Exactly!! When Janet performed at the AMA's in 1990, she didn't hold a mic. She just lip-synced and danced. She wasn't trying to fool anybody. We all would've known she wasn't singing. So what?? She can dance her ass off. And Paula's one of the greatest dancers of our time.

LOL I know. Being able to record live TV and physically own it and watch it whenever you want was cutting edge tech. We thought it looked great at the time. Can you believe that? LOL In some ways I wish we could kinda go back. Nowadays we are so restricted with what we can record and keep. Back then was the best because we recorded and kept whatever we wanted and got to save it forever too.

to me as long as a person can dance and/or sing really well, theyve got my vote. if youre not dancing/putting on a performance or just standing with a mic (ala whitney) and singing your ass off....what's the point? (like some artists these days...i wont name names

I wonder why her and her company couldn't see what Straight Up would be to begin with. She would have never surfaced without Straight Up I think. She tried hard with her first 2 singles. On another note I wonder how she got away with lip-synching this on Apollo.

Because she could out dance everyone. Thank God she didn't sing live. Paula is an entertainer and had great songs and David Fincher for most of her Forever Your Girl videos. You will notice they didn't show the audience. I'm wondering if Paula just didn't perform there with no audience. They can be brutal and we know Paula wouldn't really sing live. Her dancing more than makes up for it, though.

I think because the Milli Vanilli debacle didn’t happen yet at this time. After that happened it seemed that there was more emphasis for acts to sing live rather than lip sync. Yeah I feel like the audience was not the normal crowd when someone is up there singing. Paula was so new at this point and being written off as another Janet clone. She turned it around though in a few months time.

@MrCrazyKool I'm sure money had a lot to do with it. She can't sing to save her life. The only way to get her to appear was to allow her to lip-sync. She might as well left the mic backstage.
