Back in the mid 70's I had a mk3 450 Ducati. It was a great bike to ride. I remember it was very good on petrol. It had a valve lifter to help kick it over but the cable snapped so I just got the knack of starting it without. I have a 1961 BSA 250 that I have had for 50 years but it's not been on the road for about 20 odd years.

@@darthvirago I would love to get hold of a 450 Ducati maybe the race version. Lovely bike and engine. Does your BSA still fire up ?

@@motechRevolution My Ducati had a sports fairing and clip-ons. The BSA is partly dismantled for storage. Tank seat and engine packed away safe. Wouldn't take much time or money to get it running.

You're so right about much of today's youngsters & how different things were for all of us, our older years. I was tinkering with cycles from a very early age, going to the town scrap yards & picking up cycles that needed work...which I did time after time. Then cycles & motorbikes...& been a mechanic most of my working life. It's been a very pleasurable & satisfying experience. All starting from those early days. Who knows were the future is going, but it's certainly going even more & more technology based, online based etc. For good or bad

Love those handlebars!Similar to the bars on my Harley.

I'm a returner after 40 years. I wish I'd mothballed my bikes when I became a dad, instead of selling them. Anyhow, I did get a new Classic350 in April to start a new stable, because it was a great deal and reliable. That means I can get a couple of older carbed bikes next, yet still have a rider as I tinker with them. Thankfully older bikes are getting cheaper because few of us have the nouse to fettle 'em. Howling winds and rain here in Cumbria, so it'll be some days before I can get out.

Yes it's below freezing in many parts of the UK Paul. We've had very heavy thick snow these past 4 days & it's currently -4 🥶 Definitely not biking weather. I'd be tempted to come over to Spain for 3 months & find some cheap accommodation, if I can sort passports out for my two dogs.

@@keepitreal1547 that's cold, I think all of Europe is in for a cold winter. Doesn't get cold here till the official start of Winter around 21 of December. January and February we can get cold mornings and evenings in the Mountains, usually sunny in the day though.

@motechRevolution Very early snow & such low temps for the UK. De icing the car more times already, than the entirety of last winter. Last time I remember early snow & freezing temps was 43yrs ago...getting caught out in a foot of snow on the Horseshoe Pass (which had to be closed) on the last Sunday in October 1981. How time flies by 😮

it's pure Italian, it's like a feisty Italian woman, she need treating just right. To be honest that's part of the appeal . You have to have a relationship with the bike

I feel sorry for the younger generations now. The freedoms you speak of have been taken away and are for the rich only. Motorcycle insurance and training costs are astronomical for a 17 year old. All the fields I messed around on in my youth have been built on (got to have a second home….). The young are also under more surveillance than ever. Try making a mistake and you will have it plastered all over social media with serious repercussions. Be thankful you spent your youth in less restrictive times.

@@mattdog1982 Yes it’s sad that motorcycling has been taken out of the reach of young people in the UK, it’s the same process here, but insurance is cheaper. Or included free for a new bike for a year. The Voge 900 has a years free insurance for over 25s and a €100 supplement to riders 21 and over
