Hi Paul, thank you so much for sharing your beautiful images and videos. I just stumbled over your KZbin channel and your website, beautiful and very personal images, carefully composed. I am an old film photographer who started back in the 70ies, went with black and white, with Hasselblad 500C, Pentax 6x7 and Mamiya 7ii, and of course nowadays uses both digital and analog. Please continue like that and keep your own style - my first impression was 'it's a calm, quiet kind of photography, most valuable nowadays, keep it up.' Thanks once again and good luck with your projects.

Good luck with the move, as you say you can still visit the West Coast as you visited your knew place. The new area looks stunning, A certain Mr Kenna uses the Hassey C/M, his landscapes aren’t too shoddy. You are a man with immense talent and that comes through with whatever you’re shooting with. My hasselblad 500cm is the best camera I've ever owned. Sadly there were no standout lenses for the system for me. My Pentax 67 had the 105mm f2.4, my Mamiya M645 1000s had the 80mm f1.9. I just couldn't find a single lense for my 500cm that gave me that wow factor. That being said, if I had to shoot with one camera for the rest of my life, it would be my Hasselblad. Good luck with your new camera and your move!

Nothing wrong with a portrait lens for landscape photography, it can capture scenes you might miss otherwise. Whilst not a portrait lens I spent a year in NZ with just a 50mm and none of my landscapes suffered for it. Best of luck with the move, I’ll miss that beautiful coast, but excited to see what you’ll get from your new location, it’s a hell of a gateway to some amazing scenery!

Hi Paul, very curious about your next moves. Will certainly follow them (at least, the ones you post here on youtube). The Hassy is a wonderful tool to use with an amazing history. The 150mm lens you have on your camera has recorded an incredible number of celebrities in the past. I love it for portraits. Never tried landscapes with it. If you want to go wider, the CF 50 FLE is a lens that might suit your needs and sharpness towards the corners is good due to the floating element. You can find these quite cheap nowadays (up till two years ago even cheaper). However, the disadvantage of this lens is that it is quite heavy and chunky. The earlier 50mm (non FLE) is easier to handle. Considering that you use a 28mm on your M8, the 60mm might be wide enough and that is a lens that is rather compact, not too heavy and has great image quality as well.
@PaulCSmithPhotographer5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Erik really appreciate the advice on the Hassy

Yes, medium format is addictive. I have a Pentax 67, and love it except for the weight. Personally, square format doesn't work for me with landscapes, but you have a great point that we shouldn't be overly concerned about using unusual camera/lens combinations for traditional genres as they can provide unique perspectives.
