My tactic is for every urge to allow for a one day cooldown for every ~$10 the product costs. If I still want the object after the time has passed, then I'm free to buy it. FOMO is obviously going to mess with this, but stay strong.

I kinda do the same thing, just not so logically - I just wait 2 weeks, and if I still want it, I'll get it. 2 weeks is a lot of time to "sober up" from quick decisions. There are no "but"-s. Just buy or don't. Sooner or later, someone will do a spiritual successor to certain product you crave. Like video games: System shock -> Bioshock -> Prey 2017...

@mk-ultraviolence1760Күн бұрын
3d printing will still cost you an arm for the STLs actually worth printing, then your leg for the resin and other supplies you will need. Then when you have that all together you will still need to devote time to figuring out how not to have regular print failures from the hundreds of things that can go wrong with your print in addition to the time spent getting your models off the build plate, getting rid of the supports, cleaning and curing it.
@TRENCHESandTREADSКүн бұрын
@@mk-ultraviolence1760 This post reads like something someone who hasn't 3d printed would say. 1. STL files are plentiful and often free, even good ones, use Yeggi 2. Resin can be expensive, yes, but proportionate to buying plastic? No 3. Once you know how to print you shouldn't be having print failures all the time. Good printers can print hundreds of times without failure.
@Dedalus94Күн бұрын
@@mk-ultraviolence1760 Expensive? Yes. As expensive as buying from GW? No. And then you can print as many of those files as you'd like at a fraction of the upfront cost. As an example: I paid exactly $33 for all the STLs for my Necron list. They are, as far as I can tell, Identical to the real models. Now, I am printing on a bigger printer, but my cheaper printer which I could use was $200. Resin is $18/kg for the type I'm using. I can probably print most or all of the army with 1 kg of resin, but to be safe, let's call it 2. We're at $269 (nice). PPE are nitrile gloves at $10 and a respirator $30. So $309 all in if I had just started, most of the cost is reusable, thus the next print job cost will be drastically reduced. Now let's look at it if I'd bought it from GW: Void Dragon: Let's get the Christmas box $240, it's just $5 more than I would pay piecemeal and then we have some extra stuff! Silent King: $170 Trazyn the Infinite: $32 Chronomancer: $42 1 unit of 5 Immortals: Let's sub these for what comes in the Christmas box, the extra lychguards or something. 1 unit of 5 Lychguards: Christmas box 2x 3 Scarab Swarms: 1 is in the Christmas box, let's just go without the second because why would you order just 3 and we're just 40 points short so 🤷♂ 1 units of 3 canoptek wraiths: $62 Doomstalker: $52 Canoptek Spyder: $45 Seraptek Heavy Construct: I could not find one for less than $900, as it is not available new. However, it looks like it WAS $291 so let's use that. WG Cost: $934 Assuming you can get the perfect maximum 25% off on all these models from 3rd party retailers or used maybe, let's go with a VERY generous $700. Which means I can do my thing, starting from nothing, twice. Now, my list is crazy, but why wouldn't I have fun with it? But even a more reasonable list is as expensive or worse than my startup costs here.

@@mk-ultraviolence1760 its still cheaper on average and most 3d printers have those issues ironed out now. You comparing old problems to new fleshed out tech. 200 Dollar 3d printers can even pass and get the job done well.

@@mk-ultraviolence1760 I suppose that 3d printing only can affect the price and variety? And that you can still missbehave when it comes to the amount resulting plastic!
@mk-ultraviolence1760Күн бұрын
@@honestminis9530 The problem with 3d printing is you are essentially trading money for time and effort and even then you will still dump a considerable amount of money on it. Why? Well other than the cost of the machine and the resin you have all the supplies you will need to set up an area to print and the necessary safety gear to print in resin. Then you have to find files to print which yeah you can cheap out on and only use free files but I will say 80-90% of them aren't even worth printing. Then 99.9% of the time using free files you will have to support them yourself in addition to making sure your settings are correct for the file you are using. Then after all that work and money spent you will still have print failures and mistakes on the model which means more time and effort.Then you have to clean the models and cure them which means guess what? More time and/or money spent. Then after all is said and done you will look at the first free STL model with a shit ton of pock marks and finally see the actual reality of 3d printing when you buy STL files that are actually worth printing and even then you will still have all the problems listed above. To be clear here, I don't mean to be down on 3d printing with this as I myself do 3d printing and have been getting more into it just don't expect it to be the miracle that ends your GW plastic crack addiction.
