I heard this song in 1966 when I was 16 YEARS old.I often listened to the song when driving to the Griffith Park Observatory in LOS Angeles to see the star show It was the best year of my life. Jim Reeves is my favorite singer and as I listen to his songs I remember a time of peace and happiness.

First heard him in 1963 that I remember I was 6 or 7 next year mum said he died I remember it well I said I have to get his songs with my pocket money two years ago I was still saving as I didn't have a record player until I was 9 and I heard him singing distant drums I begged mum to let me go to the TV shop with her I asked to take all my savings and bought it has always been my favourite singer his rich baritone voice as he says every word properly and with thought 64 now I grew up with rolling stones living and playing doors from me my sister dated mick jager for a few months until he got famous. Gentleman Jim Reeves simply the best.

Today exactly 50 years are gone since Jim Reeves tragically died in an airplane accident (July 31st, 1964). After half a century, his velvet bariton voice still lives on in his timeless music. It has become world cultural heritage.

Keep at it. You will be happy and satisfied if you stay with it. My cousin is a session player specializing in steel guitar. When I was a young feller, he and his sister played the 12 string guitar. I had never seen that, but he was a wizard with anything stringed. His name is Tom Mortensen. Heck of a guy. Look him up.

when i listen zis song tears always come from my eyes. I think of my grandpa/grandma. My grandpa who was a fisherman always whistles this song at at 4 am in ze morning while preparing all his belongings in ze year 1966. The first time I heard Gentleman Jim Reeves singing this I was tuned into XERA Del Rio Texas in 1953 (when we could hear the North American AM stations). That would be 65 years ago. I remember it well! I went out and bought the 78 next day.
