What was once pure "genius", has now become "maestro", without par. Those who are not musicians, will not understand how incredibly difficult it is to play, and sing, this live. If not, just sit back and enjoy. The musicians among us, will just gaze on in stunned awe.
I didn't get to see them do this in Sydney, because of Stills contracting the flu and not having a decent enough voice. In a way, I'm glad. Woodstock, be damned.

CSN, greatest of all time. I’m 77 this month, Feb 14, 2025. There are none better. I never tire hearing there songs. Crosby’s passing was painful, but we will all follow him. Let’s continue to relish their great music as long as we have hearing ears. Sixty years hasn’t aged their music. It’s forever. RIP David. You will be missed.

I am 74 next month. I listen and I am young again with firm, tanned skin. I’m young again, beautiful and only worry is not to get pregnant by my boyfriend but we’re careful - lol. Now we have a son. Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, you shaped our youth and placed something in our brains that can never be erased. To hear your songs and your incredible harmonies will always ALWAYS be a balm on our souls as we age. I love you.

Exactly and precisely said. I am 75. I saw this and asked myself if I wanted to watch it? After all, I knew it well. But, because a friend posted it on Facebook, I clicked, and am so glad I did. It brought back vividly those years and that sound, which was together for too short a time. Still, they gave us what they did, and it was some of the most woderful music of the era. It captured a time of free love, free spirits, and no cares. A time when most things seemed possible, though there was the backdrop of the every present war, which threatened to upset our lives.

One of my favourite songs of all time. Written by Stephen Stills for Judy Collins, his then girlfriend. She loved the song, but still didn't take him back when he played it for her. This is pure Stills genius. Odd tuning of EEEEBE. Amazing how he can play Within You and Without You by George Harrison in the middle of this while in that tuning. I've seen Nash in concert on his own. A purely amazing show that was too. I miss Crosby, may he rest in peace. I saw Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young twice in concert. Once in Varsity Stadium in downtown Toronto in a pouring rain storm in 1971. I feel privileged to have grown up during those times in music. Peace. Love.

My scatterbrained older sister forgot my 14th birthday back in '71 and rushed around for something to give me. I was not impressed to receive a battered cassette tape, without case, wrapped up in tissue paper, which I'd not heard of: Deja Vu...and then I played it. The best music I've ever listened to, and which I still listen to to this day, along with all the solo material.

@@wilbporterwp It is weird tuning. I learned it last week and EVERY string is E (except the B string!) Once the tuning is finishes, the song is actually very easy to play. I can't imagine any other way of tuning the guitar for that song. It has a sound to it whereby the E strings "drone" throughout the song. Believe it or not, it is very easy to play once you get the basics down.

I am amazed at the voice quality that they all have maintained. Crosby, with the smooth, low harmony, hasn't lost anything, and I can understand that. Nash, always singing the great high part, is almost unbelievable here. It is most difficult, next to impossible, to maintain a range like that while getting on in years. This was a truly awesome performance.

@@jackquarantillo5192 see, I have come to the conclusion that Stills did the highest parts in falsetto back in the day. Nash is on top for 99% of the time, but in certain parts Stills goes on top. The “Friday evening” section on the original seems to me like nash is in the middle. It would make sense that you don’t hear that very top part as Stills probably can’t do the falsetto anymore. Also pretty sure Nash’s voice is a bit auto tuned on this

Vale - David Crosby One of the best & greatest Singer/Musicians has passed away aged 81. Along with his mates Stephen Stills, Graham Nash and Neil Young, Crosby created some of the most iconic late 60's & early 70's music. I know they started in the mid-60's, though to me they epitomise WOODSTOCK. The Vocal harmonies rival anyone else in the music world. Their Guitar work and their sublime Bass lines were ground-breaking and ahead of their time. Even as a very young child I knew their music was very special. RIP Mate, thanks for all the musical joy you brought us.

I was a 19 yr. old at Woodstock, when I first saw these 3 angels . They introduced this song by saying " This is only the second time we've performed together, and we're scared shitless" Here, they introduce it, saying, " we haven't done this song in a very very, long time" ....Both times, they are being so absolutely sincere, and both times, they fall into each others spheres with such an absolutely magical fusion, that you can see their own reaction to the splendor of the oneness that results. Stephen Stills, in spite of being the last holdout to a hard living, hard partying life (which when compared to Dave Crosby really says a lot), carries the lead not only vocally, but as one of the best acoustic style players ever, solo, for most of the song . As another commenter, "Grandpa the Grey" said so well "From the time of primordial ooze, those three voices were destined to harmonize." I pity the ones who, for whatever reason, cannot see the clear magnificence that is manifested here.

And don't lose sight of the fact that this was recorded when these guys weren't kids - Crosby is 71 here, Stills is 67 and Nash is 70 here. I'd like to be able to stand up for 9:42 when I hit 71! [It ain't far away, BTW.]

David Crosby is the middle harmony. He's so good that his voice is the hardest one to hear in the harmony because he ties the voices of Steven Stills and Graham Nash together.

He makes it seem so easy, but it's very difficult. He has said was put on this earth to sing harmony, and he does it beautifully.

Nash and Crosby harmony is insane. Crazy that Nash can still hit those notes, unreal. Fab guitar and singing by Stills to. RIP David
