Hi Paul, I had eleven and a half hours of surgery to treat ovarian cancer. They removed my uterus, cervix, fallopian tubes, ovaries, large intestine, omentum, spleen, mid section of liver and the peritoneum, which the surgeon said was a bit like scraping wallpaper off! Your recovery will be harsh, painful and, at times, feel like to much to cope with. But, oh boy, I wish I’d thought of the three legged dog at the time. Make the best use of those three legs that you can Paul, run after that stick with all your might, especially on a hard day. My surgery was over five years ago and although my cancer isn’t curable, I’m still up and running. Big shout out to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in England and all who have been part of saving my life. Sending you a big beautiful yellow ball to chase Paul. X

Hi Paul, fellow PMP survivor here - I had Peritonectomy with HIPEC & EPIC in 2014. If I may offer one piece of advice it would be to possibly have the hospital assign you a “buddy” who has previously been through the procedure! It really helped to have that support during my work-up (to surgery period) & then afterwards I was teamed up on the ward with another PMP pal who had her Peritonectomy one week prior to mine - that was invaluable & we both helped each other through some tough recovery times. You have a wonderful attitude & I have no doubt you will get through this….I wish you the very best & will keep you in my prayers. Get your warrior on 💪….! ❤️

I love your 3 legged dog analogy! When I got cancer the first time, I made up the Silver Lining Game... every time I thought something negative, I would counter it with a positive, no matter how small. No hair? At least I save money on shampoo and time styling my hair! Have to spend time in bed? Atleast it gave me time to read. You get the picture. It helped a lot. Recently I was pretty sick, and I found myself celebrating the fact that the x-rays showed no cancer, "just" pneumonia. I hope you know how much your educational and thoughtful videos are helping folks all around the world. Wishing you the very best.❤

Hey, Paul, you definitely don't need that gallbladder-- got rid of mine (cholecystectomy) years ago, don't miss the darn thing at all! I loved the analogy of the 3-legged dog. The wonderful thing about animals is they don't know if they have one eye, three legs, etc.-- they are just happy to have attention, get pets and cuddles. Thank you for the great explanation of the other organs you'll be losing; even if a re-sect of the intestine is required (my brother had that done), there's recuperation after but then life goes on! Love your attitude, fortitude, determination and strong will. Thinking of you and sending a hug!♥

Cholecystitis is where the bile duct is blocked by a stone, and becomes infected and inflamed. It's common for men in their 40's etc. and more common in women. It can actually cause pancreatitis when that happens too and jaundice etc. it can also be incredibly painful as you swell up. The only real side-effect of gallbladder removal is your bile then drips constantly from the liver into the small intestine, unlike how it would normally dump it from the "warehouse" (gallbladder) after say a fatty meal triggers it. The constant bile dripping can lead to loose stools etc. so just eat some fibre like a couple apples a day and you'll be fine with that side of things. Splenectomy I'm not so familiar with, but I think it can effect your immune system somewhat when removed, and the liver takes over most of it's role if it's removed. You can therefore live quite well with the gallbladder removed with a mild side-effect that is pretty easily manageable,.

Great update Paul Very good you have residency while waiting for your date. You may need draining leading up to anyway. There are med's available to control the bile, but often getting eating habits and what you eat in order, resets the discomfort some experience. It's like a broken tap... Hope your nephew takes this time to spend with you. Safe travels for Caroline ❤🍁
