15-25. I’ll put on a show in the background or hop on a vc with some buddies and just run around the map getting around 5-7 chests per run then respawn in a new instance to spawn chests faster. Ultimately it takes around 20-30 mins per class item. I’m able to do it solo and it’s very chill. I very much missed this type of taken king/dreadnaught-esk farming. I loved the mission and don’t really agree w the amount of backlash it’s been receiving.
