I have done a lot of urban wildlife photography so I love this video! Thanks for dedicating your time to show this type of shooting! When people hear about wildlife photography they picture you in the middle of woods and never think about all the opportunities in our cities!

Paul, all my wildlife photography is urban wildlife. In Toronto we have a wonderful system of ravine parks and trails. And being on Lake Ontario we have many aquatic birds and we are on a major migratory flyway. The variety of birdlife and mammals here is remarkable. I cycle our ravine trails stopping off at key locations for photos. I photograph in all four seasons here.

How refreshing paul no fancy locations and still some good results love the cormorant shot and I've often thought of grave yards so a video would be great for some tips 👍

Many thanks. I like to make content that is realistic for most people, where possible. Churchyards can be good.. and usually quiet too!

Wonderful video, Paul! I suspect the wagtails actually are simply grabbing some pebbles to fill their crops, which they use to crush food materials such as seeds.

Super video Paul, it'd be nice to see some photos that you did / didn't get, I struggle to managed my expectations, but suspect you didn't get as many "ok" shots as I'd hope for / think you got... Low light is a pain in winter, but when it's good it's sooo damn good, it just doesn't happen too often between weather and shadows!

I live in Stoke On Trent. it might have a bit of a reputation, but there are so many parks and canals I spend a lot of time within a few miles of my house. My favourite location is an old disused colliery where barn owls nest.

Very enjoyable photo walk! Loved the Goosanders, which we call Common Mergansers here in the US. I live in Oakland, California, where urban wildlife is ever-present. Lake Merritt, in the middle of the city, is the oldest wildlife refuge in the country, home and host for many birds. Our official city bird is the Black-crowned Night Heron. Your capture of the starling with the red sign in the background is stunning.

Thanks for the kind comment! I love the night heron.. have photographed a few times abroad. I've seen them in roosts too.

The urban and suburban open spaces of North Leeds seem to offer more "wildlife" subjects than the countryside to the north of it. I'm sure it's the same for most cities. The countryside can seem quite barren at times unless you are aiming for specific locations and subjects. I've seen the Parakeets on the canal side between Leeds and Bingley

Highly interesting Video! I live in Amsterdam and do photograph birds in the city. My focus is on the centre of the city. The Canals with Ducks and reflections are one subject. I also use large billboards as a background for birds in flight. For Peregrine Falcon I went to the Rijksmuseum. In my view landmark buildings can be a great background. Like you I also go for roosting spots and indeed Starlings are typical city birds!

I like your approach. Sounds great there. I plan to photograph the herons in Amsterdam one day.

Another great video, Paul. I haven’t thought about this type of wildlife photography. Will definitely go out and do some soon. However, on another subject, I haven’t seen anyone explain how to get sharp, brilliant photographs with budget lenses. All good photographers have fast glass, even EF 10 yo 2.8 is thousands of pounds, whereas, RF 100-400 is around £500 new but has f8 on the long end. I tend to use Sigma 150-600 with Canon 1.4x, gives me 840mm reach (£ 600). So, what words of wisdom can you give me, other tan to buy expensive glass. Thank you for the fantastic work you do.

Did the rozzers come and have a chat with you? Everytime I go to Leeds and get my camera out, bloody Rozzers show up! Even got detained once section 50 terror act. As ever a great video and not a million miles from me, all the best.
@PaulMiguelPhotographyСағат бұрын
Rozzers..? I guess that means police, LOL! They actually did that? Unbelievable. I try to not draw attention where I can. Whereabout were you?
@EnidAgnusDeiСағат бұрын
@@PaulMiguelPhotography Yes the police. Still have my stop and search form, CCTV had seen me near the crown court, but I only walked by it, didn't have a camera on me! But been stopped x3 near the armories, honestly, every time I get stopped when I go to Leeds, mush have one of those faces!

@Mupworp20 сағат бұрын

@PaulMiguelPhotography20 сағат бұрын
I wouldn't say I worry about it, but I'll certainly take more care to watch my surroundings and not put gear down etc.
@planestrainswildlife19 сағат бұрын
I have to say that is my biggest concern in urban areas especially if I'm taking pictures and videos, you never know who's desperate enough to try and part your gear from your hands. I have worn my backpack camera bag on my front rather than my back before now and it actually helped me as a kind of bodypod to support the camera and lens. Nice catch with the kingfisher Paul and cracking shot of the gooseander 👍
