Being someone who knows Brittne personally, and haven spoken to her personally about what she is going to do to achieve change Tonga I would like to let you know that; because education is a big issue in Tonga and the Pacific, and there are currently no public libraries on Tongatapu (all libraries being owned by private institutions), Miss Heilala has set a goal and made plans to build a public library in Nukualofa that will provide Tonga's citizens access to more literature. She has already committed to making this change in Tonga by presenting her plan to major private organizations and receiving approval for funding. She has also collected books for the library and after competing for Miss South Pacific in December of 2015 she will hold major book drives in Hawaii, California, and Utah (three significant parts of the US Tongan diaspora) to gather more books for the library. Already having received the funding for the library, and the means by which to supply it, I cant see why it wouldn't be achievable. Sustainability, however, is another question. Depending on the number of patrons (which, with a national literacy rate of 99%, i imagine would be a fairly large amount) a small library card fee could likely be enough money to cover operational and maintenance costs of the library. If patron fees cannot sustain the library, there are many sources of governmental and foreign aid (such as Aussie-aid, Kiwi-aid, and many other NGOs and private organizations) that could cover those costs. Seeing as most of her plan is set for the time period close to, and following, the end of her reign, she will likely continue her work even after her reign is over... its not much, but after all, she's only a 21 year old beauty queen. Hopes that answers a few of your questions. It's quite clear in my first statement that I was referring to and within the context of a beauty pageant and from an audience perspective, yes it is, these are the kind of responses contestants are either coached on and the kind of response the audience is expecting, demographically speaking. If a beauty contestant was to answer with a comment that narrows her world view and detracts from a supposed humanitarian, girl-next-door, wholesome etc image and instead say something hateful or offensive it would negatively impact on her popularity in the contest and disconnect her from her audience and most likely the judges. That is what I meant by "standard spiel" - It is not a criticism but a general observation.

Not sure what you're problem is with this woman, but you are starting to annoy me. Are you a Tongan?? or not because if you're not this conversation is over. You don't get to have a say about what Tonga needs or what is good for Tonga. However if you are indeed Tongan and you are suggesting more libraries in Tonga?? What kind of education do you think you are promoting here, one that is conducive to Tongan culture and living or you think filling up heads with Shakespeare and Robert Louis Stevenson or any such literary romantic nonsense is going to help Tonga? The culture has suffered and compromised itself enough from euro-centric influences. Practices and traditions that were passed down orally is the most important education to uphold and maintain, More is the fool to think in such a way. Tonga needs an education alright but one that is innately Tongan and celebrates all it's beauty and history from a Tongan perspective. Get it?? You don't see Tongan people getting angry at Miss Sweden or Miss Columbia for making similar speeches. Turn a page...tired.
