I've used PC exclusively for 15+ years. Hands down the best bang for your buck, and every product is a hit. They don't have customers, they have fans

All my holy grail products are Paula’s Choice. But not all the PC products I’ve tried have been hits, some have been disastrous. But their return policy is good and some products that I’ve not been able to use on my face I’ve used up on my neck, chest, and hands.

I know this is an old post so I hope you see this but I'm looking for anti aging products. I have large pores and deep smile lines and nasiolabial folds. Corners of my mouth turn down due to sagging. Just bought a few products from paulas choice and I love them. Any recommendations for my skin issues?

Another way to apply retinols is to "sandwich" the product between lotion at bedtime. You will still get a bit of flaking but not nearly as much. I use Cerave PM lotion and it works great!

I love Paula's Choice products! All of their BHA products are fabulous! I've used the 2% BHA for years, and highly recommend the 9% BHA for cystic acne spots. The 25% AHA + 2% BHA peel is also amazing and leaves my skin super smooth and soft! The Calm Serum was holy grail product for me for years until recently; now I use the Azelaic Booster and the Discoloration Repair Serum instead and highly recommend both if you struggle with post-acne redness.

I have used the Skin Revealing Body Lotion 10% AHA and it worked wonders on my KP on the back of my arms. The results took a few weeks but by the end of the tube the KP on my arms was pretty much gone. I have a dryer skin type and use the Sink Perfecting 2% BHA Lotion Exfoliant instead of the liquid which is a wonderful product. I agree with Kat, I have used the SPF that Kat mentions, and isn’t all that great. I have tried other’s as well and I’m not a fan of Paula’s Choice’s SPFs. One is indeed better off getting an SPF from a different brand.

My favorite paulas choice items are the azelaic acid serum. It helps with everything for me! Texture, redness, acne, and dark spots. I also love the skin perfecting BHA 9 treatment. The most incredible product and the ONLY thing that has ever worked on my hormonal acne. It pulls it everything out in like 2 days. I’ve gone through 3 bottles. It’s expensive and tiny but so worth It. It only use it as a spot treatment.

I use many Paula’s Choice products in my skincare routine. I have for several years. My favorites they have come out with are the Omega+ Complex Serum and the Omega+ Complex Moisturizer. I have sensitive, dry, rosacea-prone skin and these help keep my skin calm. In the Unites States, Sephora sells some of the range of Paulas Choice products. A BHA body product may be more helpful to control keratosis pilaris because a BHA exfoliant with active salicylic acid will remove dead skin cells, cleaning the inside of pores, have anti-inflammatory properties and stop bacteria that cause pimples.

Great video! I first started using Paula's Choice more than 30 years go-pre-internet. She had very few basic products that I ordered through the mail. I was still in my 20's and didn't have any real skin issues. It's incredible to me the list of products that are now available. I am close to 60 with dry sensitive skin, and so for the last few years I have been largely using the Skin Recovery line in PC. I use the BHA 2%, which is amazing. For awhile I used the tinted moisturizer, however, I found it quite drying and the color oxidizing. (Currently my favorite tinted moisturizer is Colorscience.) I love the cleansing balm, and often use it as my first step in a double cleanse, but for the second step I opt for something less expensive from the drugstore. As a PC fan with a few reservations, I really enjoyed your video-and your Australian accent! Your skin looks very beautiful.

I quite love Paula's Choice and yeah, most products are good. I realised I'm not crazy about their light blue range (is that the Clear one ..), I got a lot of products as a travel set and can take them or leave them. But the purple clinical range, chef's kiss. My skin does love niacinamide and the 20% is a hero product for me. Also recently I've been using the Discoloration Repair Serum and I think it's doing a great job, still a bit too early to tell but the signs are positive. Also ofc the BHA , goes without saying.

Loved this review. I have used many PC products and I can confirm the holy grail status for the BHA toner and the 1% Retinol. A hidden gem that doesn't get enough hype in my opinion is the 10% azelaïc acid booster. Great product for people with combo/oily skin for clearing pores, smoothing texture and reducing redness. Gives that grownup glow and beautiful skin. You are radiant in this episode Kat!

I have used Paula’s Choice since the late 90’s. I always had great comments about my skin. When I retired I decided they were more costly than I’d prefer. Fast forward 5 years. I still use the BHA exfoliant. It is just that good! I love the body AHA, BHA and retinol products, but don’t use them daily. I use the eye cream in the yellow/orange bottle. I agree mineral sunscreens have an annoying cast but they don’t sting the eyes. I switched to Neutrogena 70 spf sunscreen and have been happy with it. I use Cerave face wash, moisturizer and also spf sunscreen (if I will be indoors all day).

Thanks for the video! I’ve been using the brand for over 15 years! I’m not exclusive to the brand but they are reliable, well formulated products without fragrance and not ridiculously expensive. I have two holy grail products - the Clear daily spf which is a truly weightless, non greasy sunscreen, and the Shine Stopper, which is the only thing that has ever helped control oil on my oily skin. I agree about the tinted sunscreen - terrible colour! I’ll have to try the 2% BHA again now that I’m older!

I am really interested in this series! Few months ago, I bought a lot of PC products (full and samples) to test them out because I am on a quest for my “ideal skin routine” and wanted to try that brand. Especially since everything is fragrance free, which I enjoy. My skin is oily/combo and I tried moisturizers from both Calm and Anti-aging line. I have to say that those recommended for use overnight are maybe not hydrating (or more precisely “oily”) enough for my preference. I am not saying they are bad, but I use them as daily moisturizers now. I liked the chemical SPF 50 from the Anti-aging line for oily/combo skin. It sits well and is better under makeup than most chemical sunscreens. I often find them too greasy. My skin is really sensitive so I only do chemical peels 1xweek, and I actually enjoyed using the BHA 1% as well. I also tried the eye cream/gel from Resist line and I liked them: I did notice improvement in fine lines around my eye. The problem is I used them at the same time (gel in the morning, cream in the evening) so I am not exactly sure which one contributed more. The thing that surprised me: I am usually sensitive to niacinamide and it causes me to breakout in rash (it clears in few hours, but is annoying). I had no reaction to the PC products that I tried so far, however, I did stay away from anything that is confirmed to have more than 5% niacinamide, just to be safe. I am still going to some products and hope to have list of holy grails by the end of the year. :D

I also have oily/combo (more combo) skin and sensitive. It took me a year and many travel sizes to find my routine. But I want to recommend you try the Calm toner for normal to dry skin (I use the Calm cleanser for oily/combo skin). I know, it doesn’t make sense given our skin types but that was the missing link for me. It gave me just a hint of extra moisturizing effects during toning so that I can use a light moisturizer at the end. That might also be the missing link for you. I also always have a bottle on hand of the Pore Reducing toner and use that occasionally when a pimple appears or I just need something extra. As for boosters, I love the Azelaic acid, Niacinimide 20%, Retinol 1% (booster), and Hyaluronic acid. (Listed in order.) I also like the C15 but don’t buy it anymore; I only use it in the AM (retinol in PM) and never use it up before it’s quick 3-month expiration. I also use benzoyl peroxide 2.5%. Antioxidant Pore Purifier serum. BHA 4% for weekly use. BHA 9 for a spot treatment as needed. Charcoal gel mask. I just got the BHA 2 / AHA 25 weekly peel and love it! And I also got the ceramide eye cream but haven’t yet tried. Yeah, I use a lot of their products! Lol. Of course, even though we seem to have similar skin types, it’s not the same exact. Plus my skin got used to all these products over years. I just wanted to give you some ideas. Btw, you may also find it helpful to add 1-2 drops of Moisture Renewal Oil Booster to your serum or moisturizer to give it a boost. I used to use it and loved it. My skin absorbed it beautifully. But I stopped using it as I didn’t need it when I started using the Calm toner for normal to dry skin.

Btw, if you buy any full size products that you don’t like, they give you 6 months to return it. You just have to pay shipping. I intended on returning a couple of products while I was testing them out but never ended up sending them back. :-)

Great review!. Love PC and I find that all of their products last a very long time. Currently what I'm loving is the Omega + cleaning balm. It is so luxurious and yes, I stock up with the 20% off sales which are available most months. I do like Omega+ serum as well plus the matching moisturize. For me, the .3% + 2% Bakuchiol is highly effective. I haven't yet moved up to the 1% retinol.

Firstly, you look absolutely stunning today, the whole shebang ( makeup, clothes, hair, jewellery). I actually took myself off the mailing list years ago as it was too much. However, I keep going back to the products again and find over the decades some products have worked and some haven’t. Now I’m an old menopausal bag, I find the clinical range with the actives really effective. Agree that the cleansers and sunscreens are nothing to write home about. Once I use up all my fancy ( some not very good) skincare, I’ll buy some again. Great review, thanks 😀 current faves are intensive wrinkle repair serum and BHA 9 treatment.

The BHA is my favorite, so I'll choose a second, like you asked, ha! I would have to say their intensive repair moisturizer is my second favorite (I have dry skin so I wouldn't recommend it for you). Other items I like are the hydra light cleanser, the resist sunscreen/moisturizer with SPF 50 (you can't get that one as you explained) and the resist toner (dark blue bottle). Overall their serums and I didn't get along, but that's ok! Thanks for such a thorough review!

This is a great video. I have used a few PC products for the last 5 years or so, namely the 1% retinol and their antioxidant serum for oily/combo skin -- the latter is a great niacinimide & HA serum that, combined with the retinol, prevents pretty much all of my cystic acne. I usually have a BHA and AHA from them going as well -- I have usually gone for other versions of their BHA than the one in the black bottle but I think I'll try that one when my current BHA runs out. I also love their moisturiser from their clear range but unfortunately it's a bit expensive for how long it lasts, at least in the UK.

I love the Omega Serum and moisturizer. You can use it under and around your eyes without irritation (for most people), I have very sensitive eyes and skin on and around the eye area and this does not irritate me even during flare ups. I use the body exfoliants one a week/once every two weeks. After I use them my regular moisturizers seem to work better and my skin feels really soft. The only reason I do not use the exfoliants more often is because I use sunless tanning products 😁

Your review has been really helpful. Recently bought their Skin Restoring Moisteriser with SPF 50 and so far I really like it. Non greasy and sits very nicely under make-up. Interesting to hear about what Australia considers effective sunscreens, I can but hope it actually is SPF 50. I was toying with the BHA but thought it might be too aggressive for my rosacea prone skin, but I might give it a go. Will also look at a couple of other products you said you thought were ok. Definitely would like to see a part 2.

I also had bad luck with the mineral sunscreens. I tried the SPF 30 from the Calm line and although it was very comfortable and made the skin look good, it just sat on top of the skin and any seat or a tear wood smudge it and cause white streaks running down my face. It also looked bade under makeup, made it look textured (as if I need help with that). In general, I have concluded that I don’t do well with mineral sunscreens from any brand: they are either sticking to my face for like a week or removed by wind; if they are tinted, they are in 90% of situations too dark for me. The only mineral SPF that I love (and this is not really a pure SPF but a hybrid product) is the Survival 30 from NIOD. That one is pure perfection for me.

It does what it says on the box it moisturises and it's non greasy, I think what I like most about it is that it comes in a pump to be honest. I use the PC products after I take my makeup off before bed but I use the good molecules toner and clinique moisture surge before I put it back on because I like it better under makeup...wish the clinique came in a pump! I remember when Paula first arrived on the skin care and cosmetics scene, with her awesome “Don’t go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me” book. Her big thing was how the industry was ripping women off with overpriced, ineffective products. Now she has her own line of overpriced skin care…though I suppose some of it could be considered effective. Her $52 Vit C serum is certainly “brightening” my skin, it’s turning it kind of orange. The tinted mineral sunscreen I like, but you get a fairly small amount for the price, think I’m going to go back to EltaMD.

@@KitschSnitch I read a week or so ago that she sold the company last year, and I thought the prices were a little high (considering her philosophy and criticism of the industry) way before then. And I think I am being fair…I don’t hate everything from the line. I like that it is cruelty free, I like that the products are mostly effective….but I do remember some things she made years ago that were great, which are now no longer available. The tinted sunscreen I just bought, I use it on my face, neck, décolleté - and I doubt that little tube will last me more than a month, if that. Love that it has a lot of good skin care ingredients in it, and that I don’t need foundation with it, but it’s a small amount for the price.

Paula's Choice was sold to Unilever last year, but Paula originally sold it to another private equity firm in 2016 which is when (from what I understand) she stopped being involved in the brand. So things have changed a bit since she was head of the brand, including the company making some decisions that went against her beliefs that she wrote about.

My favourite product is the 9% Bha it will disappear blemishes OVER NIGHT, and absolute miracle product. I love and use the whole skin recovery range except for the retinol which I didn't rate. I do like the .1% oil serum you held up, it's not a miracle product for me... but I'm never sure if I'm supposed to put moisturiser over it? Maybe it would work better if I didn't dilute it? I love the intensive repair cream for night time. The only thing I haven't found through PC is a day cream that I love as much as my CosRX intensive hyaluronic acid cream which is just most gorgeous light gel texture and ideal for under makeup.

I generally use the exfoliant and retinol every night/most nights and any other serum I use in the morning. If I have a few day serums open, I will alternate them 😊

Hi, I use a couple of the purple PC products - the ones with estrogen (?) in them. I’m interested in the retinol products you mentioned. I am 66 and my skin us clear, but I have wrinkles and the dreaded nasolabial folds. I’ve used retinols before. I’m thinking of the 1% Purple and/or the gray retinol intensive retinol repair serum. I love face oils but I want visible results. Can I combine both the 1% and the retinol serum-oil? What do you suggest? Thank you! I’m a brand new viewer/subscriber and this video was excellent!❤

Would love to hear your thoughts on the hydrating gel-to-cream cleanser when you try it. I’ve been eyeing it off for my sensitive skin but haven’t bit the bullet yet.

In the Netherlands Paula's Choice is quite expensive. Not much sales either, sometimes you get 20% if you spend a certain amount, but only if you are subscribed to their newsletter. Not too much spamming though. I have been using the bha for years, still love it. In all honesty, for every other product I have found cheaper alternatives. Still love the brand though. Your vitamine C seems to be oxidating, it is way too yellow, maybe you shouldn't use that one any longer.

Yo my skin loves vitamin C, I get rel good results from it. Ordered the Paula's c15 but before that was using the cosrx 13% vitamin c which works pretty well and it's definitely cheaper but leaves my skin a bit tacy.

Excellent video! I bought the entire Calm Redness line last Black Friday, I should be able to start using it soon (had too many things to finish before). I only recently started having redness, which i suppose is Rosacea, and I hope to get rid of it. You mentioned having redness: is retinol advised for those who have it? I would love to use it, I only used one product with retinol (but with also other components, it was a Filorga one) and after a couple of weeks it started irritating me, so i don't know. I may try the 0.1 one and see.

A lot of actives can irritate redness, but it is just trial and error to see which ones aggravate your skin and it might also be different with different formulations. I would definitely start with a lower percentage if you are interested, and the oil based one will probably be a lot gentler too.

HI ...GREAT REVIEW ... If you look at Dr Shereen Idress (Dermatologist on tube) she is great for recommendations and says that niacinamide is active at from 3% to 5%...She says more is not more in this case...her tube channel is really interesting and honest and she also recommends products for skin ...worth a look

I would always use the BHA first since it’s a toner. Toners should go directly on the skin followed by your serum/oil/moisturizer 😊

I’m just so baffled over the 2% BHA, what is it about Paula’s Choice that works better than a 2% Salicylic Acid toner from the drugstore? Paula’s Choice is US $32 for 4 oz/118 ml TRAVEL SIZE? For water, green tea and preservatives? Paula’s books taught me to read the labels and ingredients, so why does this cost so much more? I can get a 2% toner with more than 2x as much product for $10-12 at the drugstore, La Roche Posay has one, Walgreens has a store brand of their own BHA toner. I’ll pay more for something if it’s really better, but I just haven’t hit buy on Paula’s because the ingredients just get me every time as nothing special.

I can say from using 2% BHA from the drugstore that they aren't as effective. It doesn't just come down to the ingredients and the percentage, it is mainly about the formulation and quality/effectiveness of the ingredients, and well formulated products with better ingredients just cost more. It's like comparing a box cake to one make from a pastry chef, yes on paper the ingredients are the same, but there is a lot more than just the ingredients that makes the quality of a cake very different.

Thank you! Honestly, if PC is too expensive (which I completely understand) the drugstore versions are definitely better than not using them at all, but I wouldn't expect results as fast as what you can see from PC. I know The Ordinary has a BHA solution that is more affordable but probably better formulated than most drugstore brands.

@@KitschSnitch I continue to need a BHA at 50+ years of age. I still have the same darn oily-prone-to-breakout skin, only I don’t have the monthly periods anymore to bring a breakout to the surface. Breakouts turn into hard nodules that take months to go away. The best way to prevent this is with a BHA. I also still use benzoyl peroxide but down to once a week on that, instead of daily when I was younger. I am willing to give this a try and see if I like it. 👍

@@cwynn1547 if you need a good BHA, I would suggest trying this one. If you need it that badly, I wouldn't even bother with cheaper options. It is worth the investment

Would you say the exfoliating tone is similar to glycos? I’m searching for a replacement for that step!
@KitschSnitch
@KitschSnitch 2 жыл бұрын
They are different acids (this is salicylic and that one was glycolic) so they have some similar effects like smoother skin texture, clear pores, reduce redness, etc. But salicylic is also known for reducing breakouts and congestion and glycolic is better for reducing fine lines etc. So they both have a great exfoliating effect, but they also each target different things. I actually think the Paula's Choice one does a better job at exfoliating my skin than the Glyco one did, but long term the Glyco one would help with fine lines more. Paula's Choice also has glycolic acid products but I haven't used any yet
