I think Ruger actually improved upon the FN design, the thumb safety is more intuitive and the top cut slide is a nice touch. I'm in the same boat. While it might be boring as hell, 9mm has improved so much throughout my time shooting that it's basically become my everything caliber. I keep some 357 for my revolver (singular), and I've got a stock of 45 because I think the 1911 is an elegant weapon, for a more civilized age, but that's it in handgun calibers. Something like 5-7 is just too niche for me, I could only see having anything in one if I were a regular hiker/photographer or somesuch who wanted to minimize weight but have a gun for dealing with mountain lions, snakes, coyotes, people who are snakes, etc. Or if I were in an executive protection capacity where I was part of a VERY small team and the likely threats would regularly include people wearing lightweight body armor. In both cases, the mag capacity and the deep penetration/flat shooting would be useful. For literally anything else, I'd say that there is a traditional caliber, and almost certainly one of the big 4 (9mm, 357, 45acp, 38spl) that is more suited to your use

The P320 it is based on is not any better. Also, I got rid of mine. In my personal opinion, the Glock is better for the price point. Also CZ or Italian copycat but couldn't locate one then. Basically, SIG like Walther is overpriced and not necessarily better designed or manufactured. P250 was superior from tactical and strategic reasoning. Have been looking forward to this video. Good one too. The FN 5.7 has always interested me but disappointed me. To see a industry competitor come in with a better but cheaper version is awesome. Wonder what a trigger kit would do to help this Ruger 57? At this price a $150 trigger kit might be worth the experiement. I have always thought the 5.7 a nice option for a armed guard where threats might be wearing body armor. Or personal protection details where longer range shots at concealed shooters might be necessary. I read an article once where the idea was that if a shooters location was known by one person he could use 5.7mm tracers to "guide" the other team members to the known threat. As a back up gun in that role I never wanted to spend the money on a unreliable $1200 pistol with acompanying shoulder rig and ammo. But now I am considering this as a possibly viable option. The reliability is really the key factor. Thanks Paul for all the valuable knowledge you convey in such an entertaining way.

Aside from hosting a common ammo for primary and secondary carry, my pause to consider is this; FN developed the 5.7x28mm as a PDW for forces following the tip of the spear. With the benefit of selective fire, and a deep, easy to exchange magazine, death by a thousand needles and defeat of common flack gear of the day was an admirable trait in the P90 format. This is likely still acceptable in protective detail services. The Five-seveN was a profit center move. Frankly, I'm quite happy trusting for a "bug" my P226/P229 in 357Sig.

I found this channel a few days ago( thanks KZbin! Channels been around for yrs but you never showed it in my feed, but I get every demo ranch vid!) I love this channel, 7 yr old vids are just about as good, and relevant as they are today. Since I subbed a few days ago I've watched the channel grow by roughly 1k subs PER DAY! Your hard work is hopefully paying off, the info the give is invaluable and the presentation is perfect for most gun owners, mostly excluding the tacticool crowd, which suits me fine, they arent likly to learn a thing anyway. Thanks paul, keep it up man! If all hunters and shooters were as professional as you then public perception of us might be entirely different !

"Recently somebody did a review of this pistol [Ruger 57] and he described the trigger pull... as really great. I would have to ask the question 'on what did he base his conclusion that that is a great trigger pull?'". My top guess is the unnamed reviewer was sponsored by the manufacturer or a dealer with a vested interest in glowing reviews.

Depends on what you're used to. To someone with a lot of time on proper SA guns like 1911s or DA/SA revolvers, the Ruger is going to be a pretty bad trigger. To someone younger that has mainly been shooting Glocks and striker fired compacts and the like or even a lot of DA/SA autos, the Ruger is pretty great. The bottom line is, this is NOT a bullseye competition gun so don't get it for that. For most anything else, it's perfectly fine

Harrel speaking the truth yet again, always quality side note: for defensive 5.7x28 rounds you want the stuff that goes at 2000 fps or above. Such as FN 198LF.

Ss195 and ss198. Everything else aside from the white box stuff and reloaded specialty rounds are only range worthy for the simple fact that these guns were designed to fire the sub 30 grain stuff. Not the 40 grain vmax and frederal stuff.
