Dinky renovation of Single Deck Bus No. 29e. Year of production 1948. Toy model cast.

The Single Deck Bus is a model that was produced in 1948, i.e. 3 years after the end of World War II. The production lasted until 1952. The Dinky bus is a simple model, without windows or interior, but quite well-developed for those times. There were probably 5 pieces inside. Single models had no packaging at all. Now the production of the model, which is a replica of the then bus in single cardboard boxes, has resumed. My bus was complete. However, it did not have tires and had a very badly crushed front fender. I was able to straighten the damage and choose a color that matches the original one. I decided to make a copy of the packaging according to the model of the present replica. I am amazed at the quality of the post war toys... my grandfather said , all the kids were spoiled with great toys in those years because the parents of that generation felt they , OWED it to the kids... such great stuff in that time.

Lucky with the fender straightening - those really old castings can get quite brittle! Good idea with the reinforcement. Nice job and a really great finish considering the model is over 70 years old!

@@PaulRestorer With the old casting I found that heating the damaged area up with a hair dryer on the hot setting made it a like easier. I used my hand as the heat control when holding the model. never had a failed casting.

The bus turned out very nicely, and it is extremely difficult to do a two-tone paint scheme on a small scale model, however carefully you do the masking. I particularly like these naive models because they were the ones that were available during my childhood in the 1950s. Best wishes.

Nice work, try warming the repair area before attempting to manipulate the metal. A hot air gun would be enough. That die-cast material is so brittle.

I follow your restorations with great admiration.All old toys should be sympatheticaly restored. I cannot understand why collectors insist rhat toys should be kept in a tatty condition and shun restorations.After all , vintage cars and buses are restored to their original condition, why should toys not be the same.
