My tactic is for every urge to allow for a one day cooldown for every ~$10 the product costs. If I still want the object after the time has passed, then I'm free to buy it. FOMO is obviously going to mess with this, but stay strong.

@@magnus80a I love simple rules and this sounds like a really great trade-off between complexity and effect! And the radio between the numbers seems very reasonable. I also use a small cooldown period but scaling by price seems wise!

I kinda do the same thing, just not so logically - I just wait 2 weeks, and if I still want it, I'll get it. 2 weeks is a lot of time to "sober up" from quick decisions. There are no "but"-s. Just buy or don't. Sooner or later, someone will do a spiritual successor to certain product you crave. Like video games: System shock -> Bioshock -> Prey 2017...

My wizard is putting stuff I want in a list with a date (usually a month in the future) and allowing the goblin to buy it only past that date. Normally, the goblin will have forgotten by the time the date arrives and moved onto a new shiny thing.

My tactic goes as: -See a GW product that I like -Se how much European Units of money cost vs how many US, and canadian Units of money cost. -Check my savings to see if I have enough Units of money. -Realise that actually I do not own enough Units of money -Proceed to analyse with critical eyes things on the miniature that I wanted that I dislike: To much absurd or unnecessary detail or unpractical detail Aka: Hydraulics on the hydraulics so de Hydraulics have Hydraulics to allow a simple mechanism do something basic. -Then proceed to find something similar on aliexpress toy/model that I could kitbash, and/or troopers, on aliexpress or WG atlantic. -Then buy the stuff - Then do the titanical effort to kitbash 1 thing of the 100 that I bought at cheap price. -set fire to everything. -Process complete now I officially can't buy more minis because my house is on fire and I have to dedicate Units of European money to fix or kitbash the house. -Oh Look a WARLORD TITAN!

The best and easiest tip to not buy more miniatures for Warhammer is going to the official store and see those 55€ they're asking for miniatures older than most players. My god 😑😑😑 PS: Great video by the way. Glad that KZbin decided to show it randomly on my feed 😊

I believe we have different priorities. My greatest spending is not buying stuff from GW, it is buying second hand miniatures and there I mainly hunt for the stuff from the late 90's :) (and there I've found a whole new level of FOMO 😆) I'm very happy that you are happy that you watched my video!

GW helped me a lot with this when the Wizard realized how they regard their customers. Alienation is a pretty good way to avoid spending. 😂 (That said, the Goblin still uses all that discretionary spending, just somewhere else LOL)

3d printing will still cost you an arm for the STLs actually worth printing, then your leg for the resin and other supplies you will need. Then when you have that all together you will still need to devote time to figuring out how not to have regular print failures from the hundreds of things that can go wrong with your print in addition to the time spent getting your models off the build plate, getting rid of the supports, cleaning and curing it.

@@mk-ultraviolence1760 This post reads like something someone who hasn't 3d printed would say. 1. STL files are plentiful and often free, even good ones, use Yeggi 2. Resin can be expensive, yes, but proportionate to buying plastic? No 3. Once you know how to print you shouldn't be having print failures all the time. Good printers can print hundreds of times without failure.
@Dedalus94
@Dedalus94 Күн бұрын
@@mk-ultraviolence1760 Expensive? Yes. As expensive as buying from GW? No. And then you can print as many of those files as you'd like at a fraction of the upfront cost. As an example: I paid exactly $33 for all the STLs for my Necron list. They are, as far as I can tell, Identical to the real models. Now, I am printing on a bigger printer, but my cheaper printer which I could use was $200. Resin is $18/kg for the type I'm using. I can probably print most or all of the army with 1 kg of resin, but to be safe, let's call it 2. We're at $269 (nice). PPE are nitrile gloves at $10 and a respirator $30. So $309 all in if I had just started, most of the cost is reusable, thus the next print job cost will be drastically reduced. Now let's look at it if I'd bought it from GW: Void Dragon: Let's get the Christmas box $240, it's just $5 more than I would pay piecemeal and then we have some extra stuff! Silent King: $170 Trazyn the Infinite: $32 Chronomancer: $42 1 unit of 5 Immortals: Let's sub these for what comes in the Christmas box, the extra lychguards or something. 1 unit of 5 Lychguards: Christmas box 2x 3 Scarab Swarms: 1 is in the Christmas box, let's just go without the second because why would you order just 3 and we're just 40 points short so 🤷‍♂ 1 units of 3 canoptek wraiths: $62 Doomstalker: $52 Canoptek Spyder: $45 Seraptek Heavy Construct: I could not find one for less than $900, as it is not available new. However, it looks like it WAS $291 so let's use that. WG Cost: $934 Assuming you can get the perfect maximum 25% off on all these models from 3rd party retailers or used maybe, let's go with a VERY generous $700. Which means I can do my thing, starting from nothing, twice. Now, my list is crazy, but why wouldn't I have fun with it? But even a more reasonable list is as expensive or worse than my startup costs here.

@@mk-ultraviolence1760 its still cheaper on average and most 3d printers have those issues ironed out now. You comparing old problems to new fleshed out tech. 200 Dollar 3d printers can even pass and get the job done well.

I’ve started making sure I’m well fed before shopping at COSTCO too. If you’re hungry there it’s not just 1€ that you’ll waste. The best option if you walk in hungry is to just get the hotdog and soda set for 1,5€ and you’ll be satiated.

That goblin does like to be in control. It is a good idea to always have a decent think on it as to whether you should buy it or not. The Old World coming out has definitely switched on goblin mode a few times but I haven’t felt too bad about it as I’m painting pretty quickly and therefore don’t have as much of a pile of shame (though there is one)

@mk-ultraviolence1760 Күн бұрын
@@honestminis9530 The problem with 3d printing is you are essentially trading money for time and effort and even then you will still dump a considerable amount of money on it. Why? Well other than the cost of the machine and the resin you have all the supplies you will need to set up an area to print and the necessary safety gear to print in resin. Then you have to find files to print which yeah you can cheap out on and only use free files but I will say 80-90% of them aren't even worth printing. Then 99.9% of the time using free files you will have to support them yourself in addition to making sure your settings are correct for the file you are using. Then after all that work and money spent you will still have print failures and mistakes on the model which means more time and effort.Then you have to clean the models and cure them which means guess what? More time and/or money spent. Then after all is said and done you will look at the first free STL model with a shit ton of pock marks and finally see the actual reality of 3d printing when you buy STL files that are actually worth printing and even then you will still have all the problems listed above. To be clear here, I don't mean to be down on 3d printing with this as I myself do 3d printing and have been getting more into it just don't expect it to be the miracle that ends your GW plastic crack addiction.

@@mk-ultraviolence1760 Thank you for that clarification. Kind of what I expected. I currently have no interest in 3d printing myself. Partly because of the mentioned issues but also that I generally dislike resin miniatures. I have bought two professionally printed ones and even they have been a slight disapointment. But obviously also se the huge potential when you do get it right!
