You can get the best of both worlds if you use glue on your push fit models. The glue lubricates/melts the pins slightly, making them go together with almost no force while keeping the hassle free assembly. Also, having glue in the joints will help with closing any gaps by melting the plastic together and smooshing it into any gaps.

The outside of legs doesn't quite line up (nothing filler and some spare purity seals can't cover), but I actually build Redemptor (kind of awful part matching, especially that front cockpit "flap"), Invictor (it was a lot better) and Brutalis (everything gone smooth together), and Ballistus being 1/10 parts of other models was pure joy to assemble. Tho I would HIGHLY advise to use CA glue, acrylic putty (used Vallejo 70.400) and 400-1200 grit papers if you want to make it look truly good.

@@PeteOfDarkness I have 3 redemptors, still in the boxes :D I got them for my Black Templars, but then couldn't decide how In wanted to paint them, so they are all still boxed. Also kind of procrastinating, building them as I know they are supposed to be pretty advanced kits for someone who hasn't built many vehicles before. I also want to collect more bits to make them look more black templar. the issue with running an army like BT's is when you run the vanilla units, they look out of place in your army, unless you have a deep bits box. thankfully with all the 3rd party bits from 3d printers, it's way easier than it used to be. You can even buy some full upgrade kits for Dreadnoughts. I have been trying to hold off buying this stuff though, as going to get my own printer. Will save so much by just printing my own bits. that's the dream though, right. just being able to print off your own bits. every time I go to buy one though, I just end up with more minis :'D I swear, they call it "plastic crack" for a reason. In total I probably have around 6k+ points of unbuilt (nevermind, unpainted) stuff... TBH though I don't like building things till I'm ready to paint them. they are for different armies though, not 6k, pile of shame for just one flavour.

Gunpla model kits are all push fit and the range of movement and detail you get with them is amazing. It is very much possible to get multipose push fit models with weapon options. However the engineering of the sprues/models has to be way better then it is now, which would most likely lead to smaller parts and more fiddling while building.

Only disagreement is on Pushfit Dreadnoughts.....holy shit I am SO glad that most Dreadnoughts aren't just Pushfit. The Non-Pushfit Dreadnoughts are just sooooo much nicer and a lot more fun&cool because you can actually pose them and customize them. Although yeah....all the Smol Fiddly Bits in the Contemptor&Leviathan Dreadnoughts are a bit annoying, but that's a minor bit of frustration I will happily accept in exchange for actually being able to fully customize my Minis. I recommend you try building&painting each Plastic Dreadnought Kit and compare how much nicer looking the Non-Pushfit Dreadnoughts are.

I like push-fit for one specific reason - I can sub-assembly to my heart's content by putting it together, priming, and then carefully pulling away whatever I need to get to places, and a good number of the models facilitates this. For example, I had no trouble painting the Screamer Killer's arms separately, and reaching the torso area and under the carapace properly. I will say though it feels like most of the pins are designed to be almost exact fits - and they almost never come out perfectly, so they are usually too long and/or have gribblies that make it impossible to fit them into their hole.

Yeah. . . Push-fit models can be a bit annoying sometimes. For me, it comes down to the connections for bodies. Since sometimes they make the peg big enough to just barely fit, and if you don’t apply alot of pressure, you get an ugly looking gap. Theres a reason more experienced people snip off the push-fit pegs and just glue them like regular models. I dont always do that since some of the parts are too tough to fit without the pins, but its at least an option for you to consider when building with push-fit kits in the future. As for Leviathan. . . I've *definitely* started working on my Space Marine half. Its *definitely* not languishing in my cellar while I build the Necrons I've had for over a year and a half now. *Definitely~*

Got a good jump out of it. 😂 I have yet to build my Leviathan Box, but I am already debating if I should get the new ultimate starter box to get closer to 2000pts and complete with one or two additional units. It seems many people manage to give alternate poses by just clipping the pegs. I might try that for more variety of poses, but I do like pushfits for how quicker they are.

I think the other big issue with push fit is that the slight warping that can happen on thin pieces (like you mention with the antenna) can be so obvious if that thin piece fits with something else structurally. I know, glue can fix it, but that's against the spirit of push-fit.

I'm currently going through the Dominion Box for AOS. Gotta say push-fit models are a game changer for me, because I really don't like the "building" part of 40k and gluing especially. One piece of advice though, if you're ever struggling with a part with too much resistance, try scraping the "push"part with a knife a little, it will reduce its size and make it easier to fit. And if it becomes too small to fit, just fill the "fit" part with a bit of glue.

Can confirm, sometimes shaving the pegs is helpful, if not necessary, to getting the pieces in place. Also, figuring out where to apply pressure to get the pegs going in the direction of the slots, from the outside where you can't see the connections, is hard, right? I can't be the only one who assembled those Dominion models and was almost (or actually) bending pegs due to bad force alignment.

As someone that is brand new to Warhammer and model building altogether, I bought the Kill Team starter kit which was glue together and was gifted some Marines off the Leviathan box which were push fit. If I hadn't put the push fit models together first I think I would have enjoyed building the glue models a lot less than I did. The Push-fit is a good starting point for a brand new person and I think they should probably include them in all the starter kits. For all the valid problems you point out, I'd like to point out the counterpoint from the newbie perspective - I didn't know what load-outs I should be doing for my kill teams. The starter book not only doesn't give actionable advice to build the best teams, but if you follow their "starter missions" it requires you to build sub-optimal load-outs. If I hadn't done any research I'd have glued together a whole team of basic troops without half the specialists.

Solution to the push-fitting problem is to snip a couple millimetres off the pegs and quickly sand a little curve around the edge, then they fit nice and easily. The reason it takes so much force to get the pieces together is that the air inside the hole has nowhere to go and gets compressed, so the pressure pushing back increases the more you push the peg in.

I MUCH prefer push-fit models myself, I just clean them up the same way I would a normal model with the hobby knife etc...then I cut a little bit off the push fit nub so it closes the gap better and before pushing them fit I just use the old reliable Tamiya Extra Thin to glue it all together and then push it in and they come out fantastic every time. They are so much easier and faster to work with compared to the old style of model that you need to build piece by piece that I hope this push fit is the new standard going forward.

Can confirm from when I built the whole Kruleboyz half of the AoS Dominion box, push-fits are kind of frustrating. A real pain in the fingers, literally. Quick additional tip: when they say you don't need glue, this isn't a suggestion. DO NOT USE SUPERGLUE ON PUSH-FIT MODELS UNLESS YOU HAVE TO. (Or you go the route of cutting the tabs off, obviously). When I was building my Kruleboyz, adding superglue first only ever made the process _harder,_ to little or no real benefit. Friction alone would keep those pieces together in most instances. I was just so used to assembling with glue, I hadn't internalized that fact. I learned the hard way pieces preemptively locking in place half-way into fitting is a bad time. Thankfully, it all worked out in the end, but I had to take drastic measures to _undo_ problems I made myself. Save yourself some headaches, and just trust the process. With how hard it'll be to get those pieces together all the way, they aren't coming off on their own. Be very selective about where the superglue goes on.

My issue with some of the push fit models is no matter how much force you use there is still a gap, I've resorted to just cutting them off and gluing the models instead

Got the Dominion box for AOS 2.0 it was all push fit. Tried it with a few of the minis, thought it was shit. So snipped off all the tabs and just glued them proper

I play Underworlds, so pushfit is a regular occurence (btw protip: buying 4-model Underworlds bands is a great way to keep the yearning for new armies under control). Always end up just clipping off the pegs and assembling as normal. I don’t trust my hand strength to push hard enough to not leave gaps.

I was so happy to get leviathan. I was like yeah... push fit. So I open the box and began to remove the contents. At the bottom of the box was about 20 broken pegs , 3 loose heads rolling around in there and a few arms. Sighs 😕 . At least I've gotten it all built.

The easiest way to solve the problem is to shave two opposite sides of the posts, though they should be moulded with groves in the posts to stop the build-up of hydrolic pressure, like you get on wooden dowels

Bought some really cheap 2nd hand models that are just from the Leviathan box but sold separately and instantly converted them into non push-fit and magnetised stuff like the Infernus Marines so they could be Intercessors or whatever else I can make them in the future with spare weapons and sprues my friend had. I will say, I believe push-fit can be nice and handy for the average Warhammer fan IF DONE RIGHT. What I mean by this is, make stuff that can be swapped out push-fit. For example I like that the Infernus Sergeant isn't holding his weapon but rather it's clipped onto his hip, and you can simply take it on/off as you please with a little modification. T'au drones could greatly benefit from this, as magnetising them is annoying imo.

I got lucky with my Leviathan stuff. Spare bits from other people's Leviathan boxes gets me my Captain with a propah helmet, my Librarian has a helmet from a spare Librarian helmet from another box, and I can kitbash a normal phobos lieutenant from the boyo from Leviathan. Still waiting on my box though..

Heres a gunpla tip. Shave the tip of the pegs down to a single, slight 45 degree angle if you have to force it. Itll make it so much easier to assemble and take apart. Dont go overboard though, otherwise you might have to glue it down.

I could have sworn that the spiky bit to fill the unused hole in the base has been around since at least third edition. If it wasn't a Tyranid claw, then it was a spiky tuft of grass or something.

My issue with the push fit models, is when you get a pin that fits into a hole, calm down, the pin is always the exact length and the depth of the hole. If the hole is 5mm deep, the pin is 5mm long, leaving no room for error. If they don't fit right the first time, you fiddle around detaching them, the pin snaps off, and you resort to glue like you should have in the first place.

When I deal with push fit models if I feel a part is to small or likely to break putting it together I just cut off the peg and glue it.

Good alternative head I used for the Captain in terminator armour was a MKIII helm from the older horus heresy boxsets. Have to carve a notch out of the back to the sides a little to fit the details on the terminator. but its a solid fit.

I use my hobby knife to shave the sides of each post to maintain the positioning benefit of the post but improve the fit / reduce gaps. I wish all arms for all figures were pushfit as a standard to make posing with wet glue easier.
