This one really made me smile, wonderfully produced with the turnstones. Some great tips there and I really wanted a frying pan welding to a ball head, then I remembered I can’t lie down on a beach. Well I can, but I can’t get up again as my walking stick doesn’t give me enough support in the sand. I find the East Yorkshire coast is a very good place for playing with reflections, especially with the sanderlings as they stand out so much. No idea why it seems different round there. If shooting with an incoming tide local knowledge is really use for where the birds congregate. If I’m shooting Morecambe Bay I like the incoming tide as I know where the birds are and then the turn for the curlews and whimbrels.
@PaulMiguelPhotography5 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark. I've been intending to make this video since November. Finally got time and the right conditions to do it. Glad I did, it's one of my favourites! You're right about the incoming tide. The problem here is that there were just so many people and dogs, so next time I might try and go when the tide is further out - then hopefully can find more space to myself..

Maybe you also need a frying pan welded to the end of your walking stick :P

I've been using the frying pan for a few years now, and it works a treat. Add some para-cord to where the handle hole is and you have a strap to carry it round hands free. I also added 3 little rubber pads as feet when shooting on flat hard surfaces, adding further stability, less vibration and minimizes "slippage".

Thank you for sharing this vid. You are so lucky to be able to photograph them with such a short distance! In here, and we do have a large number of coastal birds, they fly away even if someone is at around 120mts distant. My lens is inevitably the big Tamron lens... The video is a great one! But not applyable to every country or circumstance. Funny issue, we call low tide when the sea retires, and high tide when it comes up ! LOL Cheers from Uruguay.

I would do a cast iron pan get one used untreated or put in a self cleaning oven to get all oils off if you're going to glue or weld. the cast iron will provide a very sturdy base. but I would oil or paint it to keep from rusting after you get the configuration you like.

Those birds are cute and rather humorous. Try treating the bottom of that skillet with a bit of PAM cooking spray to make it easier to slide around, lol. It is a clever idea for sure, but what was that gizmo in your hotshoe, some kind of aiming device? I imagine it would be easier with a tilting screen under those circumstances. Thanks for the video Paul.
@PaulMiguelPhotography5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion! I knew.. just knew someone would spot it - you can't do anything on KZbin without someone seeing it! It is nothing to do with taking the pictures - it's actually an attachment that allows me to put my vlogging camera on top of the camera! I didn't need to use it though - but thanks for reminding me to do so!

Hi Paul, I always enjoy your videos they're both informative and inspiring. And yes I was intrigued by the unique gear! as soon as my eyes caught it I was thinking "that looks like a frying pan!" I will have to purchase another ball mount but I've already got the pan this will be very useful in my area It will definitely allow a much lower stealthier position than a shortened tripod.
@PaulMiguelPhotography5 жыл бұрын
Brilliant! I envisage a whole host of people walking to the shoreline with frying pans. Thanks Alvin.
@alvinmorris54045 жыл бұрын
@@PaulMiguelPhotography have you tried it on snow or frozen ground? It's going to be very useful to me because I have a partially fused neck and until now I have been forced to rely on a short tripod since I cannot bend my head back as far. With this I can lay in a low spot or something like the bank of a pond and be able to get shots of the water fowl without exposing myself and I will greatly reduce the chances of spooking them! Thank you 👍

Great video. The music really fits those fast charismatic little birds. @suecollins32465 жыл бұрын
David, can I make a suggestion, I wonder? I have a homemade self-designed carrier to hold my camera on my chest. Works like a bomb. Anyway, I have a clip on it that enables me to carry over my shoulder one of these cute little squash-shut three-legged fishing stools. I can walk miles with this rig and not know it's there. Now, you can sit on it of course but you can also kneel behind it and rest your elbows on it. You're low, but not so low you can't get up easily. The three legs will sink in but not so badly that you can't get up.
@PaulMiguelPhotography5 жыл бұрын
That sounds brilliant!! I have used a similar idea with the folding stool. Great suggestion, thanks Sue.

good idea using a frying pan, the alternative is a rather hefty price of approx £80 for a skimmer. another hate of mine is how companies stick a high price of anything to do with photography, e.g tents are quite cheap, but stick " camo " in front of tent and the price trebles
