"get a gun" is kinda where I was going. This is a weird contest and the guy with the shield needs a serious upgrade. Or a crossbow? Shotgun guy seems OP for this particular scenario and I just see melee person doing what they did in history: dying. Guns really changed war, you know? So did arrows. Hard to kill a dude who can kill you from 100x+ your reach.

Like maybe cutting out circles from the MDF and fitting them inside the lip of a metal trashcan lid? Sure, not as much surface area to hide behind but there IS that bit of metal to add to the permeability issue. That said, if he REALLY wants the best of all worlds in terms of pellet defeating properties, go with a Manhole cover. Yeah, it's Hella Heavy but what are your Giblets WORTH these days?!? All that aside, taking an MDF slab and a SWORD to defend against his neighbor?!? Has he never heard the story about taking a KNIFE to a GUNFIGHT?!? Some people's kids, I SWEAR! SMH. The likes you got was not because you said something so profound. You said something simple which catalyzed the likes for PAUL, not you. Don't try so hard to get "likes" and maybe you'll get more when you actually DO say something naturally profound. I'm sorry I even brought it up! Shallow? Like praising the likes you think you "earned" which really isn't related to the substance of what you actually said in the first place? O K... Maybe you should step away from KZbin a little bit... I could see it practical from a historical war standpoint from the transition to firearms till the late 1800s where firearms met people with sword/spears and shields. My take away is if you had a musket and the opponent had a shield and lance on horseback, if you wanted to have a chance at killing the opponent, the musket should be a rifle with a steel or lead ball. These situations popped up in conflicts for hundreds of years.

Some where in military ballistics history is a lethality measurement of projectiles. I believe they used to use 5/8th marine grade plywood. If a specific bullet would penetrate the plywood a certain number of times at a specific range. Then that bullet was lethal at the given range. I know the information is extremely dated.

I wonder how much of that velocity loss was due to not having your shoulder/body as a backstop for the recoil instead of the different barrel length. Thanks for these great videos!
@fulsame1
@fulsame1 5 жыл бұрын
zero. the force acting on the projectiles and the force acting on the firearm to create recoil will always be exactly equal. Having nothing to mitigate the recoil force has zero effect on the velocity of the projectile because the forces are still evenly matched. the recoil force of the firearm does not act on the projectile in either case, whether braced or not.

Thanks Paul. I have a SW and bought it for fun and novelty, however I have found with experimentation and practice (as with everything) and thoughtful load choice, it can be a viable defense OPTION. After much range time, I have selected Federal FlightControl #1 buck for the SW as ONE of my emergency only, quick access home defense options. It is a difficult round to procure, but with patience I have ample supply. Cheers and keep up the good work. I enjoy learning from your years of knowledge and experience.

@CCW1911
@CCW1911 5 жыл бұрын
Did you mean that shotgun patterns generally expand at the rate of about one inch per yard of distance from the target? Thirty yards equals a thirty inch pattern, ten yards a ten inch pattern. Some specialty ammo acts differently and of course choke matters.
